Kiwamirembe, Queen of Peace
Uganda’s Marian Shrine
Nestled among tea plantations outside Kampala, the hilltop shrine of Kiwamirembe had its roots as a site of prayer for peace during Uganda’s devastating civil wars, and was finally launched in 1989 as a place for spiritual refuge, healing, and thanksgiving for deliverance from the wars. Kiwamirembe means “giver of peace.” ...The shrine draws pilgrims throughout the year, for overnight vigils, daily Masses, (Stations of The Cross) and Good Friday Passion walks. _ Rev. Michael C. Uganda (/juːˈɡændə/ yew-GAN-də or /juːˈɡɑːndə/ yew-GAHN-də), officially the Republic of Uganda, is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered to the east by Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the southwest by Rwanda, and to the south by Tanzania. Uganda is the world's second most populous landlocked country after Ethiopia. The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, shared with Kenya and Tanzania, situating the country in the African Great Lakes region. Uganda also lies within the Nile basin, and has a varied but generally a modified equatorial climate.
Uganda takes its name from the Buganda kingdom, which encompasses a large portion of the south of the country, including the capital Kampala. The people of Uganda were hunter-gatherers until 1,700 to 2,300 years ago, when Bantu-speaking populations migrated to the southern parts of the country.

Good Friday
Good Friday is a Christian religious holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. The holiday is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday, or Easter Friday, though the last term properly refers to the Friday in Easter week.
Good Friday is a widely instituted legal holiday in many national governments around the world, including in most Western countries (especially among Anglican and Catholic nations) as well as in 12 U.S. states. Some governments, such as Germany, have laws prohibiting certain acts, such as dancing and horse racing, that are seen as profaning the solemn nature of the day.
Etymology
The etymology of the term "good" in the context of Good Friday is contested. Some sources claim "good" to simply mean pious or holy, while others contend that it is a corruption of "God Friday". The Oxford English Dictionary supports the first etymology, giving "of a day or season observed as holy by the church" as an archaic sense of good (good, adj. 8c), and providing examples of good tide meaning "Christmas" or "Shrove Tuesday", and Good Wednesday meaning the Wednesday in Holy Week.

Solar eclipse
As seen from the Earth, a solar eclipse is a type of eclipse that occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and the Moon fully or partially blocks ("occults") the Sun. This can happen only at new moon, when the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction as seen from Earth in an alignment referred to as syzygy. In a total eclipse, the disk of the Sun is fully obscured by the Moon. In partial and annular eclipses, only part of the Sun is obscured.
If the Moon were in a perfectly circular orbit, a little closer to the Earth, and in the same orbital plane, there would be total solar eclipses every month. However, the Moon's orbit is inclined (tilted) at more than 5 degrees to the Earth's orbit around the Sun (see ecliptic), so its shadow at new moon usually misses Earth. Earth's orbit is called the ecliptic plane as the Moon's orbit must cross this plane in order for an eclipse (both solar as well as lunar) to occur. In addition, the Moon's actual orbit is elliptical, often taking it far enough away from Earth that its apparent size is not large enough to block the Sun totally. The orbital planes cross each other at a line of nodes resulting in at least two, and up to five, solar eclipses occurring each year; no more than two of which can be total eclipses. However, total solar eclipses are rare at any particular location because totality exists only along a narrow path on the Earth's surface traced by the Moon's shadow or umbra.

Fruits of the Nile currently operates to FairTrade standards and, through rigorous training, monitoring and quality control, is converting the whole supply chain to organic production. It is hoped that organic certification will expand the export markets for Fruits of the Nile, since all in the supply chain and the business are keen to increase production.

Fruits of the Nile is a Ugandan business which produced and exports about 120 tonnes/year of high-quality dried banana and pineapple from its factory in Njeru. The fresh fruit is prepared and dried in simple solar driers by 120 producer groups in rural areas: these groups buy fruit from over 800 farmers and employ about 500 labourers. Fruits of the Nile currently operates to FairTrade standards and, through rigorous training, monitoring and quality control, is converting the whole supply chain to organic production. It is hoped that organic certification will expand the export markets for Fruits of the Nile, since all in the supply chain and the business are keen to increase production.

This is a journey into Kenya’s origins and its uncertain future. We travel along the colony’s iron foundations, the railway lines laid by the British imperialists as they raced to create a passage to Lake Victoria from Mombasa. 120 years later, the same railway is enjoyed by tourists seeking a taste of the vintage African safari, with luxury 1st-class carriages and pressed napkins. To either side of their trammelled way lie the gleaming metropolis of Nairobi, the rolling ranchers’ pastures and the sprawling slums of Kibera.
Shot on SD and 8mm film, this film takes the viewer on an experiential journey through different periods of history and levels of society: we are welcomed by a demented Mau Mau veteran, carefully set on our way by a railway tourist guide, and bade farewell in true Mombasa style by a melancholic Swahili guitarist.
David Cecil’s graduation film (Visual Anthropology, Goldsmiths’, 2009) was fraught with difficulty from the start. His original camera was stolen in Kilifi on the first night of the 2-week shoot, forcing him to shoot on 8mm and then film the rest in 5 days on a locally-sourced replacement. The result is haphazard but was well-received by audiences at Amakula Film Festival (Uganda) and received a nomination for Best Short Documentary in the 2010 Deborshir Festival (Russia).
Note the cameo (@06:10) by celebrated British film-maker Nick Broomfield who we bump into in Nairobi station during the shoot, and also the impressive rooftop graffiti in Kibera (@10:00). For those patient enough to sit through the credits, there is a final word from the film’s most colourful character.

As the setting sun stained the vast wilderness blood red, their guide handed them Masai blankets, traditional weapons and an iced G&T; with freshly cut lime. For a perfect crescendo, they spotted a huge leopard as they drove back to camp, following it for twenty minutes without another human in sight.

After the high mountain driven hunt we will go further South at the very Equator. There, in the hunting mecca of the modern world – Uganda – we will witness an extraordinary hunting achievement. Gary Bogner will be our hunting guide and will show us how to shoot world records with a bow and several arrows. Will he be able in addition to the world record for Watherbuck to get the trophy of the smart warthog – you will find out in the next episode of “Boars and hunters” that is full of adventure and action.

She was awarded an Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for a story she wrote and produced, based on her travels to Uganda with a San Diego humanitarian organization (A story she shot herself)
She was also nominated for an Emmy for her coverage of President Obamas' Inauguration in January 2009. She and her colleague were the only television news team from San Diego to report on the Inauguration from Washington, D.C.
In 2007, Jenny was on the frontlines of the October wildfires that ravaged San Diego. In addition to doing countless live shots for her hometown viewers and affiliates nationwide, she made regular appearances on CNN and Fox.
Jenny is a San Diego native and worked as a reporter/anchor for San Diego 6 News the CW (formerly known as FOX6 News) for six years. Following that, she worked as a reporter at Fox5 News in San Diego until 2012.
Jenny started her career in Fayetteville, Arkansas where she worked as the Weekend Anchor/Reporter for KFSM.
Jenny is a graduate of UCLA with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. Before getting into the news industry, Jenny spent a year working in Europe for an online travel guide, and lists cliff diving in Croatia as one of her favorite experiences! In 2009, Jenny filmed, wrote and produced a series of webisodes highlighting the great things to do and places to stay in Costa Rica.

Since 1992 Baja Jones has logged over 3000 hours observing the whales of Baja, while sitting in pangas, on the various lagoons and ocean waters of Baja California, Mexico. Keith has also logged more than 100,000 miles driving the Baja Highway #1 and the many side roads along the way. We believe our leader is the most knowledgeable person currently working as a gray whale watching guide in Mexico.
His writing and photos have been published in a dozen countries and scores of magazines, newspapers and websites. He corresponds with hundreds of writers, environmental activists, biologists, researchers, scientists, students and other whale enthusiasts each year. Each issue of our newsletter is read by several thousand people. Keith recently wrote the Gray whale section for the “Lonely Planets Guide to Cabo and Baja” and the Baja Desert section for The Sanford Travel Guide.

The year was 1961 and Lorenz had stumbled upon what is now known as the butterfly effect. Perhaps you’ve already heard of the butterfly effect – a very small change in initial conditions that create a significantly different, surprising outcome. He's one of Uganda's most popular DJs / music promoters, and he goes by the name of DJ Erycom, a veteran of local music, with a degree in Information Technology and multimedia with sound engineering. Erycom has spent years fine-tuning his music winning formula, in the only way he knows how, by jet-setting around the globe and feeling the vibe at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, dispensing musical epiphanies wherever he plays. A native of Kampala, Uganda, he always knows how to harness the sun, beach and the clubs in order to get the most out of his audiences, and Erycom's evolving appreciation of the "feel good factor", has brought him commercial success globally.
DJ Erycom started his deejay career in 2007, in the dance clubs of Kampala, playing gigs at different places. DJ Erycom became resident DJ at club Diplomat in 2008 and until he joined Club Volts in 2009 as a house DJ spinning every Friday and Wednesday. In the year 2009 after working with NBS Tv, DJ Erycom joined 87.7 fm Ugandan Radio Dotcom uptodate where he serves as the music director. Erycom also works with WBS Tv as a music analyst and VJ. He won the East Africa DJ Award in September 2008 beating over 9 contestants and in 2009, DJ Erycom contested in the Africa DJ awards and he was beaten by Nigeria's DJ Kennel.
While in Egypt in March 2010, Erycom contested with 3 other DJs from Uganda and he won the Nile Spin master award which he later lost to Egypt's DJ Alish in march 2011. Luck was on his side and he later made it in South Africa mid 2011 as East Africa's DJ of the year in the Africa DJ awards representing Uganda alone. In his music career, DJ Erycom has since worked with top East African artistes including: Jose Chameleone, Abdu Mulaasi, Babirye, Goodlyfe Boys, Juluie Mutesasira, David Lutalo, Moureen Nantume, Bobi Wine, Bushoke, Juliana, Betty Mpologoma, Kiwookoboyz among others. Erycom has therefore turned out to be one of Uganda's remix masters who spices up artistes songs and turns them out to be more exciting and sweet.
