Willie Maxwell II (born June 7, 1991), better known by his stage name Fetty Wap, is an American hip hop recording artist from Paterson, New Jersey. He rose to prominence with his 2014 breakout single "Trap Queen", which was a sleeper hit that peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 2015. The success of "Trap Queen" helped Fetty Wap secure a record deal with 300 Entertainment and a distribution deal with Atlantic Records. He subsequently released the Top 40 hits "679", "My Way" and "Again". Fetty Wap's eponymously titled debut album was released in September 2015 and reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Life and career

Early life

Willie Maxwell was born on June 7, 1991 and raised in Paterson, New Jersey. He began taking interest in music in 2013. Initially starting off as only a rapper, he later decided to start singing as well because he "wanted to do something different". He was nicknamed "Fetty" (slang for money) as he was known for making money. "Wap" was added to the end of the name to perform under in tribute to Gucci Mane's alias, GuWop. When he was a child, Maxwell developed glaucoma in both eyes. He revealed in a 2015 interview that doctors were unable to save his left eye and instead fitted him with an ocular prosthesis.

"679" is the second single by American rapper Fetty Wap from his self-titled debut album. The song features Remy Boyz member Monty & former Remy Boyz member P-Dice. "679" peaked at number 4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, becoming his second highest-charting single after "Trap Queen". The album version of the song omits P-Dice's verse, only featuring Monty.

"679" was first released in early 2014 on the artist's SoundCloud account. Following the success of "Trap Queen", it was released commercially on June 29, 2015.

Music video

The video for "679" was released to the WorldStarHipHop official YouTube channel in May 2015. It was later uploaded to Fetty Wap's YouTube channel in July 2015 and has over 100 million views as of December.

Commercial performance

"679" was the highest-ranking debut on the Billboard Hot 100 for the chart dated July 18, 2015, entering the chart at number 34. Its chart debut was fueled by first-week digital download sales of 86,000 copies as well as 3.4 million domestic streams. The following week, it jumped to number 19, earning the biggest gain in streams on the chart. "679" became Wap's third top 10 hit in the United States during the year of 2015 when it reached number eight on the chart dated September 5, 2015, and has since reached number four. As of November 2015, "679" has sold 1,268,000 copies domestically.

William Singe

William Anthony Singe (born 2 July 1992), better known by his stage name William Singe, is an Australian singer, songwriter and producer. He is most notable for his online videos that have amassed hundreds of millions of YouTube and Facebook views.

Singe started his career as a member of The Collective, an Australian boy band which was formed during the fourth season of The X Factor Australia in 2012, finishing in third place. The Collective subsequently signed with Sony Music Australia and released seven singles and a self-titled album. They disbanded after Singe left the group in 2015.

In 2014 and 2015, Singe recorded numerous R&B, pop, hip-hop and rap covers in his bedroom. In less than a year, he accumulated over two million Facebook fans, reached a #1 position on Spotify, twenty million Spotify streams, and earned more than fifty million video views and half a million subscribers on YouTube.

Trap Queen

Trap Queen is the debut single by American rapper Fetty Wap from his self-titled debut album (2015). Following its online premiere in March 2014, it was released independently on April 22, 2014 before being re-released in conjunction with 300 Entertainment on December 15, 2014. The song was well received by critics who praised the vocals and production for being cheery and infectious.

In 2015, "Trap Queen" became Fetty Wap's first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and was a sleeper hit which ultimately went on to be a top ten hit, peaking at number 2; the song spent 25 consecutive weeks in the top-10. "Trap Queen" has peaked within the top ten of the charts in Denmark and the United Kingdom. An accompanying music video for the song, directed by Nitt Da Gritt, was released on his YouTube page that features Wap and his girlfriend partying at their apartment. He first performed the song on television at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards with Fall Out Boy and would make later appearances at The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Nick Cannon Presents Wild 'n Out and the BET Awards 2015 to perform the song. The song received two nominations at the 58th Grammy Awards: Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.
