This video for new CDL commercial big rig 18 wheel truck drivers explains how I maximize my driving clock time to get the most hours behind the wheel, versus worrying about detention pay etc.
Although I'm new to the business, I already am averaging over 1000 week take home, by focusing on keeping my driving clock available versus staying on duty when I'm held up for any reason at a shipper or receiver.
I learned early in this business that focusing your attention on where the most money is made by you is your best bet, not chasing an hourly figure (detention pay only starts after an hour of sitting, and it averages out horribly if you do the math, versus driving and averaging 24 bucks an hour).
People thinking about getting into this truck driving business need to use common sense and stay focused on the bigger money per hour, not the smaller stuff.

This video is an example of what you would experience when taking a Class A CDL Road Test. In this video, and with many Class A CDL Road Tests, you will experience the following: turning out of parking lots crossing lanes of traffic - crossing railroad tracks near intersections where you need to turn tightly to the right - merging into turn lanes - entering highways - driving highway speeds - exiting highways - turning left at multiple turn lane intersections - driving down curvy roads at low speeds - taking tight left turns - driving on roads where lanes merge - stopping and starting on inclines - driving on roads where there are no stripes - driving on roads where one lane opens to two lanes - making a u turn in tight areas - (backing and parallel parking* not shown in this video, but at minute 13:15 - 13:25 you can see where you might be able to practice that maneuver) merging into turn lanes dealing with traffic and overhanging obstructions. Allen, Texas
Allen is an affluent city in Collin County, Texas, a northern suburb of Dallas. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a total population of 84,246.
History
The Allen area was previously home to the Caddo, Comanche, and other indigenous peoples. The first immigrants from the United States and Europe arrived in the early 1840s. The town was established by the Houston and Central Texas Railroad and named in 1872 for Ebenezer Allen, a state politician and railroad promoter. The railroad allowed sale of crops across the country before they rotted, causing a shift from the previous cattle-based agriculture. On February 22, 1878, a gang led by Sam Bass committed in Allen what is said to be Texas's first train robbery.
From 1908 through 1948, Allen was a stop along the Texas Traction Company's interurban line from Denison to Dallas. Allen was a small town of a few hundred residents when it was incorporated in 1953. Since this time, it has grown dramatically due to the construction of U.S. Route 75, the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and the development of nearby Dallas and Plano.

This video for new CDL commercial big rig 18 wheel truck drivers explains how I maximize my driving clock time to get the most hours behind the wheel, versus worrying about detention pay etc.
Although I'm new to the business, I already am averaging over 1000 week take home, by focusing on keeping my driving clock available versus staying on duty when I'm held up for any reason at a shipper or receiver.
I learned early in this business that focusing your attention on where the most money is made by you is your best bet, not chasing an hourly figure (detention pay only starts after an hour of sitting, and it averages out horribly if you do the math, versus driving and averaging 24 bucks an hour).
People thinking about getting into this truck driving business need to use common sense and stay focused on the bigger money per hour, not the smaller stuff.

Love road cycling-this is huge in North Texas. On any given day, you can find a group somewhere closeby to ride with and get an excellent workout. Here, I linked up with the Richardson Bike Mart Tour Allen 8:10AM brisk group for a loop around town and then catching the 9:05 fast group. Here, I linked up with the Richardson Bike Mart Tour Allen 8:10AM brisk group for a loop around town and then catching the 9:05 fast group. I calculated the convergence times based upon their route, average speed, distance AND my home location, speed and distance to the meet point. I used my Garmin software course generator in addition to this link, to figure all of this out:
