Any similarity between 'Standard Socialist Pamphlet' and, ahem, any items appearing on your blog Darren are entirely coincidental. I was ranting way too much to have managed to be that clever about it (much to my own disappointment). I'm with Ian Bone on this to a degree: if I had to vote for anyone it would be your mob. You haven't got a candidate in Altrincham & Sale West. Not that they would have a cat in hell's chance - it's been Tory since 1945 :(
'fraid we're not standing in Altrincham and Sale West.
I think the closest the SPGB ever got to contesting a Parliamentary seat in the North West was back in the late 80s/early 90s when some members in Manchester wanted to contest the Eccles seat (Nothing to do with the fact that the sitting MP at the time, Joan Lestor, was an ex-member of the SPGB from back in the 50s.)
They contested a few local elections and did a lot of work in the area but it never came to be.
What might have been.
PS -
You should check out the election blog the SPGB is doing that covers their contesting of the parliamentary seat of Vauxhall in South London:
Vaux Populi
There's some good stuff posted there.
The SPGB contested the Littleborough and Saddleworth parliamentary by-election in July 1995.
I think the SPGB also contested local elections in Burnley in 1905 or 1906.
Christ, I'd actually totally forgotten about the Littleborough and Saddleworth parliamentary by-election,
I wonder why?
