Spawned by the fertile L.A. alt metal scene, Orgy adds catchy melodic hooks to the familiar mix of crushingly loud riffs and electronic-tinged production. Formed in late 1997, Orgy consists of vocalist Jay Gordon, guitarist Ryan Shuck, guitar synthesist Amir Derakh, bassist Paige Haley, and drummer Bobby Hewitt. Shuck had collaborated on material with Korn lead singer Jonathan Davis, while Derakh had produced several records for already-signed L.A. bands, so it was no surprise that Orgy became the first band signed to Korn's Elementree subsidiary of Reprise Records. Their debut album, Candyass, was released in 1998. Their cover of New Order's "Blue Monday" and second single, "Stitches," instantly pushed them into the mainstream. Dates supporting Love and Rockets and shows with Korn's Family Values Tour only fueled their popularity into the next year. Their experimental sci-fi sophomore effort Vapor Transmission, which hit number 16 on Billboard's Top 200, followed in 2000. Two years later, Jay Gordon and his Dad, Lou Gordon founded their own label, D1 Music. Founding drummer Bobby Hewitt also left the band for a three-month stint in Snake River Conspiracy although he participated in the recording sessions for Orgy's third album. Punk Statik Paranoia was planned for a February 2004 release.

It was only a matter of time before someone added obvious hooks and electronic smarts to the post-industrial roar of alt-metal. That's exactly what Orgy does on its debut album, Candyass. It's hard to call this stuff industrial, since its sensibilities are directly out of metal -- hard-hitting riffs, big hooks, and tight songwriting -- but since Orgy is living in the electronica age, everything is given a computerized surface, complete with processed guitars and thundering digital bits. It's a now sound, no two ways about -- it's of the moment, totally 1998, and that's why it's hard to actually judge its merits. Candyass has the intoxicating rush of a new sound, but it's hard not to feel like all of its pleasures are on the surface. Still, you take pleasures where you can get them, and Orgy offers more than expected on this promising debut.

Tom Waits - Big Time

Big Time is an 18-track live album running nearly 68 minutes, its material drawn mostly from Tom Waits' trio of recent studio albums, Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs, and Franks Wild Years. (One track, "Falling Down," is a previously unissued studio recording. The performance of "Strange Weather" marks Waits' first recording of a song he and his wife, Kathleen Brennan, wrote for Marianne Faithfull.) It's challenging music, made somewhat more accessible in a live context. Waits' performances tended to be somewhat over the top on the studio versions of these songs, but before a live audience his theatrics seem more appropriate, and he even includes a mini-set of piano ballads. Still, it takes him until the seventh tune, "Way Down in the Hole," to bring the audience to life, and he rarely speaks, in marked contrast to the earlier live-in-the-studio album Nighthawks at the Diner. But Big Time makes a useful sampler of Waits' later work that might enable a listener to determine whether to invest in the studio recordings.

Banda alemana formada en 1989. En 1992, el primer álbum de Oomph! fue lanzado. El álbum contiene letras en alemán y en inglés, lo cuál se convirtió en una característica de Oomph!.

En 1993, la banda lanzó el sencillo "Breathtaker, el cuál contenía más guitarras que los lanzamientos anteriores, fue un adelanto preciso de su próximo álbum. En el segundo álbum de Oomph!, "Sperm", lanzado en 1994 las guitarras son mucho más rudas, y los sonidos electrónicos están más presentes. La banda también trató de incluir nuevos ritmos.

También en 1994, el primer vídeo de Oomph! fue lanzado. Se llamó "Sex" y no convenció mucho a MTV. "Defekt" became one of the darkest and aggressive album that the band has sent to the date. The subject of the album was the destroyed and defective souls and their thoughts.

In 1996 the band played in more important festivales like " With Full Force" or " Wacken Open Air" and also they sent its fourth album " Wunschkind" , which refers on the child abuse and it does not admit any commitment. The songs are written very experimentally with several rates in a song, but " Wunschkind" it is also a typical album of Oomph! , containing the well-known style of guitars and electronics and letters in English and German.

Mephisto Walz - Immersion

Mephisto Walz es un grupo de rock gótico formado en 1985, han realizado varios LP's a lo largo de su carrera tanto en Cleoptra Records como en otras compañías disqueras por lo que poseen una vasta discografía. Muchos de ellos han recibido buenas críticas de parte de la comunidad gótica y se mantienen como uno de los grupos fundadores del movimiento.

La banda fue formada por Barry Galvin en 1985, como consecuencia de su salida de la influyente banda de gótico Christian Death. Barry se rodeó de buenos músicos como soporte de la banda y al final invitó a participar en el proyecto a la vocalista Chistiana, la cual ayudó a darle al grupo un sonido gótico único y a la vez clásico.

La banda desarrolló un estilo atmosférico y melodioso, acompañado de voces etéreas y guitarras distorcionadas, el cual le dió una característica diferente dentro del género. Hoy día, gracias a su capacidad de amalgamar todos esos elementos y a la inspiración que han dado a otros grupos de rock gótico contemporáneo, es lo que les ha dado la categoría de -leyenda-.



Mephisto Walz are a gothic rock group formed in 1985. They have an accomplished discography behind them, having released many full-length albums over the course of their career, through Cleopatra Records and other labels. Many of their albums have received high acclaim from the gothic community and stand as early monuments to the movement.

Mephisto Walz was formed by Barry Galvin, in 1985, following his departure from the influential gothic group, Christian Death. Barry gathered an impressive line-up and later added Christiana on vocals, helping to mold a unique and classic goth sound.

The band's brooding atmospheres, melodic hooks, ethereal voices, washy guitars, and distinct production distinguished Mephisto Walz as a prominent and evolving act within the genre. Today, the amalgamation of these elements are what have established Mephisto Walz as a legendary band for their contributions to the death rock genre and as an inspiration for many other contemporary gothic rock artists.

Grupo conformado por los productores Volker Lutz y Thorsten Brenda en 1992. Después de grabar su álbum debut 'Human Refuse', el dúo editó con la compañía alemana Hyperium dicho disco en 1995 y lo volvió a reposicionar en el gusto de la audiencia. Posteriormente grabaron 'Morbid Mind', para 1997 grabaron el disco 'XTC implant' e 'Illusions' en 1988.

Muy buen disco, combinación de sonidos electrónicos con beat.

Thomas Alan Waits, nació en Pomona, California en diciembre de 1949; pianista, cantante, compositor y actor estadounidense, famoso por sus canciones de tono áspero, inspiradas en escritores como Charles Bukowski y otros de la generación Beat, en especial Jack Kerouac.

En 1967 comenzó a trabajar en los cabarés de Los Ángeles, ambiente que le influyó mucho para las canciones de su primer disco, Closing Time (1973), aunque este álbum se vio eclipsado por The Eagles y Tim Buckley, pero fue con el álbum Heart of Saturday Night (1974) el que dio a conocer su personal estilo. Más tarde en 1975 con el disco en directo Nighthawks at the Diner combina canciones muy personales (entre ellas Better off without a wife) con entretenidos monólogos introductorios.

Tras Small Change (1976), sus siguientes discos no consiguieron situarse en las listas de éxitos. En esos años interpretó pequeños papeles en películas como La cocina del infierno (1978) o Corazonada (1981, de Francis Ford Coppola), para la que también compuso la música.

Volvió a las listas de ventas en la década de 1980 con Swordfishtrombones (1983), Rain Dogs (1985) y Frank’s Wild Years (1987), discos en los que confluyeron una gran variedad de estilos desde el blues hasta el tango, que dieron a sus canciones una atmósfera especial que le aseguró el éxito de ventas y la aceptación del gran público. También participó en películas como Bajo el peso de la ley (1986, de Jim Jarmusch), Drácula (1992, de Coppola) y Vidas cruzadas (1993, de Robert Altman) con papeles de más importancia que en sus anteriores incursiones en el cine. Asimismo, compuso la música de la película Noche en la Tierra (1991, de Jim Jarmusch) y al año siguiente, graba Bone Machine (1992). Un año más tarde colaboró con William S. Burroughts en la ópera cómica de carácter siniestro The Black Rider.

En esta ocasión te presentamos la primera producción del grupo, Urthona, realizada en 1992 con la disquera alemana Hyperium. Canciones melodiosas, voces muy estilizadas que nos llevan de la mano a una región de parajes efímeros y poco transitados.

Disfruten de éste excelente disco, un must have en cualquier repertorio gótico.

The Hope Blister fué una banda ambient fundada por el creador y productor de la disquera inglesa 4AD Ivo Watts-Russell, la cual marcó un hito en cuanto a la música independiente de los 80's se refiere.

Ahí grabaron varios de los grupos que años después serían influencia de muchos, como Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Cindy Talk, The Birthday Party, Pixies y un largo número de etcéteras.

El debut de The Hope Blister en 1998, fué con el disco -....Smiles OK- incluyendo 8 canciones de varios artistas, como Brian Eno ("Spider and I"), John Cale ("Hanky Panky Nohow"), David Sylvian ("Let The Happiness In"), Heidi Berry ("Only Human") y Mojave 3's Neil Halstead ("Dagger").

Para todos los que gustan de un disco realmente experimental y con buena producción, este disco debe estar en tu colección.
