EDDIE & THE HOT RODS: 7 albums @320 kbps

The band were originally formed under the name 'Buckshee' in 1973. They rehearsed in drummer Steve Nicol's garage in Rochford, Essex. Bassist Rob Steel was known by his nickname, 'The Hustler'. They changed their name to Eddie and the Hot Rods after Dave Higgs joined. He was more experienced, and it was his input at this early stage that helped them to gel and get gigs, eventually, in 1975, hitting the London pub rock circuit. They are often considered as one of the many punk rock bands that sprang from that city in the mid 1970s, but in fact saw themselves as more influenced by groups like The Who and The Kinks, and other pub rock acts such as Dr Feelgood or Graham Parker & the Rumour. Their brand of energetic r&b was over-trumped massively by the punk explosion, and they withered away. The repertoire consisted of Chicago style blues, mainstream rock and soul covers, plus tunes in a similar vein written by the band's guitarist, Higgs.
Before rising to semi-stardom in 1977, the Hot Rods underwent several changes in personnel: One of the first members to leave the band was Eddie himself, a dummy that featured prominently in the Hot Rods' early gigs and was discarded as the joke had worn thin. Otherwise, the band consisted of Barrie Masters on vocals, Pete Wall and Dave Higgs on guitar, Rob Steel on bass and Steve Nicol on drums. Ed Hollis, brother of Talk Talk's Mark Hollis became their manager, and the band were signed to Island Records.
By 1976, Lew Lewis (harmonica) and Paul Gray had replaced Wall and Steel. Lewis's tenure in the group lasted for the release of their first two singles before he too left. With this new line-up, the Hot Rods played a set at London's famous Marquee Club - their opening act was a young band named Sex Pistols. During a residency at the club in the summer of 1976 they duelled for alternate weeks with AC/DC, to see who could cram more bodies into the Marquee during one of the hottest summers on record. They first appeared in the UK Singles Chart the end of that year with the "Live at the Marquee" EP and the single "Teenage Depression", an energetic rock'n'roll song.
After the release of the Teenage Depression album, which gave them their first appearance in the UK Albums Chart, they recorded another EP called "Live - At the Sound Of Speed". During the gig from which this EP was recorded, Graeme Douglas (formerly of The Kursaal Flyers) joined the band onstage and jammed along adding extra lead lines. Afterwards his membership of the band was made permanent, and they set about writing and recording for their second album. The live recording of the "Sound of Speed" EP featured Douglas on only one track, he therefore set about recording additional lead guitar overdubs in the studio, though to keep in with the essence of a live release, he was only given one attempt at recording each song. With the addition of Douglas, the band was moved in a more radio-friendly direction. Their biggest hit came with the Douglas/Hollis collaboration "Do Anything You Wanna Do" in the summer of 1977, under their shorter, snappier name, The Rods. This single made the British Top 10 (number 9 in August 1977) and also proved popular with the then predominant punk audience, as did that year's album Life on the Line. Still in 1977, the Hot Rods toured the United States. When it came to recording a follow-up album, the band tried to recapture the success of "Do Anything You Wanna Do", but to no avail. They found themselves sacked by their record company in 1979, and after Fish'n'Chips, another misguided effort for EMI, the Hot Rods disbanded in 1981.
At this point, Gray and Douglas had already left the band, the former joining The Damned. Masters teamed up with The Inmates. Ed Hollis went on to work with some of the best known acts of the punk era including The Damned, Elvis Costello, and Stiff Little Fingers. In the 1990s the 'classic' line-up (Masters, Nichol, Higgs, and Gray) re-grouped to record the album Gasoline Days; plus in 2005 a Masters-led outfit recorded Better Late than Never in preparation for a 30th anniversary tour. The band is currently enjoying renewed popularity throughout Europe with regular tour dates, and has also performed in the U.S. after a 25-year sabbatical.

TEEN IDOLS: Pucker Up @256k

The Teen Idols were a pop punk band based in Nashville, Tennessee.
The band was formed in 1992 and quickly gained local popularity while playing at venues such as Lucy's Record Shop and receiving frequent airplay on Nashville college radio. During the mid-90s, they released several EPs under the local indie label, House O' Pain. In 1996, the Nashville Music Association nominated the band for their Independent Artist of the Year award. A year later, the Teen Idols released their first full-length album under the indie label Honest Don's Hardly Used Recordings. They released two other albums under the Honest Don's label before signing to Fueled by Ramen in early 2003. Around that time, Keith left the band and Kevin (formerly of Detroit-based P.T.'s Revenge) took over the vocals. Shortly thereafter, the band released the album Nothing to Prove in July, 2003, but broke up during the subsequent tour. During their heyday, the Teen Idols headlined many tours in the U.S. and played support with other notable bands such as NOFX, Less Than Jake, and The Queers.
After the breakup of the Teen Idols, Heather, Matt Yonker, and Kevin joined forces with Geis and Gui from Rehasher and briefly toured and recorded as the band Bullets to Broadway. The band released one album, Drink Positive, and supported Less Than Jake on their 2006 European tour. Phillip has done duty with many bands including The Queers and Even in Blackouts. >>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teen_Idols

ROOTS 'N' BOOTS - Malaysian Street-Punk Oi!!

The band's foundation was found way back in 1993,when 5 naive young men had had to agreed that the only way for them to channel their talent and boisterous energy was;MUSIC...going under several names every now and then...the band would play anything, covering mostly from the late 70's and early 80's British punkrock, loads of streetpunk anthem,well-known Oi! numbers and even some few touches on local punk bands songs...at this very particular time, all they did was rehearsing covers and screwing around...no gigs were played at that time, since they're not even bothered to record anything yet...nevertheless the band had come with a few decent own materials...and this situation keep on going strong for the next couple of boring years until it was 1996,when most of the bois quit due to other commitments and left Achmed SodD alone to recruit new members...luckily enough some good mates from local streetpunk band Social Reject,Oi! outfit Fighting '94 and even the now already a legend;A.C.A.B gladly chip in to lend a helping hands & boots...with new spirits and enthusiasm they commit themself to enhances Oi!/streetpunk music to the next or better level...well, at least to themself they tought...by this time around the band had steadily go under the banner of "Roots 'N' Boots" and already start doing small shows here and there...1997,skinhead & punk became national issues and the government would do anyshites to banned anything or even everything that got to do with the cult...be it directly or the other...this is when the band had to go through a long break of hybernation and only shitting around rehearsing and practising own numbers...the band did however recorded 2 songs (Made In Malaysia & We're The Crew) to be featured in one of the earliest M'sian Oi! compilation which is "Oi! It's a Malaysian League" for Strange Culture Records...1998, the band actively start doing shows again...1999, got into a recording deal with Pinn-Up Recs. & start the recording for their debut album which is "Working Class Heroes",it's been released in 2000...from there on, the band start to do small & big shows and gain new fans thru' out the country and recognitions from the worldwide audience...their album even attracts a few European labels and officially DSS Recs. were given the honour to distribute it to the ROTW...2001 & 2002, the band started to work on new songs, which will be featured in their 2nd album and they also did the recording by the end of 2002 up to the 1st halve of 2003..."Young, Loud & Proud" was released later that year and received quite a good feedback and even the bad ones too...now we're workin' so daymn hard for our 3rd Son Of Oi!, maybe we should tease the crowd wif sumthin' erm...cocky?!Hahaha!~

RESISTANCE 77: (2006) Songs For A Nanny State @256K

Still (after all these years!) ranked among the most powerfully iconic bands on the punk circuit; still willing to speak up and out at a time when the very concepts of free speech and thought are being depicted as somehow criminal, Resistance 77's fourth album, Songs for a Nanny State is -- surprise, surprise -- another thunderous blast of energy and noise, shot through with riotous imagination, killer hooks, and the kind of choruses you normally only find on T-shirts and walls. A dozen slabs of defiance seem most concerned with confirming the vitality of the music they love. "True Punk and Oi," "One of the Boys," and "Punk Rock Songs" have an anthemic quality that, every time, speaks for everybody for whom punk itself is now a way of life. How easy it is, after all, to look out at the serried ranks and write them all off as a misguided fashion statement, and how contrarily awkward it becomes when you comprehend that there's an entire culture out there that will never buy into whatever propagandist rubbish is flowing forth from the establishment this month. The "nanny state" itself refers back to one of '80s-era British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's fondest canards, a nightmare society in which the state itself did everything bar wipe your ass for you. (Although you could always hire an independent contractor if you wanted.) That nightmare has since come to pass in more ways than one can even count and, though the dozen songs here only glance towards the resultant beastliness (the anti-rock charity "All for One" comes closest), this album could scarcely have been created without its ghastly input. Punk rock in its purest form, then; folk music for the folks who need it, and a bloody nose for everyone who'd sweep such sensations under the carpet. Resistance 77 continue to resist. ~ Dave Thompson, All Music Guide

SICKO DISCOGRAPHY...@320K

Sicko were an American rock group from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1991. Exceptionally, the three-piece pop punk group maintained a constant membership for every recording as a band. This line-up was Denny (guitar, bass, vocals), Ean (guitar, bass, vocals), and Josh (drums). Although the band wrote and recorded an extensive catalogue of original material throughout the mid-1990s, the group is perhaps best known for its punk-flavored cover of the song "Closer To Fine", originally written and recorded by the folk duo Indigo Girls.
Sicko released four full length albums and five 7" eps as well as a retrospective CD with unreleased and rare material, a released demo and a tour video. They also appeared on approximately fourteen compilations on labels such as Lookout! Records and Liberation Records. They once exchanged covers with cub. The vast majority of their recorded output was recorded by Kurt Bloch of The Fastbacks and released on Seattle-based punk label eMpTy Records. One ep and the retrospective CD were released on Mutant Pop Records. During its heyday - roughly 1993 to 1997 - Sicko actively played in numerous clubs throughout the Seattle area, and played a number of shows to a small but loyal following. A typical Sicko set would last about twenty songs lasting about 45-50 minutes, in a blistering, no-interruptions manner reminiscent of the Ramones or the Fastbacks (whose lo-fi style resembled Sicko, possibly in part due to Kurt Bloch's production input in the studio). Denny and Ean would typically switch places on the bass and guitar duties halfway through the set (and often handing each other their instruments while on stage). Sicko often split the bill with other bands that would eventually go on to achieve more national acclaim, including a show with Harvey Danger in 1994 at the (now defunct) Lake Union Pub, and several shows with the Presidents of the United States of America, most notably at a show at the Capitol Hill club Moe's (now Neumo's) on the same night that the Presidents filmed concert footage for the video of their hit song "Lump". Sicko occasionally received dismissive (and often unfair) comparisons by national critics with Green Day, another punk trio with a more polished and slightly poppier style.

RUNNIN' RIOT: (2000) Reclaim The Streets @256k

Slugmag:

"...Holy shit! This disc pummels me into submission!!
Punk drunk rock from Belfast Ireland, here on American soil to beat the snot out of the pansies like Blink 182. Skinhead (not racist, repeat not ignorant close minded racist), "Oi" punk that is similar to The Sex Pistols, The Clash, layered with The Expoited; a tasty piece of cake. Great songs include 'Alcoholic Hreoes', 'Drunk and Disorderly', 'Rock 'n' Sellout, and 'Right to Fight'. Plus a bonus live gig at the Warzone Centre in Belfast.
Great old school style punk rock for a new generation of clueless punk kids. This disc was so good, that I recommended it to my mom, two weeks later she was strapping up the boots and was stomping around the house in a circle. Breaking furniture, shaking her fist, with a can of PBR in her hand, she had Runnin' Riot cranked and was singing off key very loudly. Hey, if it works for my mom, then how can y'all go wrong? Go order Runnin' Riot and start lacing up the boots for the disorderly conduct that will result from listening to this disc...".

RUNNIN' RIOT: (2001) Monk's Not Dead @256k

Bob's Bordello:
"...The second full-length from these Irish lads comes in swinging with a one-two combination. First up is a fist's worth of five originals. The simple joys of having a band(Cash in Hand), a tribute to a fallen friend(Captain Chaos), & life away from work(The Saturday Ritual). Not just resting on the shoulders of their personal experiences, they also throw down a taste of the songs, and artists that influenced them. There is a rousing, & violent cover of G.G. Allins' - Kill the Police, a skinned up tribute to glam band, Twisted Sister, and one from what is obviously their namesake - Runnin' Riot, by Cock Sparrer. I hope these guys are in for the long haul, because if you like your music straight-forward, these boys will see heavy rotation in many a sound system..."
