The Sound or The Sounds may refer to:
The 1975 are a British alternative rock band formed in Manchester. The group consists of Matthew Healy (vocals, guitar), Adam Hann (guitar), George Daniel (drums, backing vocals) and Ross MacDonald (bass).
They have released four EPs, while their self-titled debut album was released on 2 September 2013 through Dirty Hit/Polydor. The album debuted at number 1 in the UK Albums Chart on 8 September 2013. The band has toured internationally.
Matthew Healy (b. 8 April 1989), the son of actors Denise Welch and Tim Healy, grew up in Newcastle and Manchester. He met Ross MacDonald, Adam Hann and George Daniel at Wilmslow High School. In Wilmslow, Cheshire, south of Manchester, as teenagers and began to play music in 2002. The band formed when the local council worker organised a number of gigs for teenagers. Healy found Hann who "came up to [him] and said he wanted to play one of these shows." The band began by playing a number of covers until they "eventually wrote a song," according to Healy. "We started from then and we've been making music together since we were about 15." After Hann invited the members to form a band, they passed their early days covering punk songs in a local club. Healy was originally the drummer but took over vocals after the previous singer left to start another band. George Daniel was recruited as the new drummer to complete the final line-up.
From the Lions Mouth [sic] is the second studio album by English post-punk band The Sound, released in November 1981 on record label Korova. Following the release of their previous album Jeopardy, keyboardist Belinda "Bi" Marshall left the group and was replaced by Colvin "Max" Mayers. For their new album, The Sound worked with producer Hugh Jones, as well as co-producing the album themselves. The album's sound was more polished than previous efforts.
Like Jeopardy, From the Lions Mouth was critically acclaimed but failed to capture the attention of the public, with the band's fanbase limited to a cult following.
The album cover artwork was taken from the 1872 painting Daniel in the Lions Den [sic] by Briton Rivière.
NME compared the album's bleak nature to Joy Division's Closer. Despite their being posited as a gloomy band, AllMusic wrote "snake-charming opener 'Winning' is like a dash of cold water in the faces of all the bands that were wallowing and withering away at the weeping well [...] The Sound were not mopes. They had their problems with life, but rather than just vent or escape from them, they confront them and ask questions and attempt to sort it all out."
In physics, sound is a vibration that propagates as a typically audible mechanical wave of pressure and displacement, through a medium such as air or water. In physiology and psychology, sound is the reception of such waves and their perception by the brain.
Acoustics is the interdisciplinary science that deals with the study of mechanical waves in gases, liquids, and solids including vibration, sound, ultrasound, and infrasound. A scientist who works in the field of acoustics is an acoustician, while someone working in the field of acoustical engineering may be called an acoustical engineer. An audio engineer, on the other hand is concerned with the recording, manipulation, mixing, and reproduction of sound.
Applications of acoustics are found in almost all aspects of modern society, subdisciplines include aeroacoustics, audio signal processing, architectural acoustics, bioacoustics, electro-acoustics, environmental noise, musical acoustics, noise control, psychoacoustics, speech, ultrasound, underwater acoustics, and vibration.
Heads and Hearts is the fourth studio album by English post-punk band The Sound, recorded in late 1984 and released in February 1985 by record label Statik.
Three singles were released from the album: "One Thousand Reasons", "Temperature Drop" and "Under You".
Heads and Hearts was recorded in November 1984 at Townhouse Studios in London.
Andy Kellman of AllMusic opined that the album saw the group "riding the wave of optimism—or maybe it would be better to say enthusiasm or vigor—that shot through them as they found themselves revitalized after parting ways with a major label", citing the album's "sweepingly hopeful sensibility", despite calling the album's first track "one of The Sound's weariest, most exasperated-with-the-rigors-of-existence songs in their quiver".
The first single from the album was "One Thousand Reasons", released in 1984.
Heads and Hearts was released in 1985 by Statik Records. Two more singles followed, "Temperature Drop" and "Under You".

Why Christopher Nolan is obsessed with Shepard tones. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk is a nerve-wracking movie. Three separate storylines tell the tale of the famed World War II evacuation in a intense two hours of film. A lot of that feeling has to do with how the film's score uses Shepard tones — layered sound waves that simulate a constant ascent in tone — to create a sensation of building tension. They're a personal favorite trick of Nolan's: he's based sound effects and entire soundtracks with other composers on the auditory illusion. In Dunkirk, composer Hans Zimmer crafted his soundtrack around the effect — and it's an auditory masterpiece. We'll watch the snow drift down tonight
Beneath the hand of Midwest lights
We'll watch the snow drift down tonight
The sound, the music, it's Christmastime
I won't forget the moment
You looked at me and said
"in years when we get older
Will you be someone colder?
No one could love so deeply
As I feel you love me now
We built a life from weakness
And joy welled up from sadness
Our love could not burn brighter
A furnace in our chests
Will you be someday colder?
Love can't be more than this"
