Govardhan Asrani born 1 January 1941 in Jaipur, India , popularly known simply as Asrani, is an actor in Indian films whose Bollywood career has spanned over 35 years. His wife Manju Bansal is an actress.
He was born in a middle class Sindhi family. His father migrated to Jaipur after the Partition of India and opened a shop selling carpets. He has four sisters and three brothers: two elder and one younger. Asrani was highly uninterested in business and very weak in mathematics. He completed his matriculation from St. Xaviers School and did his graduation from Rajasthan College, Jaipur. He simultaneously worked as a voice artist on All India Radio, Jaipur, to pay for his education. His ultimate aim was to become an actor.
He began to learn acting from Sahitya Kalbhai Thakkar from 1960 to 1962. In 1962, he traveled to Mumbai and began to seek opportunities to act. In 1963, Hrishikesh Mukherjee advised him to learn acting professionally.
In 1964 Asrani joined the Film Institute in Poona. He acted in four other movies, mainly as actor or supporting actor in Gujrati from 1967 to 1969 before landing his first Hindi movie role in Umang, a low-budget movie, which had Subhash Ghai and Paintal. In 1969, he was offered the role of Rajesh Khanna's friend in Aradhana, but Rajesh was more comfortable with an older person and preferred Sujit Kumar. His old advisor, Hrishikesh Mukherjee also passed him over for the movie Anand, giving the role to an older person, but gave Asrani a role in Bawarchi. This role set the tone for a number of supporting or comic roles like Abhimaan (supporting), Chala Murari Hero Banne (comedy), Chupke Chupke (comedy), Choti Si Baat (comedy) or his most remembered role, as the jailer in Sholay. He acted in Khoon Pasina, marking a serious role other than comedy. He was hugely talked about in the 1970s and is one of Amitabh Bachchan's close friends. In the 2007 Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding, Asrani and Prem Chopra were the only two of Amitabh's old friends invited.
Asrani has acted in over 300 films over the last 35 years and also in close to 150 Gujarati films.

Abhimaan (Hindi: अभिमान, Urdu: ابھِمان, translation: Pride) is a 1973 Bollywood musical drama film starring Amitabh Bachchan; his real-life wife, Jaya Bachchan; Asrani; and Bindu. It was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
The film is perhaps best remembered for its songs, composed and arranged by the late S. D. Burman, written by Majrooh Sultanpuri, and sung by playback singers Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, and Kishore Kumar. Film was declared Hit by Trade Guide, The Bollywood trade magazine published at that time. Jaya Bachchan won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for Abhimaan. According to author Raju Bharatan, Hrishikesh Mukherjee based the film's story on the life of singer Kishore Kumar and his first wife, Ruma Ghosh.

Asrani
Govardhan Asrani, popularly known simply as Asrani, is an Indian actor and director whose Bollywood career has spanned five decades. He has played in both Gujarati and Hindi films, and his roles include lead hero performances, character roles, comedic roles, as well as supporting parts.
Early life
Asrani was born in a middle class Hindu Sindhi family. His father migrated to Jaipur after the Partition of India and opened a shop selling carpets. He has four sisters and three brothers: two elder and one younger. Asrani was highly uninterested in business and very weak in mathematics. He completed his matriculation from St. Xaviers School and did his graduation from Rajasthan College, Jaipur. He simultaneously worked as a voice artist at All India Radio, Jaipur, to pay for his education. His ultimate aim was to become an actor.
He is married to actress Manju (nee Bansal), with whom he fell in love working together in films like Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar and Tapasya. In Aaj Ki Taza Khabar, Asrani played as Champak Boomia / Amit Desai and Manju played role of Kesari Desai and for this role Asrani won Filmfare Award for Best Comedian. Later the couple acted in Hum Nahin Sudhrenge, a home production directed by Asrani in 1980.

Mehmood Ali Khan (29 September 1932 - 23 July 2004), popularly known simply as Mehmood, was an Indian actor, director and producer best known for playing comic roles in Hindi films. During his career of more than four decades, he worked in over 300 Hindi films. Mehmood was one of eight children born to actor and dancer Mumtaz Ali in Bombay. Mehmood had an elder sister and six younger siblings. His sister, Minoo Mumtaz, was also a successful dancer and character actress in Bollywood movies. He started acting reluctantly as a child in Bombay talkie films like Kismet. Some of his early jobs before he concentrated only on acting were driving, doing odd jobs, and selling poultry. He worked as driver of director P. L. Santoshi. Later, Santoshi's son Rajkumar Santoshi cast Mehmood in his venture Andaz Apna Apna. He was hired to teach table tennis to Meena Kumari in those days. He later married her sister Madhu. After getting married and becoming a father, he decided to act to earn a better living. He got a small break as a murder victim in the film C.I.D.. He started off by doing small unnoticed roles in films like Do Bigha Zameen and Pyaasa. He later went on to act in lead roles, but he was appreciated for his comedy, some of which was in the Hyderabad region Urdu accent. His first break as both a director and an actor was Bhoot Bangla with actress Tanuja. The movie paved the way for Mehmood to succeed Johnny Walker as the most successful Bollywood comedian. He followed his successes with superhit comic roles in films like Padosan (As a Tamil Brahmin Music Teacher- one of his greatest roles), Love in Tokyo, Aankhen, Bombay to Goa and Pyaar Kiye Jaa. He also became a sterling director of Hindi films Kunwara Baap being a prime example. Mehmood was riding on his success from 1965 to 1985 when he was considered one of the more successful movie artists. Amitabh Bachchan was a tenant for 11 months at the Mehmood Outhouse from 1967--1968 and again from 1972-1973 (4 Months). Mehmood acted and directed Bombay to Goa in which Amitabh was a lead actor. However, since the eighties, Mehmood's popularity began to decline as other prominent comedy actors like Jagdeep, Asrani, Paintal and Kader Khan bagged more comic roles. They were followed by Anupam Kher and Johnny Lever. Mehmood like all other contemporaries had not made wise investments and his financial prosperity began to decline. He made a handful of movies from 1989 to 1999 but most of them were either shelved or made no impression. He acted as Johny in Rajkumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna; that was his last hit film as an actor. He died in his sleep on 23 July 2004 in Pennsylvania, US, where he had gone for treatment of heart disease after suffering poor health for several years. His fans were able to pay homage to him at Mehboob Studio in Bandra, Mumbai, India. Mehmood's son is a singer and composer who has also acted in films. -

Mehmood Ali Khan (29 September 1932 - 23 July 2004), popularly known simply as Mehmood, was an Indian actor, director and producer best known for playing comic roles in Hindi films. During his career of more than four decades, he worked in over 300 Hindi films. Mehmood was one of eight children born to actor and dancer Mumtaz Ali in Bombay. Mehmood had an elder sister and six younger siblings. His sister, Minoo Mumtaz, was also a successful dancer and character actress in Bollywood movies. Govardhan Asrani born 1 January 1941 in Jaipur, India , popularly known simply as Asrani, is an actor in Indian films whose Bollywood career has spanned over 35 years. His wife Manju Bansal is an actress.
He was born in a middle class Sindhi family. His father migrated to Jaipur after the Partition of India and opened a shop selling carpets. He has four sisters and three brothers: two elder and one younger. Asrani was highly uninterested in business and very weak in mathematics. He completed his matriculation from St. Xaviers School and did his graduation from Rajasthan College, Jaipur. He simultaneously worked as a voice artist on All India Radio, Jaipur, to pay for his education. His ultimate aim was to become an actor.
He began to learn acting from Sahitya Kalbhai Thakkar from 1960 to 1962. In 1962, he traveled to Mumbai and began to seek opportunities to act. In 1963, Hrishikesh Mukherjee advised him to learn acting professionally.
In 1964 Asrani joined the Film Institute in Poona. He acted in four other movies, mainly as actor or supporting actor in Gujrati from 1967 to 1969 before landing his first Hindi movie role in Umang, a low-budget movie, which had Subhash Ghai and Paintal. In 1969, he was offered the role of Rajesh Khanna's friend in Aradhana, but Rajesh was more comfortable with an older person and preferred Sujit Kumar. His old advisor, Hrishikesh Mukherjee also passed him over for the movie Anand, giving the role to an older person, but gave Asrani a role in Bawarchi. This role set the tone for a number of supporting or comic roles like Abhimaan (supporting), Chala Murari Hero Banne (comedy), Chupke Chupke (comedy), Choti Si Baat (comedy) or his most remembered role, as the jailer in Sholay. He acted in Khoon Pasina, marking a serious role other than comedy. He was hugely talked about in the 1970s and is one of Amitabh Bachchan's close friends. In the 2007 Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding, Asrani and Prem Chopra were the only two of Amitabh's old friends invited.
Asrani has acted in over 300 films over the last 35 years and also in close to 150 Gujarati films.

After getting married and becoming a father, he decided to act to earn a better living. He got a small break as a murder victim in the film C.I.D.. He started off by doing small unnoticed roles in films like Do Bigha Zameen and Pyaasa. He later went on to act in lead roles, but he was appreciated for his comedy, some of which was in the Hyderabad region Urdu accent.

Amitabh Bachchan was a tenant for 11 months at the Mehmood Outhouse from 1967--1968 and again from 1972-1973 (4 Months). Mehmood acted and directed Bombay to Goa in which Amitabh was a lead actor.
However, since the eighties, Mehmood's popularity began to decline as other prominent comedy actors like Jagdeep, Asrani, Paintal and Kader Khan bagged more comic roles. They were followed by Anupam Kher and Johnny Lever. Mehmood like all other contemporaries had not made wise investments and his financial prosperity began to decline. He made a handful of movies from 1989 to 1999 but most of them were either shelved or made no impression. He acted as Johny in Rajkumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna; that was his last hit film as an actor.
He died in his sleep on 23 July 2004 in Pennsylvania, US, where he had gone for treatment of heart disease after suffering poor health for several years. His fans were able to pay homage to him at Mehboob Studio in Bandra, Mumbai, India.

Vaidehi (Manisha Koirala) lives with her husband Raghu (Jackie Shroff). On the outside, she lives a sophisticated life, but behind closed doors, her husband is abusive and has extramarital affairs. When she takes a stand for herself, she is banished from the household. She goes back to her parents' house but they too reject her. Vaidehi soon finds out that she is pregnant.
Raghu gets into a car accident, which results in him being unable to father a child. When he discovers that Vaidehi is pregnant, he calls her, faking remorse, and asks for her to return. Vaidehi agrees, thinking Raghu has mended his ways. Raghu and his father plot for the child to become their heir and if Vaidehi intervenes, she will be killed. Meanwhile, Vaidehi is informed by a friend about Raghu's true intentions, and so she escapes from his henchmen. She is helped by Raju (Anil Kapoor), a petty, but kindhearted thief. He hears Vaidehi's story and gives her money from his heist to help. To hide from Raghu and his henchmen, Vaidehi gatecrashes a wedding procession.
At the wedding, she meets Maithili (Mahima Chaudhary), a bride-to-be from a middle-class family. Maithili is marrying a man who hails from a rich background. The two women witness Maithili's father being hassled by demands for an opulent wedding, which he cannot afford, and is forced to pay dowry. Vaidehi tries to convince Raju to give his money from the heist. He initially refuses but changing his mind, he returns to give his heist money to Vaidehi. The groom's friend attempts to rape Maithili. As the wedding ceremony progresses, one of the guest recognises the heist money which initially belonged to him. Moreover, the groom's friend tells the groom's family that he spotted a man (Raju) in Maithili's room. Maithili is accused of having sexual relations with Raju in return for money, which leads Raju to accept his theft as the situation worsens. Having tolerated enough, Maithili insults the groom's family and they flee from the wedding.

Govardhan Asrani born 1 January 1941 in Jaipur, India , popularly known simply as Asrani, is an actor in Indian films whose Bollywood career has spanned over 35 years. His wife Manju Bansal is an actress.
He was born in a middle class Sindhi family. His father migrated to Jaipur after the Partition of India and opened a shop selling carpets. He has four sisters and three brothers: two elder and one younger. Asrani was highly uninterested in business and very weak in mathematics. He completed his matriculation from St. Xaviers School and did his graduation from Rajasthan College, Jaipur. He simultaneously worked as a voice artist on All India Radio, Jaipur, to pay for his education. His ultimate aim was to become an actor.
He began to learn acting from Sahitya Kalbhai Thakkar from 1960 to 1962. In 1962, he traveled to Mumbai and began to seek opportunities to act. In 1963, Hrishikesh Mukherjee advised him to learn acting professionally.
In 1964 Asrani joined the Film Institute in Poona. He acted in four other movies, mainly as actor or supporting actor in Gujrati from 1967 to 1969 before landing his first Hindi movie role in Umang, a low-budget movie, which had Subhash Ghai and Paintal. In 1969, he was offered the role of Rajesh Khanna's friend in Aradhana, but Rajesh was more comfortable with an older person and preferred Sujit Kumar. His old advisor, Hrishikesh Mukherjee also passed him over for the movie Anand, giving the role to an older person, but gave Asrani a role in Bawarchi. This role set the tone for a number of supporting or comic roles like Abhimaan (supporting), Chala Murari Hero Banne (comedy), Chupke Chupke (comedy), Choti Si Baat (comedy) or his most remembered role, as the jailer in Sholay. He acted in Khoon Pasina, marking a serious role other than comedy. He was hugely talked about in the 1970s and is one of Amitabh Bachchan's close friends. In the 2007 Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding, Asrani and Prem Chopra were the only two of Amitabh's old friends invited.
Asrani has acted in over 300 films over the last 35 years and also in close to 150 Gujarati films.
