Megabats constitute the suborder Megachiroptera, and its only family Pteropodidae of the order Chiroptera (bats). They are also called fruit bats, Old World fruit bats, or, especially the genera Acerodon and Pteropus, flying foxes. Fruit bats are restricted to the Old World in a tropical and subtropical distribution, ranging no further than the eastern Mediterranean and South Asia, and are absent from northwest Africa and southwest Australia. Compared to insectivorous bats, fruit bats are relatively large and, with some exceptions, do not navigate by echolocation. They are herbivores and rely on their keen senses of sight and smell to locate food.
Most fruit bats are larger than insectivorous bats or Microchiroptera, however there are a number of small fruit bats also. The smallest species is 6 cm (2.4 in) long and thus smaller than some microbats, for example, the Mauritian tomb bat. The largest attain a wingspan of 1.7 m (5.6 ft), weighing in at up to 1.6 kg (3.5 lb). Most fruit bats have large eyes, allowing them to orient themselves visually in twilight and inside caves and forests.
In botany, a fruit is the seed-bearing structure in angiosperms formed from the ovary after flowering.
Fruits are the means by which angiosperms disseminate seeds. Edible fruits, in particular, have propagated with the movements of humans and animals in a symbiotic relationship as a means for seed dispersal and nutrition; in fact, humans and many animals have become dependent on fruits as a source of food. Accordingly, fruits account for a substantial fraction of the world's agricultural output, and some (such as the apple and the pomegranate) have acquired extensive cultural and symbolic meanings.
In common language usage, "fruit" normally means the fleshy seed-associated structures of a plant that are sweet or sour, and edible in the raw state, such as apples, bananas, grapes, lemons, oranges, and strawberries. On the other hand, in botanical usage, "fruit" includes many structures that are not commonly called "fruits", such as bean pods, corn kernels, tomatoes, and wheat grains. The section of a fungus that produces spores is also called a fruiting body.
Bats are mammals of the order Chiroptera (/kaɪˈrɒptərə/; from the Greek χείρ - cheir, "hand" and πτερόν - pteron, "wing") whose forelimbs form webbed wings, making them the only mammals naturally capable of true and sustained flight. By contrast, other mammals said to fly, such as flying squirrels, gliding possums, and colugos, can only glide for short distances. Bats do not flap their entire forelimbs, as birds do, but instead flap their spread-out digits, which are very long and covered with a thin membrane or patagium.
Bats are the second largest order of mammals (after the rodents), representing about 20% of all classified mammal species worldwide, with about 1,240 bat species divided into two suborders: the less specialized and largely fruit-eating megabats, or flying foxes, and the highly specialized and echolocating microbats. About 70% of bat species are insectivores. Most of the rest are frugivores, or fruit eaters. A few species, such as the fish-eating bat, feed from animals other than insects, with the vampire bats being hematophagous, or feeding on blood.

My sister is a volunteer for Wildlife care and rescue in Australia, she was looking after 3 baby fruit bats in December 2007. They've since been released to a fruit bat shelter and then probably released into the wild.
With their giant wingspans, flying foxes are the world's biggest bats. Australia's black flying foxes are a prime example, with wingspans up to six feet (two meters)!

This is Jeddah. He loves to be tickled and scratched. Look at that blissful face. Jeddah is a Grey-Headed Flying-Fox. I usually clip my videos quite short when it's all one behaviour being shown, but this bliss went on and on and I just couldn't bring myself to deprive you of any of the lengthy joy. I particularly loved the yawny and sniffy bits about half way through. And I love the curl of the tongue as he yawns. This bat was not releasable due to injuries. He is in care with a vaccinated and licensed bat carer. This bat is not a pet. He's a baby hand raised for release. He is used to being handled. He actively solicits attention and cuddles. There have been suggestions that this bat is terrified and the squeaks are not cute. This bat is in bliss and is able to get away from th...

Check us out on Instagram! @PythonPaige It's feeding time for Batty and Scar, two Straw-Colored Fruit Bats! These bats are native to Africa and are commonly found in forest and savanna habitats. Despite their ability to fly, bats are mammals and not birds as some people might think. They fly from tree to tree, chewing bark and eating fruits and leaves. After the fruit is consumed, the seeds pass through the bat's digestive system and is expelled as they travel, thereby dispersing seeds in new territories. This makes fruit bats an important species for conserving and rejuvenating forest ecosystems!

The Indian flying fox (Pteropus giganteus), also known as the greater Indian fruit bat, is a species of flying fox in the family Pteropodidae. It is nocturnal and feeds mainly on ripe fruits, such as mangoes and bananas, and nectar. Distribution and habitat The Indian flying fox lives in tropical forests and swamps, near bodies of water. They also live on coastal islands, and it is theorized that ancestors migrated here long ago and found a liking to it, or were blown there and quickly forged a lifestyle. It is found in Bangladesh, China, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. It is classified as Least concern due to its wide range and apparent adaptability. Feeding :- The Indian flying fox is frugivorous or nectarivorous, i.e., they eat fruits or lick nectar from flowers. At...

Well, The Steam version of sora has been released! And it does have an updated script, and widescreen support! This port also makes some sections of the game harder, like the second StarBreaker fight and EX Stage. As before, I love the game, but I suck. I had an abyssmal Stage 3 run, but I still managed to pull through and 1cc the game afterwards. I'm still using Bullet and Bazooka as my weapons. I hope you enjoy this look at the updated port... ALSO, GO BUY IT ON STEAM, RIGHT NOW!!!
Secrets and Mysteries of Bats - Nature Documentary This 48-minute documentary explores the world of bats and the scientists who study them -- including the late Donald Griffin, a Harvard zoologist who was the first to describe their echolocation ability in the 1940s. Using 3-D graphics to recreate the bats' acoustic vision and shooting with infra-red and high-speed cameras, this film offers an exhilarating "bats-eye" journey into the night.
