Haan was a ‘dream come true’, for the Team, so a warm -reaching Star- THANK YOU, to this huge Artist and above all Human. @ Many thanks to Kostas Koulis + http://www.noizy.gr , and furthermore http://dimotikoradiofono.gr/ who offered to host Jenny's interview for Progressive Room. * On this video, we included the albums that Jenny Haan participates-- -- --Descriptions of BABE RUTH Albums | by Progressive Room-- -First Base (1972) First base is the debut album and the most famous from Babe Ruth, mixing hard rock, symphonic and progressive genres. The album starts with funk rock riffs but continues with melodic grooves, catchy guitar with solid rhythm section under the crystal voice of Janita Haan. The band blends more symphonic melodies, in the song “The Runaways” we can hear also some cello tunes with a great piano work under the soft and warm vocals from Janita. Frank Zappa’s “King Kong” is a cover with a leading electric piano and excellent guitar work. The creativity on composition and the mixture of some important genres made this album a big influential one. -Amar Caballero (1973) This is an original gem as the ‘’First Base’’, but it is an unknown and an underestimated album in comparison with the debut. The creative duo of Janita Haan and Alan Shacklock were at the peak of their form, giving birth to the most lyrical and most oriental album of their career. They covered here the Capitols’ ‘’Cool Jerk’’ in an excellent way. Soul and powerful vocals of Janita found an orchestral, Spanish folk inspired and hard rock music as a background with elements of funk and jazz, integrating a qualitative result. These compositions were clearly based on guitar writing, therefore multi-instrumentalist Alan showed his talent of playing in different genres as well. -Babe Ruth (1975) Their self-titled album came 3rd with the addendum of a new member on the keybords, Steve Gurl. There are also two great covers as a stable value of band’s choice. "A Fistful of Dollars" is a cover of their favourite composer Ennio Morricone (we also remember the first choice of the band to include themes of Ennio in their famous song ‘’Mexican’’ as it appeared in their debut album) and the second cover just after the first one in the track-list of the album is Curtis Mayfield's "We People Darker Than Blue". The album has a less prog rock approach in comparison with the two albums released ‘til that date, but their hard rock sound and the oriental riffs of Alan Shacklock appear to be in their characteristic way. Additionally, there are songs and passages of soulful (hard rock) ballads, folk and a hard rock ‘n’ roller called ‘’Jack O'Lantern’’. -Stealin' Home (1975) As a sequel in music direction, Stealin’ Home is a more ‘’straight’’ and easy-listening rock album than the previous self-titled one, with a variety of genres like powerful ballads, reggae rhythms, orchestral backround, hard rockin’ crunchy guitar riffs, rock ‘n’ roll, blues touch, funk and a few prog rock changes. However it was the last album that Janita "Jenny" Haan released with the band (in 70’s), it looked like she was in a great form, pulling her vocal abilities higher, and hit us with more power. Alan Shacklock had already departed and the guitars of this album and the next one were played by the newcomer Bernie Marsden. -Kid's Stuff (1976) After a full line up change, Baby Ruth released “Kid’s Stuff” in 1976. As many others Prog bands in that period they experimented with more pop, disco sounds in final mixture. There were also some blues rock elements, a lot of funk inspirations and a very good female vocals from Ellie Hope. -Que Pasa (2007) Babe Ruth’s reunion after 31 years done with Que Pasa, the four of five members are from the original lineup. This album is a mixture of rock, heavy rock with r’n’b, hip hop and dance music with a lot of Mexican music lines. There are moments that the band takes us back to “First Base” moments. Here we have a solid sound with a very good production!
