The Semitic languages are a branch of the Afroasiatic language family originating in the Middle East. Semitic languages are spoken by more than 330 million people across much of Western Asia, North Africa and the Horn of Africa, as well as in large expatriate communities in North America and Europe.
AUSTROASIATIC FAMILY
The Mon–Khmer languages (Austroasiatic languages) are the oldest family in Asia. They include Vietnamese and Khmer (Cambodian)
TAI - KADAI FAMILY
The Tai-Kadai languages (or just Kadai) of southern China spread in historic times into Southeast Asia, where Thai (Siamese) and Lao are official languages.
AUSTRONESIAN FAMILY
The Austronesian languages include the languages of the Philippines and most of the languages of Indonesia (excluding inland New Guinea), such as Malay (Indonesian) and Tagalog (Filipino).
CAUCASIAN FAMILY
Three small families are spoken in the Caucasus: Kartvelian languages, such as Georgian; Northeast Caucasian (Dagestanian languages), such as Chechen; and Northwest Caucasian, such as Circassian. The latter two may be related to each other. The extinct Hurro-Urartian languages may be related as well.

I’m not particularly good at doing a wide range of Asian accents as you can tell from my videos; but if I was, could you tell them apart?
Can YOU tell Asian accents apart?
Or...do they all sound like "ching chong chang" to you?
As racially insensitive that may have been, there are still many people who have that perception of Asian accents.
On the other end, there are people who feel confident at telling Asian accents apart. Mostly Asians.
Anyway, whether you’re an Asian accent novice or an Asian accent expert, here is a test to see just how familiar you REALLY are at Asian accents.
I’ll play 19 short audio clips of 19 Asian accents corresponding to 19 Asian countries. If you want to test yourself, listen to the accents, note down which country you think the accent is from, and at the end of this video, I’ll tell you the answers.
Bonus points if you can figure out whose voice it is. Most of them are famous.
Ok. So, here we go!
In no particular order, here are the 19 Asian countries / regions I cover:
- Japan
- South Korea
- Vietnam
- Malaysia
- Nepal
- Mongolia
- China
- Thailand
- Hong Kong / Southern China
- Cambodia
- Singapore
- Afghanistan
- Pakistan

- Sri Lanka
- Taiwan
- Philippines
* Hong Kong is not a country but have distinct enough accents so I included them. Same can be said about Taiwan if we're going by UN-recognized countries.
*EDIT: I screwed up the Nepal one, sorry guys :(
In my opinion, if you got over 10 right, I think you did pretty well. If you got less than six, you’re probably not Asian. If you got close to 19, that's pretty impressive.
