Severe weather warning cancelled for ACT, South Coast

A severe weather warning has been cancelled for the ACT and parts of southeastern New South Wales, after damaging winds were previously forecast for Wednesday morning.

At 4:27am, the Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning for parts of the Illawarra, South Coast, Southern Tablelands and the Snowy Mountains, as well as the territory.

A front moving through the region was expected to bring strong winds as fierce as 90 kilometres an hour.

"Blizzards are possible over the Alpine peaks mainly this morning," the bureau said in a statement at the time.

But, by 10:30am, the bureau had cancelled the warning.

"Winds are expected to remain strong (but not damaging) in parts of the southeast for the remainder of this morning and in the early afternoon, but should gradually ease this afternoon and evening," the bureau later said.

"The immediate threat of severe weather has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary."

Emergency services recommended people should still keep clear of debris, fallen power lines, flood water and creeks as well as storm drains.
