About the pyramids :
The Great Pyramid of Giza (also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops) is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis bordering what is now El Giza, Egypt. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain largely intact. Egyptologists believe that the pyramid was built as a tomb for fourth dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops in Greek) over a 10 to 20-year period concluding around 2560 BCE. Initially at 146.5 metres (481 feet), the Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. Originally, the Great Pyramid was covered by casing stones that formed a smooth outer surface; what is seen today is the underlying core structure. Some of the casing stones that once covered the structure can still be seen around the base. There have been varying scientific and alternative theories about the Great Pyramid's construction techniques. Most accepted construction hypotheses are based on the idea that it was built by moving huge stones from a quarry and dragging and lifting them into place.
There are three known chambers inside the Great Pyramid. The lowest chamber is cut into the bedrock upon which the pyramid was built and was unfinished. The so-called Queen's Chamber and King's Chamber are higher up within the pyramid structure. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only pyramid in Egypt known to contain both ascending and descending passages. The main part of the Giza complex is a setting of buildings that included two mortuary temples in honor of Khufu (one close to the pyramid and one near the Nile), three smaller pyramids for Khufu's wives, an even smaller "satellite" pyramid, a raised causeway connecting the two temples, and small mastaba tombs surrounding the pyramid for nobles.
It is believed the pyramid was built as a tomb for fourth dynasty Egyptian pharaoh Khufu and was constructed over a 20 year period. Khufu's vizier, Hemon, or Hemiunu, is believed by some to be the architect of the Great Pyramid. It is thought that, at construction, the Great Pyramid was originally 280 Egyptian cubits tall, 146.5 metres (480.6 ft) but with erosion and absence of its pyramidion, its present height is 138.8 metres (455.4 ft). Each base side was 440 cubits, 230.4 metres (755.9 ft) long. The mass of the pyramid is estimated at 5.9 million tonnes. The volume, including an internal hillock, is roughly 2,500,000 cubic metres. Based on these estimates, building this in 20 years would involve installing approximately 800 tonnes of stone every day. Similarly, since it consists of an estimated 2.3 million blocks, completing the building in 20 years would involve moving an average of more than 12 of the blocks into place each hour, day and night. The first precision measurements of the pyramid were made by Egyptologist Sir Flinders Petrie in 1880--82 and published as The Pyramids and Temples of Gizeh. Almost all reports are based on his measurements. Many of the casing stones and inner chamber blocks of the Great Pyramid were fit together with extremely high precision. Based on measurements taken on the north eastern casing stones, the mean opening of the joints is only 0.5 millimetres wide (1/50th of an inch).

Giza (/ˈɡiːzə/; sometimes spelt Gizah or Jizah; Coptic: ⲅⲓⲍⲁ Giza; Egyptian Arabic: الجيزة el-Gīza), is the third-largest city in Egypt. It is located on the west bank of the Nile, some 20 km (12.43 mi) southwest of central Cairo. Along with Cairo Governorate, Shubra El-Kheima, Helwan, 6th October City and Obour, the five form Greater Cairo metropolis. The city of Giza is the capital of the Giza Governorate, and is located near the northeast border of this governorate in coordinates. It is located right on the banks of the River Nile. The city's population was 2,681,863 in the 2006 national census, while the governorate had 6,272,571 at the same census. Its large population made it the world's second largest suburb in 2006, tied with Incheon, South Korea and Quezon City, Philippines, second only to Yokohama, Japan.

The Great Pyramid of Giza (also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops) is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis bordering what is now El Giza, Egypt. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain largely intact. Egyptologists believe that the pyramid was built as a tomb for fourth dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops in Greek) over a 10 to 20-year period concluding around 2560 BCE. Initially at 146.5 metres (481 feet), the Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. Originally, the Great Pyramid was covered by casing stones that formed a smooth outer surface; what is seen today is the underlying core structure. Some of the casing stones that once covered the structure can still be seen around the base. There have been varying scientific and alternative theories about the Great Pyramid's construction techniques. Most accepted construction hypotheses are based on the idea that it was built by moving huge stones from a quarry and dragging and lifting them into place.
There are three known chambers inside the Great Pyramid. The lowest chamber is cut into the bedrock upon which the pyramid was built and was unfinished. The so-called Queen's Chamber and King's Chamber are higher up within the pyramid structure. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only pyramid in Egypt known to contain both ascending and descending passages. The main part of the Giza complex is a setting of buildings that included two mortuary temples in honor of Khufu (one close to the pyramid and one near the Nile), three smaller pyramids for Khufu's wives, an even smaller "satellite" pyramid, a raised causeway connecting the two temples, and small mastaba tombs surrounding the pyramid for nobles.
It is believed the pyramid was built as a tomb for fourth dynasty Egyptian pharaoh Khufu and was constructed over a 20 year period. Khufu's vizier, Hemon, or Hemiunu, is believed by some to be the architect of the Great Pyramid. It is thought that, at construction, the Great Pyramid was originally 280 Egyptian cubits tall, 146.5 metres (480.6 ft) but with erosion and absence of its pyramidion, its present height is 138.8 metres (455.4 ft). Each base side was 440 cubits, 230.4 metres (755.9 ft) long. The mass of the pyramid is estimated at 5.9 million tonnes. The volume, including an internal hillock, is roughly 2,500,000 cubic metres. Based on these estimates, building this in 20 years would involve installing approximately 800 tonnes of stone every day. Similarly, since it consists of an estimated 2.3 million blocks, completing the building in 20 years would involve moving an average of more than 12 of the blocks into place each hour, day and night. The first precision measurements of the pyramid were made by Egyptologist Sir Flinders Petrie in 1880--82 and published as The Pyramids and Temples of Gizeh. Almost all reports are based on his measurements. Many of the casing stones and inner chamber blocks of the Great Pyramid were fit together with extremely high precision. Based on measurements taken on the north eastern casing stones, the mean opening of the joints is only 0.5 millimetres wide (1/50th of an inch).

We then made a trip to a bedoun tent in the middle of nowhere, we saw african dancers, a belly dancer and had a bbq, then it was back onto the quads for a drive through the desert in the dark to where we started off. Our next trip was to Cairo. We had to travel by road due to funds. 7 hours there and 7 hours back... you have to be patient, put it that way, but it was totally worth it. HEY EVERYBODY! Whoa I cannot believe I went to egypt. Welcome to part 1 of my Egypt Vlog. This was such an amazing trip, and so different for me. Not your average slaycation. I had an amazing time and met some amazing people. I saw the Great Pyramids of Giza in the Sahara Desert, went to the Cairo Museum, The Mohammed Ali Mosque, the Coptic church and even went to some of the pyramids and Tombs. IT WAS INSANE. How do you guys think the pyramids were built? It was crazy to see how in tune and intelligent our ancient ancestors were. It has always been a mystery, and it was cool to see all of these fascinating ancient buildings up close in real life. The people in Egypt are so friendly, once you say hello! I definitely stood out and got stared at a lot. That happens everywhere but especially here. I felt totally safe everywhere I went with my guide and had an amazing time!

The Great Pyramid of Giza (also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops) is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis bordering what is now El Giza, Egypt. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain largely intact.
Based on a mark in an interior chamber naming the work gang and a reference to fourth dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu, Egyptologists believe that the pyramid was built as a tomb over a 10 to 20-year period concluding around 2560 BC. Initially at 146.5 metres (481 feet), the Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. Originally, the Great Pyramid was covered by casing stones that formed a smooth outer surface; what is seen today is the underlying core structure. Some of the casing stones that once covered the structure can still be seen around the base. There have been varying scientific and alternative theories about the Great Pyramid construction techniques. Most accepted construction hypotheses are based on the idea that it was built by moving huge stones from a quarry and dragging and lifting them into place.
There are three known chambers inside the Great Pyramid. The lowest chamber is cut into the bedrock upon which the pyramid was built and was unfinished. The so-called Queen's Chamber and King's Chamber are higher up within the pyramid structure. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only pyramid in Egypt known to contain both ascending and descending passages. The main part of the Giza complex is a setting of buildings that included two mortuary temples in honour of Khufu (one close to the pyramid and one near the Nile), three smaller pyramids for Khufu's wives, an even smaller "satellite" pyramid, a raised causeway connecting the two temples, and small mastaba tombs surrounding the pyramid for nobles.

The vast, isolated country of Egypt in the North Eastern corner of African is central to studies of the world’s oldest civilisations. Traveller Megan McCormick begins her journey in the sprawling city of Cairo where the most impressive monuments and fascinating sights and relics can be discovered in the old city.
The Bazaar of Khan al-Khalili is a huge market, which has been open for business since the middle ages. Megan learns about herbal medicine from a “doctor’s” clinic and sees craftsmen in the workshops at the bazaar. From here she pays a visit to the mosque at Ibn Tulun; although the site has been Islamic since the mosque was built in the 9th century AD, according to legend this was the spot where Noah’s Arc came to rest and where Moses confronted Pharaoh’s magicians.
No one comes to Cairo without seeing it’s most famous landmark, the Great Pyramids at Giza, just outside the city. They were built as the tombs of three Pharaohs, the first in a string of pyramids running all the way down the Nile to the Sudanese border. Evidence suggests that the first pyramid took hundreds of thousands of workers thirty years to construct.
Egypt was one of the earliest places where Christianity took hold and the monastery at St Antony’s, three hours to the south east of Cairo, was reputedly the very first monastery. St Antony lived as a hermit in a nearby cave for twenty years. Father Lazarus, a former university lecturer who emulates St Antony’s way of life, tells Megan why he chose to live on this mountain saturated with prayer.
En route to Siwa in Egypt’s Western Desert Megan stops at the war cemetery at El Alamein, commemorating the soldiers who fought in World War Two. Tens of thousands of young men on both sides died in the Battle of El Alamein. When she arrives in the remote oasis town of Siwa, close to the Lybian border, Megan is invited to a Siwan stag celebration. The laid-back town is famous for its dates and olives and the town centre is dominated by the crumbling remains of the 13th century fortress of Shali.
From Siwa Megan embarks on a five day desert trek to Luxor. On the way she pays a visit to the oasis town of Bahariyya, where every traveller is greeted personally by the mayor. She joins a family celebrating sebuwa, a ceremony held a week after the birth of a new baby. The following day the group heads for the historic ruins of Bagawat. Here there are 263 Coptic tombs dating back 1800 years, some of which have biblical murals painted on the interior.
Megan is relieved to arrive in Luxor at last. The West Bank of Luxor is known as Monument Valley and it’s here that you’ll find the famous Valley of the Kings. The government has invested heavily in security at major sites since the Shi’ite massacre of fifty people at Luxor in November 1997 which cast a cloud over the Egyptian tourist trade. Nevertheless Megan finds an Egyptologist to guide her around the working archaeological site and to teach her about burial practice. The next morning she has an early a breathtaking view of the entire site – by hot-air balloon.
For the final leg of her trip Megan takes a short flight from Aswan to Abu Simbel, the gateway to southern Egypt. It’s here that Ramses had his sun temple built over three thousand years ago. Four massive statues over sixty five feet tall impress upon the traveller the ruler’s strength and divinity. The temple was moved block by block to a man made mountain sixty five metres higher than its original site so as to prevent submersion by the newly created Lake Nasser.

Just made this little video to show our recent trip to Egypt. (august 2010). We done the 'Ultimate desert experience' which included flying through the scorching desert on quad bikes to be met by lots of camels. Then we went on some camels for a trek through the sands. We then made a trip to a bedoun tent in the middle of nowhere, we saw african dancers, a belly dancer and had a bbq, then it was back onto the quads for a drive through the desert in the dark to where we started off.
Our next trip was to Cairo. We had to travel by road due to funds. 7 hours there and 7 hours back... you have to be patient, put it that way, but it was totally worth it. When the Pyramids of Giza come into view. wow. we spent about and hour and a half walking around the pyramids taking in the views. There are a lot of beggars and camel riders going around, so you get hassled by them quite a lot. We then drove down to see the mighty Sphinx. Loved it. It was so hot, the heat was unbearable, so we didn't spend as much time there, as we were slowly dying. We then made a trip to TGI FRIDAYS where we had lunch on the nile.
After lunch we drove down to the Egyptian Museum. It's like walking into an airport, you need to get scanned and searched before entering. We had a guide who took us through everything and taught us all about ancient egypt. We saw all of Tutankhamuns artifacts. so amazing. The feeling you get when you see all this stuff is incredible.

Then you will visit the Temple of Ain El Muftella which was once the main water source of the old capital of the oasis. In the evening, you will be transferred to the White Desert for camping and overnight. ( Breakfast – Lunch - Dinner )
DAY 10 | Bahariya Oasis - Cairo
Enjoy your Breakfast in the White Desert and then you will drive to see the Crystal Mountain and the volcanic rocks and petrified wood in the Valley of Agabat. Then drive onto the Black Desert to visit the Valley of El Haize with its wonderful hot spring. Later on, you will be transferred by 4X4 car back to Cairo; then you will be transferred back to Cairo. Check in the hotel and overnight. ( Breakfast )
DAY 11 | Final Departure

At the foot of the Pyramids, lies the Sphinx, which was discovered in 1912. Continue your tour visiting Memphis, Egypt's first Capital until the end of the Kingdom. Close to Memphis, we drive to Sakkara, the City of the dead with the famous step Pyramid of Djosser. Return back to Cairo to Station for your Sleeper train to Aswan. Dinner and overnight on board train. ( Breakfast – Dinner )
DAY 3 | Arrive Aswan - Abu Simbel
Breakfast on board train Upon your arrival to Aswan station you will be met by our representative then you will transfer to the hotel to check in, then transfer to Abu Simbel by an air-conditioned van. Upon arrival you will visit the Great temple hewn in rock with the four colossal seated status of the king in front of the entrance. After your tour you will be transferred back to your hotel, Overnight in Aswan. ( Breakfast )
DAY 4 | High Dam - Temple of Philae - Train to Luxor
Breakfast at the Hotel, later meet with your tour guide at the lobby of the hotel to start your tour by visiting the High Dam which was built during the reign of the president Gamal Abd El Nasser in 1960 A.D and he built this dam to save the country from the dangerous of the inundation and the temple of Philae this temple built in the Ptolemaic period.
