The Irish Sea (Irish: Muir Éireann,Manx: Y Keayn Yernagh,Scots: Erse Sea, Scottish Gaelic: Muir Èireann,Ulster-Scots: Airish Sea, Welsh: Môr Iwerddon) separates the islands of Ireland and Great Britain. It is connected to the Celtic Sea in the south by St George's Channel, and to the Inner Seas off the West Coast of Scotland in the north by the North Channel. Anglesey is the largest island within the Irish Sea, followed by the Isle of Man. The sea is occasionally, but rarely, referred to as the Manx Sea (Irish: Muir Meann,Manx: Mooir Vannin, Scottish Gaelic: Muir Mhanainn).
The sea is of significant economic importance to regional trade, shipping and transport, fishing, and power generation in the form of wind power and nuclear plants. Annual traffic between Great Britain and Ireland amounts to over 12 million passengers and 17 million tonnes (17,000,000 long tons; 19,000,000 short tons) of traded goods.
The Irish Sea has undergone a series of dramatic changes over the last 20,000 years as the last glacial period ended and was replaced by warmer conditions. At the height of the glaciation the central part of the modern sea was probably a long freshwater lake. As the ice retreated 10,000 years ago the lake reconnected to the sea, becoming brackish and then fully saline once again.

What makes this group special is an ability to conjoin different styles of music: they successfully commix a traditional irish, scottish, breton music (also a classical indian music) with contemporary one. The beauty of Ireland is perfectly represented during a tour of Torr Head. This eastern headland is covered with a green carpet of plants, bushes, and trees, and stunning views of the Irish Sea and Antrim County’s lush countryside. There’s a lot of history behind this area; for centuries, Torr Head acted as a watchpoint for Lloyd’s of London, marking the comings and goings of transatlantic shipping. Your Torr Head sightseeing will take you around narrow, winding roads, past small fishing villages and clifftop lookout points. Make sure you bring your camera—on a clear day you can see straight across the North Channel to the Mull of Kintyre, located some 10 miles away in Scotland. What was your favorite aspect of Torr Head? Visit our Torr Head travel guide page for more information or ...

Deepest Ireland is best experienced on its west coast, in the Gaeltacht — where the people speak Gaelic and the rugged villages have changed little over the generations. After exploring the rugged and remote Aran Islands, we settle into Galway, chase a friendly dolphin, and delve into Ireland in the extreme, along the Dingle Peninsula. Ringing with traditional music from its rustic pubs and dotted with prehistoric "fairy forts," this region is something special. If you're to fall in love with Ireland, chances are it'll be right here. © 2002 Rick Steves' Europe

I have started my trip to Ireland! I was so excited to go on the Stena car ferry to Dublin because I have never been on it before! We traveled to Holyhead and we were able to get into the "First Class" lounge, which was amazing, but I was feeling queasy because of having my rabies injection earlier. We then drove to Kinnegard and onto Achill Islands through the Wild Atlantic Way. Kinsale, Ireland, located on the Irish Sea just south of Cork, is a popular tourist destination in southern Ireland. The town mixes great sights, resturants and pubs with history. The Spanish Fleet sailed into the harbor in 1601 to aid Irish Clans push the English out of Ireland. English forces kept the parties from linking up and Ireland remained under English control until 1922. The passenger liner Lusitania was sunk near by in 1915 by a German U-Boat. This event helped to spur America to enter the First World War.

Sea Kayak Around Ireland is 45 minute documentary the tells the story of 2 Irish Sea Kayakers who take on their dream journey of circumnavigating their country. 2015 will go down, for myself (Jon Hynes) and my paddling partner, Sean Cahill as being one of our most memorable years. We both have enjoyed a lifetime of adventures from a very young age. This has been one of our most satisfying adventures yet. We really hope you enjoy our documentary “Sea Kayak Around Ireland”. It’s been a dream of our to paddle around our own country for many years. In fact we were inspired by many of our kayaking friends who have taken on the journey in the past. Over the year both Sean and I have kayaked all over the world, we’ve had great victories over nature and the elements both on the sea and on the...

Too long I'm waiting
Been waiting for a sign
My dreams decaying
Rusted here between the lines
Oh crazy, truly I must be
You never asked these things of me
You gave me freedom, but I did not see
Chorus:
That if I ride these dreams
To the Irish sea
Even there
Your heart
Rides with me
What was I thinking?
What kept my hands so tied?
Was I waiting for angels
To write it in the sky?
The truth so plain for me to see
I was too frightedned to believe
That every whispered word was meant for me
CHORUS
Sweet revelation, well I
I drink it in
It heals my heart
Like medicine
So I take this life
And I shake it from this sleep
'Cause I'm fire
With the heat
Of the newly freed
