Irving Falu is a professional baseball infielder for the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball (MLB).
After playing college baseball at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa, Falu was drafted by the Royals in the 21st round of the 2003 MLB Draft. Falu was called up to the major league level for the first time on May 3, 2012. He made his debut on May 6 against the New York Yankees at shortstop, and hit a triple in his first major league at-bat, as well as a base hit with his second at bat.
Falu is the cousin of former Boston Red Sox first base coach Luis Alicea.
Falu, born Falguni Shah in Mumbai, India is a New York-based singer and songwriter whose music blends ancient classical Indian melodies with contemporary western sounds. In her burgeoning U.S.-based career, she has worked with and performed alongside a wide array of artists including A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire), Yo-Yo Ma (in The Silk Road Project), Philip Glass, Wyclef Jean, her teacher Ustad Sultan Khan, Blues Traveler, and Bernie Worrell (Parliament Funkadelic).
In her early years in Mumbai, Falu was trained rigorously in the Jaipur gharana musical tradition, honing her talent for up to 16 hours a day at times. She later continued studying under the legendary sarangi/vocal master Ustad Sultan Khan. Falu moved to the States in 2000, and joined the Boston-based Indo-American band Karyshma as lead vocalist.
In 2001, she met up with Asian Massive leader Karsh Kale, and hit the nationwide university, club and festival circuits. After fulfilling a 2-year Indian music visiting lectureship at Tufts University in Boston, Falu moved to New York where she formed her own band of the same name. They began performing at music venues throughout New York, quickly garnering the attention of fans across the city.
Christopher John Carpenter (born April 27, 1975 in Exeter, New Hampshire) is a starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who has played for the St. Louis Cardinals since 2003, and is currently signed with the team through the 2013 season.
Carpenter was 22 years old and a highly-regarded prospect when he broke into the majors in 1997 with the Toronto Blue Jays. He stayed with Toronto until after the 2002 season. He is 6' 6" tall and weighs 230 pounds.
Carpenter began his pro career with the Medicine Hat Jays of the short-season Pioneer League in 1994. In his debut against the Great Falls Dodgers, he tossed six scoreless innings of one-hit ball, fanning nine along the way. He ended up with a mark of 6–3 and turned in the league’s third-lowest ERA. He was also picked as the Pioneer League’s #3 prospect by league managers, behind Aaron Boone and Ray Brown.
Carpenter made his major league debut as a starter against the Minnesota Twins on May 12, 1997, pitching three innings in a 12–2 loss. He would lose his first five decisions before defeating the Chicago White Sox 6–5 on August 19, 1997. Carpenter pitched his first career complete game and shutout on September 9, 1997 as Toronto defeated the Anaheim Angels 2–0. Carpenter finished his rookie season with a 3–7 record and a 5.09 ERA.
Eddie Martinez is an American guitarist, born and raised in New York City, who mainly functions as a session musician. He has worked with David Lee Roth (on Crazy from the Heat), Run-D.M.C. (on Run-D.M.C. and King of Rock), Robert Palmer (most notably "Simply Irresistible"), Meat Loaf (Bat out of Hell II: Back into Hell), several Jim Steinman projects, and many others. He also played jazz guitar during Blondie's Farewell Concert in 1982 in Toronto and he accompanied Mick Jagger at the first Live Aid concert in 1985. He has recorded one solo album, No Lies, on Cotillion Records which was produced by Bernard Edwards.
