You are “The Suck”.

The deadline has passed. The contest is over. Not a single person entered. Nuff said.

0 hits in 5 days. Boo!

A new low for our little website. Not a single visitor in 5 days. Not even an e-mail to ask about the contest? Hopefully things will change soon.

So far, no good.

Still no entries. I didn’t think it would be this difficult.

The Daily Cougar

Today we posted an online ad in The Daily Cougar, U of H’s newspaper. It’s free to post in one category for students and faculty. Hopefully it will draw the attention of some creative writing majors. We’re looking forward to reading your stories.

When we started planning to create this magazine we knew that we would have to advertise. We thought a few fliers at the University of Houston and the surrounding junior colleges might get some interest. U of H rejected the idea and said that we had to be a student organization to post anything on their bulletins. We don’t know what the junior colleges will say, but we hope it won’t be the same response.

We have had some luck though with paid advertisement. Facebook has very simple, cheap, and effective ads. Over half of the hits we’ve had so far have been directed from Facebook. Although many people have viewed our contest page, nobody has submitted a story. Our well wishers tell us, “Give them time to write a story. It’s still early.” It’s probably true…We’ll just have to wait and see.

So far we have had several visits to our site, but no submissions as of yet. Now is your chance to be the first one. There is still plenty of time to enter before the deadline 3/31/2010.

Let me tell you a little bit more about what kind of stories I’m looking for. I’m are looking for original unpublished stories. Personally I like fiction, especially sci-fi. Chuck Palahniuk, Karen Traviss, and Stephen King are some of my favorite authors. However I don’t expect any of them to enter the contest. All kidding aside, what I really want to read is a story that makes me want to keep on reading.

There will be more than one judge for the contest. Right now it’s just myself and one other, but depending on how many submissions we receive we will most likely get one more person to help read and judge your submissions. Our other judge enjoys biographical stories.

If you have any questions, please feel to ask.
