Marion Ohio flooding 6-5-17. We just had a big thunder storm with heavy rain come through.
This is a video shot by drone above the town of Marion, Ohio during the summer of 2015. Marion is a city in and the county seat of Marion County, Ohio, United States. The municipality is located in north-central Ohio, approximately 50 miles north of Columbus.
The population was 36,837 at the 2010 census. According to the US Census 2008 estimate Ohio's Columbus–Marion–Chillicothe Combined Statistical Area has 2,002,604 people. Marion is the county's largest city and the center of the Marion Micropolitan Statistical Area (as defined by the United States Census Bureau in 2003). President Warren G. Harding, a former owner of the Marion Star, was a resident of Marion for much of his adult life.

Marion Ohio. Another case where losing the anchors isn't the problem with the mall. The interior stores are leaving in droves, however. Every time I visit this mall, there's a new labelscar where a store once stood.
I believe this mall was built around 1965-1970, when Marion still had enough people to support a mall. As far as I know, it was originally anchored by Sears, JCPenney, and Elder Beerman. JCPenney pulled out in 2002.
The following factors have probably contributed to Southland Mall's demise: Poor freeway access. To get to it from the nearest freeway (US 23) you either have to drive six miles south of Marion to Bethlehem Road, and find your way to State Route 423, then drive four or five miles back into Marion, or you have to fight Marion traffic crossing town on State Route 95 or 309 to get to State Route 423 (Marion's street system is also one of the WORST mazes of one-way streets and continuous-flow ramps in the country.) One has to question the management's competence when much of the mall smells like mold, in some areas it's worse than Southtown Mall in Fort Wayne! Marion has been shrinking in population steadily for the last 30 years. There are really no other sizable cities nearby to support the mall. Shoppers in Delaware, Ohio (the next county south of Marion) are far too trendy to shop here, and they are closer to Columbus than they are to Marion anyway. Old Navy has pulled out of the mall completely. And they didn't build a replacement store. The mall is clearly hurt by Meijer and by Wal-Mart Supercenter, both of which are within a quarter mile of US 23. Few of the chain stores have modern logos - as if they don't want to invest the money on a mall they're probably going to pull out of soon. Waldenbooks, usually one of the last stores to leave a mall in Ohio, still has an old logo from the 1980's, before they changed it.
Steve and Barry's recently folded and Sears may survive for a while with Elder Beerman, but who knows? But I would say the rest of the mall is likely to be shuttered, or at least completely barren, in the next two years.

Motown had one, so did Stax. Three soul-deep acts and one smoking hot band to back them up. The triple-header of R&B;: the soul revue. Once a mainstay of theaters, gymnasiums and VFW halls everywhere, the soul revue ultimately vanished in the late seventies as recorded sound pushed live performance out of the limelight and onto car stereos and refrigerator-sized boom boxes. The performers returned to their day jobs and the world was the poorer for it.
That is, until April 4th, 2009, when your Numero Group mounted the first Eccentric Soul Revue, packing Chicagos Park West Theater with soul-hungry acolytes, satisfying them and then some with the real thing: a 17-piece band backing The Notations, Renaldo Domino, The Final Solution, Nate Evans, and Syl Johnson, putting on a show that combined 70s slick with revival-meeting fervor.
It was a magical evening, as the past lived and breathed and got on down, right here in the present. Those in attendance went home that night knowing theyd seen something that just wasnt done anymore. And wanting more. If you live in Columbus, Ohio, New York, Brooklyn, or Washington D.C., the wait and the want is over. The Numero Group is taking this show on the road.

Ohio

Willis Thomas (born 1937) is an American former professional basketball player.
A 6'2" guard from Tennessee State University, Thomas played in the American Basketball Association from 1967 to 1968 as a member of the Denver Rockets and Anaheim Amigos. He scored 555 points in 62 games.

Hank Willis Thomas and Terence Nance Artists Statement “For our film, we traveled to the woods in Maine to put ourselves in a serene environment that would communicate a sense of peacefulness to the viewer. We used the natural elements of the forest (trees, rocks, earth, water and light) to articulate the harmony of the landscape, and the relationship of the earth to the human body as the sustainer of life. The male characters represent the body in conflict, divided against itself, in what appears to be an unsuccessful attempt to overpower the landscape with brute force. The female characters are the custodians of the forest, observing the males in their struggles, and ultimately relinquishing them from their torment. Peace.” Biographies Hank Willis Thomas (born USA, 1976) currently lives and works in New York, USA. He received a BFA from the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University (New York, USA) in 1988 and an MFA and MA from California College of the Arts (San Francisco, USA) in 2004. Willis Thomas was a Fellow at the Ellen Stone Belic Institute for the Study of Women & Gender in the Arts & Media, Columbia College Chicago (Chicago, USA) in 2012 and was a part of The Fellows Program, W. E. B. DuBois Institute for African and African American Research, Harvard University (Cambridge, USA) in 2011. In 2007 he was awarded a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris, France). Motown had one, so did Stax. Three soul-deep acts and one smoking hot band to back them up. The triple-header of R&B;: the soul revue. Once a mainstay of theaters, gymnasiums and VFW halls everywhere, the soul revue ultimately vanished in the late seventies as recorded sound pushed live performance out of the limelight and onto car stereos and refrigerator-sized boom boxes. The performers returned to their day jobs and the world was the poorer for it. Hank Willis Thomas and Terence Nance Artists Statement “For our film, we traveled to the woods in Maine to put ourselves in a serene environment that would communicate a sense of peacefulness to the viewer. We used the natural elements of the forest (trees, rocks, earth, water and light) to articulate the harmony of the landscape, and the relationship of the earth to the human body as the sustainer of life. The male characters represent the body in conflict, divided against itself, in what appears to be an unsuccessful attempt to overpower the landscape with brute force. The female characters are the custodians of the forest, observing the males in their struggles, and ultimately relinquishing them from their torment. Marion Ohio. Another case where losing the anchors isn't the problem with the mall. The interior stores are leaving in droves, however. Every time I visit this mall, there's a new labelscar where a store once stood.
I believe this mall was built around 1965-1970, when Marion still had enough people to support a mall. As far as I know, it was originally anchored by Sears, JCPenney, and Elder Beerman. JCPenney pulled out in 2002.
The following factors have probably contributed to Southland Mall's demise: Poor freeway access. To get to it from the nearest freeway (US 23) you either have to drive six miles south of Marion to Bethlehem Road, and find your way to State Route 423, then drive four or five miles back into Marion, or you have to fight Marion traffic crossing town on State Route 95 or 309 to get to State Route 423 (Marion's street system is also one of the WORST mazes of one-way streets and continuous-flow ramps in the country.) One has to question the management's competence when much of the mall smells like mold, in some areas it's worse than Southtown Mall in Fort Wayne! Marion has been shrinking in population steadily for the last 30 years. There are really no other sizable cities nearby to support the mall. Shoppers in Delaware, Ohio (the next county south of Marion) are far too trendy to shop here, and they are closer to Columbus than they are to Marion anyway. Old Navy has pulled out of the mall completely. And they didn't build a replacement store. The mall is clearly hurt by Meijer and by Wal-Mart Supercenter, both of which are within a quarter mile of US 23. Few of the chain stores have modern logos - as if they don't want to invest the money on a mall they're probably going to pull out of soon. Waldenbooks, usually one of the last stores to leave a mall in Ohio, still has an old logo from the 1980's, before they changed it.
Steve and Barry's recently folded and Sears may survive for a while with Elder Beerman, but who knows? But I would say the rest of the mall is likely to be shuttered, or at least completely barren, in the next two years.

Once a mainstay of theaters, gymnasiums and VFW halls everywhere, the soul revue ultimately vanished in the late seventies as recorded sound pushed live performance out of the limelight and onto car stereos and refrigerator-sized boom boxes. The performers returned to their day jobs and the world was the poorer for it.
That is, until April 4th, 2009, when your Numero Group mounted the first Eccentric Soul Revue, packing Chicagos Park West Theater with soul-hungry acolytes, satisfying them and then some with the real thing: a 17-piece band backing The Notations, Renaldo Domino, The Final Solution, Nate Evans, and Syl Johnson, putting on a show that combined 70s slick with revival-meeting fervor.
It was a magical evening, as the past lived and breathed and got on down, right here in the present. E. B. DuBois Institute for African and African American Research, Harvard University (Cambridge, USA) in 2011. In 2007 he was awarded a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris, France).

Nance was awarded the Harriet Hale Wooley Scholarship, Foundation des Etats-Unis (Paris, France) in 2008 and an Artists’ Fellowship (Video/Film), New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) (New York, USA) in 2012.
Over 2012, he has screened his film An Oversimplification of Her Beauty (2012) at New Frontier, Sundance Film Festival (Park City, USA), the Brooklyn Museum (Brooklyn, USA), New Directors/New Films, a co-presentation of The Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA) and the Film Society of Lincoln Center, and the International Film Festival Rotterdam (Rotterdam, the Netherlands).
His work has been exhibited in group exhibitions at Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art (Newark, USA) in 2011, the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (New York, USA) in 2011, Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture (Baltimore, USA) in 2011, and the Rush Arts Gallery + Resource Center (New York, USA) in 2010.

Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Manhattan Island is the city’s most well known district and the Rockefeller Center in Midtown is often referred to as the heart of the New York. Nearby the Roman Catholic Saint Patrick´s Cathedral is the largest and most magnificent church in the United States. The Grand Central Terminal divides Park Avenue and is a huge station with which the railroad kings, the Venderbilts, left an indelible mark. The huge hall, with its magnificent vaulted ceiling in Beaux Arts style, has been the city’s central railway station for twelve lines since 1913. The confines of Chinatown are inhabited by a hundred and fifty thousand Chinese from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, most of whom are unable to speak a word of English. Chinese characters wherever one looks and restaurants and Asian stores on every street corner. The famous Wall Street was named after a wall which in the early days protected the growing city against attack by Native American Indians. However, the roots of its subsequent claim to fame were laid in 1792. The young state desperately needed investment and therefore the powers that be decided to issue bonds. Close by, on a small island, is New York’s most famous landmark, the Statue Of Liberty. The head of Lady Liberty leads to the crown from which there are stunning views from several windows. New York City is most certainly unique. A city that’s very much alive and kicking, self-confident and always a surprise!

Here are some Things to do in NYC :) This 1st of a "Things to do in NYC" is the BASICS. I will do more in depth videos on neighborhoods like Harlem, Brooklyn, Lower East Side which will include shopping, entertainment, eating, all that :) But for now I hope you find this helpful and excited about exploring NYC. Summer in NYC isn't really summer until you get your butt on a rooftop. My pick was Jimmy Rooftop. Sunday's after 3pm are bomb! Amazing music courtesy of DJ Cato. I believe it is doorman discretion, which means, dress your best and don't travel with a bunch of dudes. You get an amazing view of the sun setting over the Hudson River and you get to splash around in the pool if you so choose. I chose this spot because I used to work here and loved it!

Yes! Go to Church! After you party it up Saturday night or Sunday afternoon bring your sinful behind to this awesome church! You don't have to be religious to attend. This is a non-denominal church and people from all over the world come here for the amazing sermons and not to mention the interior. This Church is a converted theatre and a must see. Now go and pray!

Here are some Things to do in NYC :) This 1st of a "Things to do in NYC" is the BASICS. I will do more in depth videos on neighborhoods like Harlem, Brooklyn, Lower East Side which will include shopping, entertainment, eating, all that :) But for now I hope you find this helpful and excited about exploring NYC. I didn't "forget" to list anything. This is just the first video and trust their are a million things to do. Sorry for not including Brooklyn. The Marion Southland Mall (Marion Centre) is nearly empty
Marion Ohio. Another case where losing the anchors isn't the problem with the mall. The interior stores are leaving in droves, however. Every time I visit this mall, there's a new labelscar where a store once stood. I believe this mall was built around 1965-1970, when Marion still had enough people to support a mall. As far as I know, it was originally anchored by Sears, JCPenney, and Elder Beerman. JCPenney pulled out in 2002. The following factors have probably contributed to Southland Mall's demise: Poor freeway access. To get to it from the nearest freeway (US 23) you either have to drive six miles south of Marion to Bethlehem Road, and find your way to State Route 423, then drive four or five miles back into Marion, or you have to fight Marion traffic crossing town on State Route 9...

Once a mainstay of theaters, gymnasiums and VFW halls everywhere, the soul revue ultimately vanished in the late seventies as recorded sound pushed live performance out of the limelight and onto car stereos and refrigerator-sized boom boxes. We used the natural elements of the forest (trees, rocks, earth, water and light) to articulate the harmony of the landscape, and the relationship of the earth to the human body as the sustainer of life. The male characters represent the body in conflict, divided against itself, in what appears to be an unsuccessful attempt to overpower the landscape with brute force. I believe this mall was built around 1965-1970, when Marion still had enough people to support a mall. As far as I know, it was originally anchored by Sears, JCPenney, and Elder Beerman. JCPenney pulled out in 2002.
The following factors have probably contributed to Southland Mall's demise: Poor freeway access. To get to it from the nearest freeway (US 23) you either have to drive six miles south of Marion to Bethlehem Road, and find your way to State Route 423, then drive four or five miles back into Marion, or you have to fight Marion traffic crossing town on State Route 95 or 309 to get to State Route 423 (Marion's street system is also one of the WORST mazes of one-way streets and continuous-flow ramps in the country.) One has to question the management's competence when much of the mall smells like mold, in some areas it's worse than Southtown Mall in Fort Wayne! Marion has been shrinking in population steadily for the last 30 years. There are really no other sizable cities nearby to support the mall. Shoppers in Delaware, Ohio (the next county south of Marion) are far too trendy to shop here, and they are closer to Columbus than they are to Marion anyway. Old Navy has pulled out of the mall completely. And they didn't build a replacement store. The mall is clearly hurt by Meijer and by Wal-Mart Supercenter, both of which are within a quarter mile of US 23. Few of the chain stores have modern logos - as if they don't want to invest the money on a mall they're probably going to pull out of soon. Waldenbooks, usually one of the last stores to leave a mall in Ohio, still has an old logo from the 1980's, before they changed it.
Steve and Barry's recently folded and Sears may survive for a while with Elder Beerman, but who knows? But I would say the rest of the mall is likely to be shuttered, or at least completely barren, in the next two years.

Artists Statement
“For our film, we traveled to the woods in Maine to put ourselves in a serene environment that would communicate a sense of peacefulness to the viewer. Biographies
Hank Willis Thomas (born USA, 1976) currently lives and works in New York, USA.
He received a BFA from the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University (New York, USA) in 1988 and an MFA and MA from California College of the Arts (San Francisco, USA) in 2004.
Willis Thomas was a Fellow at the Ellen Stone Belic Institute for the Study of Women & Gender in the Arts & Media, Columbia College Chicago (Chicago, USA) in 2012 and was a part of The Fellows Program, W. E. B. DuBois Institute for African and African American Research, Harvard University (Cambridge, USA) in 2011. In 2007 he was awarded a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris, France).
Willis Thomas was included in the NYPH’12, New York Photo Festival (New York, USA) in 2012, New Frontier, Sundance Film Festival (Park City) in 2008, and the 12th Istanbul Biennial (Istanbul, Turkey) in 2011.
He has had solo exhibitions at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Corcoran College of Art + Design (Washington, USA) in 2011, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Johnson County Community College (Kansas City, USA) in 2009, and The Baltimore Museum of Art (Baltimore, USA) in 2009.
Willis Thomas was included in group exhibitions at the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt/Main (Frankfurt am Main, Germany) in 2012, the Wexner Center for the Arts, The Ohio State University (Columbus, USA) in 2010, and at the High Museum of Art (Atlanta, USA) in 2008.
Willis Thomas’s work is in numerous public and private collections, including the Brooklyn Museum (Brooklyn, USA), The Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA), and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York, USA).
Terence Nance (born USA, 1982) currently lives and works in both Brooklyn, USA and in Oakland, USA.

Artists Statement
“For our film, we traveled to the woods in Maine to put ourselves in a serene environment that would communicate a sense of peacefulness to the viewer. We used the natural elements of the forest (trees, rocks, earth, water and light) to articulate the harmony of the landscape, and the relationship of the earth to the human body as the sustainer of life.
The male characters represent the body in conflict, divided against itself, in what appears to be an unsuccessful attempt to overpower the landscape with brute force. The female characters are the custodians of the forest, observing the males in their struggles, and ultimately relinquishing them from their torment. Peace.”
Biographies
Hank Willis Thomas (born USA, 1976) currently lives and works in New York, USA.
He received a BFA from the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University (New York, USA) in 1988 and an MFA and MA from California College of the Arts (San Francisco, USA) in 2004.
Willis Thomas was a Fellow at the Ellen Stone Belic Institute for the Study of Women & Gender in the Arts & Media, Columbia College Chicago (Chicago, USA) in 2012 and was a part of The Fellows Program, W. E. B. DuBois Institute for African and African American Research, Harvard University (Cambridge, USA) in 2011. In 2007 he was awarded a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris, France).
Willis Thomas was included in the NYPH’12, New York Photo Festival (New York, USA) in 2012, New Frontier, Sundance Film Festival (Park City) in 2008, and the 12th Istanbul Biennial (Istanbul, Turkey) in 2011.
He has had solo exhibitions at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Corcoran College of Art + Design (Washington, USA) in 2011, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Johnson County Community College (Kansas City, USA) in 2009, and The Baltimore Museum of Art (Baltimore, USA) in 2009.
Willis Thomas was included in group exhibitions at the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt/Main (Frankfurt am Main, Germany) in 2012, the Wexner Center for the Arts, The Ohio State University (Columbus, USA) in 2010, and at the High Museum of Art (Atlanta, USA) in 2008.
Willis Thomas’s work is in numerous public and private collections, including the Brooklyn Museum (Brooklyn, USA), The Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA), and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York, USA).
Terence Nance (born USA, 1982) currently lives and works in both Brooklyn, USA and in Oakland, USA.
