The End: Punk Friction blogs out today.

So now its time to say this is it for Punk Friction. Its lasted alot longer than I thought it would and for me,its been enjoyable and very educational. That is down to you lot (the commenters) and for that I'd like to thank you for your input and your knowledge, opinions, funny comments and making this blog what it was (yes.....shite! :)

Now the good people of rapidshare will be deleting links on here soon (11 days actually because I'm not going to pay them anymore dosh) Any inactive links over the 50 gig limit that I'm well over, they will delete so if you want anything from this blog then grab it now (check all the links are working first) And if you've got a blog yourself and you want to chuck anything from here on it,then feel free and do it (some of you already did this right from the start anyway :)

Now please do not ask me to re-up anything on here. This blog is now dead. The lights may be on but there is nobody home! If you need to get hold of me I'll be pottering away down on my football blog http://goalfriction.blogspot.com/ talking bollocks as usual no doubt and doing alot less than I was here. Fellow bloggers, you will still be seeing me I'm afraid via the comments on your sites and if there's anything you want that you think I might be able to help you with, then give us a shout.

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to visit and comment. I love you all (well almost all) and its been a great pleasure.

Take care everyone xxxx

Devo - Live (1996)

Devo forged a singular musical path through the 80s with a predilection for segueing avant-garde ideals into infectious pop melodies. Although their brush with mainstream chart success was unfortunately brief the band gained a huge cult following and were rightly revered as innovators in their field. In 1996 the by-now defunct band reconvened for a concert at Irvine Meadows in California much to the delight of their Devo-ted fanbase. Working their way through some classic material (including Whip It Uncontrollable Urge and Girl U Want among others) the band performed with their usual visual charisma and panache sporting their trademark jumpsuits and robotic dance moves. This release includes the concert in its entirety illustrating the timeless cult wonder of this oddball band.

Devo: Live opens with a short montage of Devo videos before plunging into a rare live performance from 1996. The lively set features 11 favorites from a Lollapalooza engagement--opening for Metallica, no less--at Irvine Meadows. The former "spud boys" of the 1970s and 1980s, now spud men, are as energetic as ever and the synchronized dancing for "Satisfaction" and "Uncontrollable Urge" is a treat. Something about Devo in broad daylight seems strange, but the band doesn't let the sun--or lack of background visuals--slow them down. The focus is on the music, with occasional shots of the audience, a foray into the crowd for a "Jocko Homo" sing-along, and a costume change from jumpsuits to shorts and T-shirts (white leg alert!). Though slightly less essential than the video compilation The Complete Truth About De-Evolution, Devo: Live is a great companion piece for the dedicated Devo devotee. 54 minutes long and 520mb. use HJ-Split to join all the downloaded files together http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/

Ed Alleyne-Johnson - Reflections (2006)

Alot of you would already be aware of Ed especially if like me,you love New Model Army. Ed played and toured with them for a good while and his violin is prominent on many NMA songs particulary the amazing Green & Grey and Vagabonds.

Never mind New Model Army,Ed Alleyne-Johnson an artist in his own right - an amazing one as it happens. Probably the most talented busker in the country as well. Check him out on youtube and his site and invest in some of Ed's own stuff like the superb Ultraviolet CD http://www.muntfish.com/alleyne-johnson/ And if you happen to live anywear in the north of England and come across Ed busking, purchase some CD's off him and chuck him a few quid. Such talent deserves it.

Here we have the 1996 Reflections CD (only on 128 bitrate.....don't complain, buy your own!) which features 9 classic songs all done in Ed's own amazing electric violin style. It really is superb stuff and this man is a genius. Its certainly made me see the electric violin in a new light.

Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness (1995)

To me this is my very favourite non punk related album of all time. A double cd 28 track masterpiece. I cannot listen to one single track without listening to all 28. I just love it. I'm not saying you will as with the Pumpkins you either like or dislike - there's no inbetween with them it seems. Some of its manic, some mellow, some happy, some sad but all of it outstanding to me. I was in a very dark place when this album was released - a place I stayed for some time too due to a number of family related deaths and a relationship breakup. Major depression! This album helped me more than any person did and that's just one of the reasons I adore it. Music is my therapy. I don't need a reason to upload this album but for me this blog is not complete without this masterpiece.

Houston....We have a problem!

Rapidshare are a bunch of c***s. I am a fully paid up (until Feb 2011) Premium Account Holder and with the amount of large files I upload,I've obviously got a lot (well everything) stored on their hosting thingy. Well these fuckers have now changed the goalposts for the likes of myself and they have a new system - see here if you can fathom it out http://www.rapidshare.com/news.html . Basically rather than paying for a time period with these wankers which I have done well in advance, they are going on 1) how much is stored on the server (what I have on their server will cost me more than I have paid unless they delete a shit-load of files) and....this is the bit I really don't like 2) They are limiting what people can download from here a day......well unless I pay more that is.

They have changed the goal-posts as far as I am concerned and I am not prepared to pay these tossers another penny. Neither am I prepared to continually re-upload files that they have deleted because I have gone over their new made-up hosting limit. Remember,I re-upped every bloody single on here recently too.

My advice people - If you want anything from this site is take it now before it gets deleted by the people I've paid (in advance) in good faith.

There are a few more posts to go before I stop blogging here but that is what I will be doing I'm afraid. I'm not gone yet but I will be and that is a certainty although I will leave this page open just in case the pricks leave anything for you to download :)

I might start a football blog instead :) Who knows but until then.......happy downloading and I'll be around tomorrow with something else for you to grab before it's too late!

The Lurkers - Tour Edition (1995)

Burning Spear - Rockpalast Hamburg Germany 25-01-81

Just for a pleasant change, some classic Reggae for you from one of Jamaica's very finest. Burning Spear have been recording some the world's best roots reggae since 1973 and are still going strong to this very day. Unfortunately this isn't the whole gig, only what was shown on the TV but its still 28 minutes and 40 seconds of pure relaxing joy especially the intro where Winston Rodney introduces the band one by one and the tune builds so brilliantly. So laid back,it would make you fall over if you were stood up watching it. 274mb in total. Join files with HJ-Split http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/

Germany vs England

As usual the media over here are going mental with the build up for this game. Strangly,England are slight favourite's to win the game and everyone is on a wave of optimism. Yes,even it comes down to penalties the 3 Lions will still roar on to glory!

Its all bollocks of course. Its the Germans isn't it. I am mentally prepared for disappointment. I am expecting us to go out. Anything else is a massive bonus.

My prediction

Germany 1 England 1 extra time and you-know-who to win on penalties

PROVE ME WRONG ENGLAND!

Edit: Oh well, same old England. Well done Germany, you deserved the victory :(

Generation X on Top Of The Pops

Some Generation X for you from Top Of The Pops. Its a shame video recorders were not around when all the good punk stuff was around but thanks to UK Gold and the TOTP2 shows, alot of the vintage footage reappeared. Its a great shame they have to ruin most of the footage with all that stupid writing but beggars can't be choosers I suppose. All in one file you have Your Generation,Wild Youth,Ready Steady Go,2 performances of King Rocker and Valley Of The Dolls. Alas no Friday's Angel's though. 14 minutes long and 134mb.

Just a word on last night - well there was no Lurkers as mentioned below but a good night all round. I didn't bother watching Pineapple UK - too busy drinking and yapping outside. The Bus Station Loonies were as mad as ever but it was a great set. Theres a new Loonies album out in September too. As for Vice Squad, well I was very impressed. Beki looked stunning and I managed to have a good yap to her (and a couple of hugs and kisses :) Not many there and the ones that did bother didn't seem up for it but the longer the gig went on,the better it got. And I've got a raging hangover for my trouble too!

Tracks

1) Your Generation
2) Wild Youth
3) Ready Steady Go
4) King Rocker (1st appearance)
5) King Rocker (2nd appearance)
6) Valley Of The Dolls
