Miike Snow

Miike Snow (pronounced mɑik sno) is a Swedish indie pop band formed in 2007. The band consists of producing team Bloodshy & Avant and singer Andrew Wyatt. The band is often represented by a silhouette image of a jackalope.

History

Early years

Miike Snow was formed in 2007 in Stockholm, Sweden. Band members Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg were childhood friends who spent time playing in bands and working on various projects in studios throughout the city of Gothenburg. Karlsson was a former member of the Swedish hip-hop band Goldmine, who toured with The Fugees. After separate moves to Stockholm, they reunited in 2000.

Karlsson and Winnberg collaborated under the moniker Bloodshy & Avant and enjoyed a significant amount of success as producers and songwriters. They have worked with artists such as Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Kelis, Sky Ferreira, and won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for Spears's track "Toxic".

In 2004, while working on writing a pop album for Britney Spears, Karlsson and Winnberg met the third band member, American songwriter Andrew Wyatt, who had previously attended music school and studied classical and jazz music, via a "music business guy"; Wyatt adds that "I was in Sweden visiting, and someone told me that I should hook up with these two guys. Actually, it turns out I'd met Christian in the studio maybe a year before, but we only actually recently remembered that".

Snow

Snow is precipitation in the form of flakes of crystalline water ice that falls from clouds.

Since snow is composed of small ice particles, it is a granular material. It has an open and therefore soft, white, and fluffy structure, unless subjected to external pressure. Snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Types that fall in the form of a ball due to melting and refreezing, rather than a flake, are hail, ice pellets or snow grains.

The process of precipitating snow is called snowfall. Snowfall tends to form within regions of upward movement of air around a type of low-pressure system known as an extratropical cyclone. Snow can fall poleward of these systems' associated warm fronts and within their comma head precipitation patterns (called such due to the comma-like shape of the cloud and precipitation pattern around the poleward and west sides of extratropical cyclones). Where relatively warm water bodies are present, for example because of water evaporation from lakes, lake-effect snowfall becomes a concern downwind of the warm lakes within the cold cyclonic flow around the backside of extratropical cyclones. Lake-effect snowfall can be heavy locally. Thundersnow is possible within a cyclone's comma head and within lake effect precipitation bands. In mountainous areas, heavy snow is possible where upslope flow is maximized within windward sides of the terrain at elevation, if the atmosphere is cold enough. Snowfall amount and its related liquid equivalent precipitation amount are measured using a variety of different rain gauges.

Google Play

Google Play or Google Play Store, and originally the Android Market, is a digital distribution platform operated by Google. It serves as the official app store for the Android operating system, allowing users to browse and download applications developed with the Android SDK and published through Google. Google Play also serves as a digital media store, offering music, magazines, books, movies, and television programs. It previously offered Google hardware devices for purchase until the introduction of a separate online hardware retailer, Google Store, on March 11, 2015.

Applications are available through Google Play either free of charge or at a cost. They can be downloaded directly to an Android or Google TV device through the Play Store mobile app, or by deploying the application to a device from the Google Play website. Many applications can be targeted to specific users based on a particular hardware attribute of their device, such as a motion sensor (for motion-dependent games) or a front-facing camera (for online video calling).

Downtown Records

Downtown Records is an American independent record label based in New York, New York with offices in Los Angeles. Owned and operated by Josh Deutsch and Terence Lam, the current roster includes Chet Faker, Cold War Kids, Miike Snow, White Denim, Electric Guest, YACHT, Goldroom and Autre Ne Veut among others.

History

The label was co-founded by Josh Deutsch and Terence Lam in 2006 and grew to become Downtown Music with publishing, licensing, music services and Songtrust. In 2013 Downtown Records was purchased outright by the its original co-founders and now operates fully independent. The label's music is distributed by Sony Music's RED Distribution and Cooperative Music.

In addition to the sister label Mercer Street Records, Downtown has label partnerships with Dim Mak Records, Fool's Gold Records and Mad Decent.

Downtown Records also operates Downtown Events – a festival and concert promotion company that produces The Downtown Music Festival.

Paddling Out

"Paddling Out" is a song performed by Swedish indie pop band Miike Snow from its second studio album Happy to You (2012). The house song was released on 23 January 2012 as the album's lead single. It impacted alternative radio in the United States on 27 March 2012.

Critical reception

Evan Sawdey of PopMatters named "Paddling Out" the best track on Happy to You, calling it "absolutely jaw-dropping". He wrote, "Weird vocal snippets and other effects are spliced in for good measure, but what we're left with is one of the best dance tracks that's not being played right now."Consequence of Sound writer Chris Coplan wrote that the song "keeps in line with [the band's] back catalog and simultaneously stands as some of their more joyous work to date". Alibhe Malone of NME called it "by far the easiest link back to the trio's earlier work".

Music video

The music video for "Paddling Out" was directed by Andreas Nilsson. The clip features a man who awakens on the floor of his house, but he is actually aboard an alien ship where he is given plastic surgery to be transformed into the "perfect specimen" called Jean Noel Mustonen. Hating his new appearance, the man "dances his sadness away". The ship then crashes to Earth.
