Dante Basco

Dante R. Basco (born August 29, 1975) is an American actor, voice actor, and dancer. He is best known for his role as Rufio in the 1991 live-action film Hook. He is also known for voicing Zuko in the Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Jake Long from the Disney series American Dragon: Jake Long.

Life and career

Dante Basco is a Filipino American born in Pittsburg, California and raised in Cerritos and Paramount, California. He has four siblings, including actor Dion Basco. In his early years, he was part of the Streat Freaks breakdancing crew. When he got into acting, he started taking on minor roles in television. He later appeared in his most famous role as the charismatic red-stripe-haired leader Rufio of the Lost Boys in Steven Spielberg's 1991 film Hook with Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman. Basco chose to characterize the role with some of the more aggressive alpha male traits of teenage boys so as to maximize the tension with Williams' Pan character. Many of Rufio's lines were improvised by Basco who was happy to go head on with Robin Williams, who was often popularly cited as the king of improvisation. A punk band is later named after this character. He attended Orange County High School of the Arts in the Music and Theatre Conservatory and graduated in 1993.

Lion's Den (mixed martial arts)

The Lion's Den is a mixed martial arts team and training facility that was based out of Lodi, California and San Diego, California but has recently moved its headquarters to Reno, Nevada. The team was founded in the early 1990s by UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock, and was the most dominant fight camp in the early UFC. It featured fighters such as Frank Shamrock, Guy Mezger, Vernon "Tiger" White, Jerry Bohlander, Tra Telligman, Pete Williams, and Mikey Burnett. The Lion's Den now features many new training facilities, including Lion's Den Arizona, Lion's Den Connecticut, and Lion's Den Reno.

Establishment

The team was founded out of necessity, as the then-new sport of mixed martial arts began to take off in the early 1990s. Shamrock, who had fought at UFC 1, had trouble finding adequate sparring partners to prepare for fights. Shamrock attracted the attention of American fighters Vernon White and Guy Mezger early on, and formed the first ever mixed martial arts team in the USA.

Lion's Den (2008 film)

Lion's Den (Spanish: Leonera) is a 2008 Argentine drama film directed, co-written, co-produced and co-edited by Pablo Trapero. Addressing motherhood within the prison system, it stars Martina Gusmán, Elli Medeiros and Rodrigo Santoro.

It was Argentina's official submission for the 2009 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Lion's Den (1988 film)

Lion's Den is a 1988 short film directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men) and editor/composer John Ottman. It marks Singer's first film as a director. The film is about five men who meet up at their old hang-out spot after finishing their first semester of college. The film is 25 minutes in length. Ethan Hawke, who had known Bryan Singer as a child in New Jersey, agreed to star in it at the same time he was filming Dad with Jack Lemmon. As well as co-directing, John Ottman. also edited the film.
