Gladiator - OST

This second soundtrack compilation for Ridley Scott's sword and toga epic, Gladiator, hit stores nine months after the movie's initial release. It was timed to capitalize on the film's front-runner status in the 2000 Oscar horse race, but it would be shortsighted to dismiss the disc as a wholly mercenary attempt to milk the Gladiator cash cow. Perhaps such claims would be warranted if Gladiator: More Music From the Motion Picture were what its title implies: a collection of excerpts from the film's original soundtrack that were left off of the first album. The initial album, Gladiator: Music From the Motion Picture, remains more than adequate as a summary of a highly eclectic and effective score which is not only Hans Zimmer's finest composition (thanks in large part to contributions by former Dead Can Dance vocalist Lisa Gerrard) but also one of the most original facets of an otherwise overblown and overrated blockbuster action flick. Thankfully, the second Gladiator CD is not merely an accumulation of leftover scraps of music. Rather, it is a fascinating audio diary, an inside look at the process of composing a film score. Zimmer's liner notes provide detailed accounts of the stories behind each discarded outtake and incomplete draft. One track is a fabulous vodka-inspired late-night jam between Zimmer's synthesizers and strings, Djivan Gasparyan's duduk, and Heitor Periera's Spanish guitar. Another is a faster, African-influenced version of Gerrard's stirring end credit theme, "Now We Are Free," that was abandoned for being too cheerful. It is clear from listening to the CD that these recordings were not rejected because the music was of an inferior quality to the final versions. In fact, some of these pieces are more inventive and listenable than anything on the soundtrack. They were cut simply because they did not meet the requirements of the narrative. Gladiator: More Music From the Motion Picture demonstrates strikingly not only how creative but also how exacting, meticulous, practical, and utilitarian a film composer must be.

Colourbox - Best of 82 / 87

Colourbox were an English electronic musical group on the 4AD record label in the 1980s. They attempted an electronically-tinged reggae and soul influenced pop music, constrained by the technology they had access to at the time. They released a number of records from 1982 until 1987. The band was formed by the brothers Martyn and Steve Young, with guest singers until Lorita Grahame joined as a permanent member in 1983.

The first release - a four track mini-album simply titled "Colourbox" released in 1983 - displayed the band's fledgling experimental sound - with pop tunes fractured and distorted out of shape by all manner of cut-and-paste tomfoolery. After a handful of singles, a full album followed in 1985 - also titled "Colourbox" - which further refined the band's diverse palette, mixing sample-splattered power-punk instrumentals with elegaic piano pieces ("Just Give 'Em Whiskey" and "Sleepwalker" respectively), commercial pop ("The Moon Is Blue", "Suspicion") and more reggae and soul covers (U-Roy's "Say You" and The Supremes' "You Keep Me Hanging On"). It was to remain the band's only proper album.

However, for a brief time Martyn Young's name would still appear as a producer credit on records by acts as diverse as The Christians and fellow label-mates The Wolfgang Press, whilst former singer Lorita Grahame was last seen gracing vocal duties on a record released by short-lived One Little Indian act Hit The Floor (a cover of Edwin Starr's late-70s disco smash "Contact"). Since then, very little has been heard from any of the members from the camp save for a brief return to promotional duties for Martyn Young in 2001 to oversee the release of the rather disappointing and anything-but-fully-representative "The Best Of Colourbox 82-87".

Tanita Tikaram, compositora, artista y cantante inglesa nacida en 1969 en Alemania. Sus influencias son una mezcal entre rock y folk.

Los orígenes de Tanita Tikaram son multirraciales y multiculturales. Su madre es de Malasia y su padre de las Islas Fiji, donde trabajaba de funcionario para el ejército británico. La familia se traslada a Gran Bretaña cuando Tanita tiene 12 años. Desde muy joven, Tanita canta en clubes londinenses hasta que la descubre un responsable de una discográfica que le permitirá grabar un disco individual. Good Tradition sale en 1988 y alcanza inmediatamente un éxito que hace prever una brillante carrera.

El álbum Ancient Heart, escrito y compuesto por Tanita en su totalidad, la lanzó definitivamente al éxito. Se venden más de 4 millones de ejemplares y da a Tanita fama en todo Europa.

Good Tradition get out to the market in 1988 and immediately achieves a success that makes anticipate a shining career.

The album 'Ancient Heart', written and composed entirely by Tanita definitively sent her to success. Were sold more than 4 million units and gives Tanita fame in all Europe.

Aparecieron en la escena punk británica en 1977. En origen, el grupo estaba formado por Richard Butler, Tim Butler (hermano del anterior), Duncan Kilburn (saxofón) y Roger Morris (guitarra). En 1979 se añadirían Vince Ely, a la batería, y John Ashton.

El punk proscribía el rock psicodélico, pero los "Furs", huyendo de las limitaciones, no lo descartaron. El resultado fue una música que se acercaba más al pop que al punk, una combinación de guitarras canturreantes y saxofón, con una intensa y equilibrada sección rítmica, y el complemento de la singular voz, unas veces cálida y otras desgarrada, del líder de la banda, cantante y responsable de las letras, Richard Butler. Su música fue calificada por un avispado crítico inglés como "beautiful chaos" ('hermoso caos').

En su primer disco se observa grandemente influido por David Bowie.

La banda se separó a principios de los 90. Años más tarde los hermanos Butler fundaron el grupo Love Spit Love.

The punk prohibited the psychedelic rock, but " Furs" , fleeing from the limitations, they did not discard it. The result was a music that approached more to pop than to punk, a combination of guitars and sax, with an intense and balanced rythmical section, and the complement of a singular voice, sometimes warm and others heartbraking, of the leader of the band, singer and person in charge of the letters, Richard Butler. His music was described by English critical like " beautiful chaos".

In its first production it is observed greatly influenced by David Bowie.

Years later the Butler brothers founded the group Love Spit Love.

In The Nursery - Engel

In The Nursery o ITN es un grupo formado en Sheffield, Inglaterra en 1981 por los gemelos Klive y Nigel Humberstone y el guitarrista Antony Bennett. Son conocidos por ser musicalizadores de películas de corte no comercial (incluyendo películas mudas) y programas de tv.

El trío originalmente se desenvolvío en la escena industrial inglesa, su primera producción de seis tracks 'When Cherished Dreams Come True' fue realizada en 1983. Le siguieron 'The witness (to a scream)' y 'Sonority'.

Tras salir Bennett de la banda, se acercó la vocalista multilingue -Dolores Marguerite- la cual le dió un giro a su música, convirtiéndola en aportes de atmósferas teatrales sobre la parte industrial, su debút fué con el EP 'Trinity', a la cual se le agregaron narraciones en francés.

Para la siguient producción se incluyeron como base de la banda a Dolores y al percusionista llamado 'Q', y produjeron el denominado 'Stormhorse', soundtrack para una película imaginaria la cual les proporcionó la línea para futuras grabaciones. Después vino en 1988 el disco 'Köda' con la cual completaron su transición hacia la instrumentación clásica y emplearon secuenciadores por primera vez.

Posteriormente grabaron en 2001 con la compañía -Third mind Records- el disco que les presentamos en esta ocasión en Fields of Haze, 'Engel'.

After Bennett leaving the band, the multilingual singer - Dolores Marguerite- join to the band, she gave a turn to its music, advancing toward to create atmospheres and contributions on the industrial part, her debut was with the EP ' Trinity' , to which French narrations were added.

For the next production Dolores was accepted as a part of the band and invited to join the percusionist ' Q' , and made the denominated ' Stormhorse' , soundtrack for an imaginary film which provided the line to them for future recordings. Later the disc came in 1988 ' Köda' with which they completed his transition towards the classic instrumentation and used sequencers for the first time.

Later they recorded in 2001 with 'Third Mind Records' the disc that we proudly presents FOH, ' Engel'.

Dead Can Dance 1981 - 1998



Caja de 4 discos del super grupo 'Dead Can Dance'. Aunque anteriormente ya había subido algo de ellos, ésta es la caja que contiene la mayoría de sus trabajos a lo largo de su carrera.
La mayoría de los tracks fueron tomados de discos editados, pero la caja contiene una serie de rarezas, como es el caso de la canción 'Frontier' y 'The Protagonist' realizado originalment en la compilación 'Lonely is an Eyesore'. 'Labour of love', 'Ocean', 'Orion', y 'Threshold' , fueron grabados en el show de John Peel, en 1983. En 1984, nuevamente en otra Peel session 'Carnival of Light'. 'Sloth (radio)', fue grabado para una estación de radio por Brendan Perry en su álbum 'Eye of the Hunter'.


Box of 4 discs of the super group ' Dead Can Dance'. Although previously I already upload something of them, this is the box that contains the majority of its works throughout its career. The majority of tracks was taken from published discs, but the box contains peculiarities, as in the case of the song 'Frontier' and ' The Protagonist' realised in the compilation ' Lonely is an Eyesore'. Danse Society - Seduction The Society Collection

Danse Society fue un grupo de post punk formado en Barnsley, Inglaterra en 1981. Dirigido por Steve Rawlings (voz), Paul Nash (guitarra), Lundon Scarfe (teclados), Tim Wright (bajo) y Paul Gilmartin (batería).

En 1980 grabaron su primera producción de 12", 'Clock' en su propia compañía de discos -Society Records-. Su disco más conocido fué 'Heaven is waiting' realizado en diciembre de 1983 por -Arista Records-, en el cuál hacen un cover de la canción de los Rolling Stones -2000 light years from home- .

En esa época alternaron con grupos como Public Image Ltd., Joy Division y Cabaret Voltaire.

En 1987 el grupo se separa, tras 3 LP's en su haber.

Esta producción recopila los temas más conocidos del grupo.

Aunque no tiene la gran producción, es una buen disco para aquellos que quieren escuchar otra faceta del punk rock.

Garden Of Delight - Nuctemeron 1991/1997

Garden Of Delight es un grupo de gothic rock alemán, influenciado sobre manera por grupos como Fields of the Nephilim y Sisters of Mercy, se ha movido en ciclos desde su inicio a principios de los 90, como la banda que mejor recogió las enseñanzas de los grupos fundadores del estilo, y así crear uno propio al que se han mantenido fieles desde entonces. En el primer ciclo (91-97) se plantearon un objetivo muy concreto, editar 7 albumes en 7 años, cada uno con 7 canciones. Esto que parecería un poco raro, tiene su fundamientación en la ideología del grupo, el cual retoma ideas de H.P. Lovecraft y Aliester Crowley.

Ocultismo y esoterismo es el estandarte que mueven las letras y sonidos de GOD, siempre con una voz muy particular de su vocalista Artaud y la predominancia de sintetizadores y riffs muy bien aplicados.

Este trabajo conjunta precisamente esa primera etapa, donde el grupo escaló de trabajos medianamente aceptables ("ENKI's temple", "Epitaph" y "Sargonid Seal") a obras maestras (como "Necromanteion IV", "Symbol and vision", "Scheoul" y "Paradise").

Aunque están muy clavados en su onda necromántica y eso llegara a dejar fuera mucha audiencia, es un muy buen grupo y lo puedes disfrutar sin problemas si te adentras en su música, y dejas de lado sus concepciones.

Este álbum recopila los mejores tracks de esta primera etapa.
