Walter Barnes (July 8,1905, Vicksburg, Mississippi - April 23,1940, Natchez, Mississippi) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist and bandleader.
Barnes grew up in Chicago and studied under Franz Schoepp in addition to attending the Chicago Musical College and the American Conservatory of Music. He led his own bands from the early 1920s in addition to playing with Detroit Shannon and his Royal Creolians. After Shannon's retinue became dissatisfied with his leadership, Barnes took control of this group as well. He played mostly in Chicago, though the band did hold a residency at the Savoy Ballroom in New York City as well. His band recorded in 1928-29 for Brunswick Records. He toured the American South in the 1930s to considerable success, touring there yearly; by 1938 his ensemble included 16 members.
Barnes was one of the victims of the Rhythm Club Fire in Natchez, Mississippi on April 23, 1940. He played in an eight-piece band that night when the club caught fire; he had the group continue playing the song "Marie" in order to keep the crowd from stampeding out of the building. All of the band's members, including Paul Stott and vocalist Juanita Avery, were among the 201 victims of the fire. Barnes's death was repeatedly immortalized in song thereafter.

In April 1940, Walter Barnes and his band played a gig at the Rhythm Nightclub in Natchez, Mississippi. 557 patrons and the band members and crew were in the building when a fire broke out quickly burning the inside of the building. There was only one door out and 212 people died, were crushed, or suffocated as the frantic crowd tried to push through the door. Barnes and his men kept playing Marie to try and calm the frantic crowd. Barnes and 10 of his band members died in the disaster. This video commemorates that event to the music of Barnes' Birmingham Bertha from the 1929 movie On With the Show. The film master was destroyed but a 4 minute clip of Ethel Waters singing "Am I Blue" from that film can be seen on this channel.

The building had been decorated with Spanish Moss and sprayed with a petroleum bug killer which was as flammable as gasoline. There was only one small door to exit and 212 people were crushed, burned, or suffocated as the crowd tried to push through the door. Barnes and his men kept playing Marie to calm the crowd but as the fire quickly spread to the back of the hall where the bandstand was located, Barnes and 10 of his men died. The band was owned by Al Capone and he attended Walter Barnes' funeral. A marker on the Mississippi in Natchez names all 212 African Americans who died in the fire but omits the names of dozens of whites, many teens, who were not supposed to be in the segregated dance hall, and were quietly removed by their families. This video commemorates that event to the music of Birmingham Bertha from the '29 movie "On With the Show".

Walter Barnes Jr. & Men of Ministry - U Wait The unique and distinctive style of Walter Barnes, Jr. and Men of Ministry, remind you of true musicianship, in an artistic craft that is only cultivated by hard work, persistence, study, and above all, God's anointing. Consisting of nine, gifted Christian young men, who love Jesus, including (1) preacher and a 24 year old pastor, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry, are truly unique in this day, in that they write, sing, play, and produce their own music. Singing with his parents since he was a little boy, world renowned Walter Barnes, Jr., knew that he was anointed to sing and play. He is a dynamically skilled, multifaceted musician, whose instrumental portfolio includes bass, guitar, and drums. His salvation and love for God, has encouraged him to utilize his talents to minister through gospel music. Set aside for such a time as this to fulfill his God given abilities, he formed Men of Ministry (formerly known as All God's Children) in 1989, to spread the unadulterated Word of God through song. Although many setbacks have come to deter their course, they stand on God's word. Having been faced with death within the group, pressure from drugs and alcohol, and many other challenging experiences that the enemy meant for bad, their foundation in Jesus Christ strengthens their faith to know that, "All things work together for good...", and they have remained determined to keep fighting, and have used those experiences in their writing, in order to be used for God's glory, and minister to someone who may be experiencing similar situations. These young men pressed toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Phil 3:14), and in 2005, the Lord blessed Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry to record their first nationally-released album entitled, Appointed Time. This compilation has 13 original tracks that intertwine traditional and contemporary gospel music. It is power-packed and is destined to grasp the attention of people, young and old, from all walks of life. In 2007, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry signed with JTA Productions & Management out of Summerville, SC under the leadership and direction of Mr. Jonathan T. Adams (a native of Cleveland, Ohio), who is currently the group's manager. Within one year of signing with JTA Productions & Management, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry appeared on three major television networks, including The Word Network, TV-One and BET (Black Entertainment Television). Far from novice, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry has performed and/or recorded with national recording artists such as, Yolanda Adams, Karen Clark-Sheard, Wynton Marsalis, Ruben Studdard,Will Downing, Gerald Levert, The O' Jays, Anthony Hamilton, Avant, Musiq Soul Child, Brian McKnight, Frank McComb, Kim Burrell, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, MTV's P. Diddy's Making His Band, Johnny Gill, The Rude Boys, Anita Baker, Lala Hathaway, Tramaine Hawkins, and The Canton Spirituals, to name a few. Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry has appeared on National Syndicated television shows such as, Bobby Jones Gospel and The Gospel of Music with Jeff Majors. Walter Barnes (July 8,1905, Vicksburg, Mississippi - April 23,1940, Natchez, Mississippi) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist and bandleader. Barnes grew up in Chicago and studied under Franz Schoepp in addition to attending the Chicago Musical College and the American Conservatory of Music. He led his own bands from the early 1920s in addition to playing with Detroit Shannon and his Royal Creolians. After Shannon's retinue became dissatisfied with his leadership, Barnes took control of this group as well. He played mostly in Chicago, though the band did hold a residency at the Savoy Ballroom in New York City as well. His band recorded in 1928-29 for Brunswick Records. In April 1940, Walter Barnes and his band played a gig at the Rhythm Nightclub in Natchez, Mississippi. 557 patrons and the band members and crew were in the building when a fire broke out quickly burning the inside of the building. There was only one door out and 212 people died, were crushed, or suffocated as the frantic crowd tried to push through the door. Barnes and his men kept playing Marie to try and calm the frantic crowd. Barnes and 10 of his band members died in the disaster. This video commemorates that event to the music of Barnes' Birmingham Bertha from the 1929 movie On With the Show. In April, 1940, Walter Barnes and His Band played a gig at the Rhythm Nightclub in Natchez, Mississippi. 557 patrons and the band members and crew were in the building when a fire broke out and quickly burned the inside of the building. The building had been decorated with Spanish Moss and sprayed with a petroleum bug killer which was as flammable as gasoline. There was only one small door to exit and 212 people were crushed, burned, or suffocated as the crowd tried to push through the door. He toured the American South in the 1930s to considerable success, touring there yearly; by 1938 his ensemble included 16 members.
Barnes was one of the victims of the Rhythm Club Fire in Natchez, Mississippi on April 23, 1940. He played in an eight-piece band that night when the club caught fire; he had the group continue playing the song "Marie" in order to keep the crowd from stampeding out of the building. All of the band's members, including Paul Stott and vocalist Juanita Avery, were among the 201 victims of the fire. Barnes's death was repeatedly immortalized in song thereafter.

In April, 1940, Walter Barnes and His Band played a gig at the Rhythm Nightclub in Natchez, Mississippi. 557 patrons and the band members and crew were in the building when a fire broke out and quickly burned the inside of the building. The building had been decorated with Spanish Moss and sprayed with a petroleum bug killer which was as flammable as gasoline. There was only one small door to exit and 212 people were crushed, burned, or suffocated as the crowd tried to push through the door. Barnes and his men kept playing Marie to calm the crowd but as the fire quickly spread to the back of the hall where the bandstand was located, Barnes and 10 of his men died. The band was owned by Al Capone and he attended Walter Barnes' funeral. A marker on the Mississippi in Natchez names all 212 African Americans who died in the fire but omits the names of dozens of whites, many teens, who were not supposed to be in the segregated dance hall, and were quietly removed by their families. This video commemorates that event to the music of Birmingham Bertha from the '29 movie "On With the Show".

His salvation and love for God, has encouraged him to utilize his talents to minister through gospel music. Set aside for such a time as this to fulfill his God given abilities, he formed Men of Ministry (formerly known as All God's Children) in 1989, to spread the unadulterated Word of God through song. Although many setbacks have come to deter their course, they stand on God's word. Having been faced with death within the group, pressure from drugs and alcohol, and many other challenging experiences that the enemy meant for bad, their foundation in Jesus Christ strengthens their faith to know that, "All things work together for good...", and they have remained determined to keep fighting, and have used those experiences in their writing, in order to be used for God's glory, and minister to someone who may be experiencing similar situations. These young men pressed toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Phil 3:14), and in 2005, the Lord blessed Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry to record their first nationally-released album entitled, Appointed Time. This compilation has 13 original tracks that intertwine traditional and contemporary gospel music. It is power-packed and is destined to grasp the attention of people, young and old, from all walks of life. In 2007, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry signed with JTA Productions & Management out of Summerville, SC under the leadership and direction of Mr. Jonathan T. Adams (a native of Cleveland, Ohio), who is currently the group's manager. Within one year of signing with JTA Productions & Management, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry appeared on three major television networks, including The Word Network, TV-One and BET (Black Entertainment Television). Walter Goodman's Interview
Walter Goodman was recruited into the Special Engineer Detachment at Los Alamos in 1943. Goodman worked as an electrical engineer on the implosion bomb and helped design equipment to measure the efficiency of an atomic blast. In July 1945, Goodman deployed to Tinian Island to help prepare the Fat Man bomb to be dropped on Japan. On August 9, 1945, he witnessed the bombing of Nagasaki from the instrumentation aircraft The Great Artiste and took motion pictures of the mushroom cloud above the city. In this interview, he recounts the Nagasaki mission and describes the disagreement between American and foreign-born scientists at Los Alamos about sharing information about atomic weapons. Walter Barnes and his Royal Creolians - How Long, How Long Blues (1928)
Walter Barnes (July 8,1905, Vicksburg, Mississippi - April 23,1940, Natchez, Mississippi) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist and bandleader. Barnes grew up in Chicago and studied under Franz Schoepp in addition to attending the Chicago Musical College and the American Conservatory of Music. He led his own bands from the early 1920s in addition to playing with Detroit Shannon and his Royal Creolians. After Shannon's retinue became dissatisfied with his leadership, Barnes took control of this group as well. He played mostly in Chicago, though the band did hold a residency at the Savoy Ballroom in New York City as well. His band recorded in 1928-29 for Brunswick Records. He toured the American South in the 1930s to considerable success, touring there yearly; by 1938 his ensemble i...

In April 1940, Walter Barnes and his band played a gig at the Rhythm Nightclub in Natchez, Mississippi. 557 patrons and the band members and crew were in the building when a fire broke out quickly burning the inside of the building. There was only one door out and 212 people died, were crushed, or suffocated as the frantic crowd tried to push through the door. Barnes and his men kept playing Marie to try and calm the frantic crowd. Barnes and 10 of his band members died in the disaster. This video commemorates that event to the music of Barnes' Birmingham Bertha from the 1929 movie On With the Show. The film master was destroyed but a 4 minute clip of Ethel Waters singing "Am I Blue" from that film can be seen on this channel. Brunswick A8535, July 25, 1929. Chicago, Illinois.

In April, 1940, Walter Barnes and His Band played a gig at the Rhythm Nightclub in Natchez, Mississippi. 557 patrons and the band members and crew were in the building when a fire broke out and quickly burned the inside of the building. The building had been decorated with Spanish Moss and sprayed with a petroleum bug killer which was as flammable as gasoline. There was only one small door to exit and 212 people were crushed, burned, or suffocated as the crowd tried to push through the door. He led his own bands from the early 1920s in addition to playing with Detroit Shannon and his Royal Creolians. After Shannon's retinue became dissatisfied with his leadership, Barnes took control of this group as well. He played mostly in Chicago, though the band did hold a residency at the Savoy Ballroom in New York City as well. His band recorded in 1928-29 for Brunswick Records. He toured the American South in the 1930s to considerable success, touring there yearly; by 1938 his ensemble included 16 members.
Barnes was one of the victims of the Rhythm Club Fire in Natchez, Mississippi on April 23, 1940. He played in an eight-piece band that night when the club caught fire; he had the group continue playing the song "Marie" in order to keep the crowd from stampeding out of the building. All of the band's members, including Paul Stott and vocalist Juanita Avery, were among the 201 victims of the fire. Barnes's death was repeatedly immortalized in song thereafter.

Set aside for such a time as this to fulfill his God given abilities, he formed Men of Ministry (formerly known as All God's Children) in 1989, to spread the unadulterated Word of God through song. Although many setbacks have come to deter their course, they stand on God's word. Having been faced with death within the group, pressure from drugs and alcohol, and many other challenging experiences that the enemy meant for bad, their foundation in Jesus Christ strengthens their faith to know that, "All things work together for good...", and they have remained determined to keep fighting, and have used those experiences in their writing, in order to be used for God's glory, and minister to someone who may be experiencing similar situations. These young men pressed toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Phil 3:14), and in 2005, the Lord blessed Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry to record their first nationally-released album entitled, Appointed Time. This compilation has 13 original tracks that intertwine traditional and contemporary gospel music. It is power-packed and is destined to grasp the attention of people, young and old, from all walks of life. In 2007, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry signed with JTA Productions & Management out of Summerville, SC under the leadership and direction of Mr. Jonathan T. Adams (a native of Cleveland, Ohio), who is currently the group's manager. Within one year of signing with JTA Productions & Management, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry appeared on three major television networks, including The Word Network, TV-One and BET (Black Entertainment Television). Walter Barnes Jr. & Men of Ministry - U Wait
The unique and distinctive style of Walter Barnes, Jr. and Men of Ministry, remind you of true musicianship, in an artistic craft that is only cultivated by hard work, persistence, study, and above all, God's anointing. Consisting of nine, gifted Christian young men, who love Jesus, including (1) preacher and a 24 year old pastor, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry, are truly unique in this day, in that they write, sing, play, and produce their own music. Singing with his parents since he was a little boy, world renowned Walter Barnes, Jr., knew that he was anointed to sing and play. He is a dynamically skilled, multifaceted musician, whose instrumental portfolio includes bass, guitar, and drums. His salvation and love for God, has encouraged him to utilize his talents to minister through gospel music. Set aside for such a time as this to fulfill his God given abilities, he formed Men of Ministry (formerly known as All God's Children) in 1989, to spread the unadulterated Word of God through song. Although many setbacks have come to deter their course, they stand on God's word. Having been faced with death within the group, pressure from drugs and alcohol, and many other challenging experiences that the enemy meant for bad, their foundation in Jesus Christ strengthens their faith to know that, "All things work together for good...", and they have remained determined to keep fighting, and have used those experiences in their writing, in order to be used for God's glory, and minister to someone who may be experiencing similar situations. These young men pressed toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Phil 3:14), and in 2005, the Lord blessed Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry to record their first nationally-released album entitled, Appointed Time. This compilation has 13 original tracks that intertwine traditional and contemporary gospel music. It is power-packed and is destined to grasp the attention of people, young and old, from all walks of life. In 2007, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry signed with JTA Productions & Management out of Summerville, SC under the leadership and direction of Mr. Jonathan T. Adams (a native of Cleveland, Ohio), who is currently the group's manager. Within one year of signing with JTA Productions & Management, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry appeared on three major television networks, including The Word Network, TV-One and BET (Black Entertainment Television). Far from novice, Walter Barnes, Jr. & Men of Ministry has performed and/or recorded with national recording artists such as, Yolanda Adams, Karen Clark-Sheard, Wynton Marsalis, Ruben Studdard,Will Downing, Gerald Levert, The O' Jays, Anthony Hamilton, Avant, Musiq Soul Child, Brian McKnight, Frank McComb, Kim Burrell, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, MTV's P. Handlung:
Der Bandit „Ölprinz" will dem Bankier Duncan eine gefälschte Ölquelle andrehen. Dabei steht ihm allerdings ein Treck Siedler im Wege, die sich ausgerechnet in der Gegend niederlassen wollen. Der Ölprinz lässt den Scout der Siedler durch ein Mitglied der Finders-Bande austauschen. Diesem kommen Old Surehand und Winnetou auf die Spur und können den Treck warnen.
Winnetou überzeugt den Navajo-Häuptling Nitsas-ini von der friedlichen Natur der Siedler, und der lässt sie mit Old Wabble als Führer ungehindert durch sein Gebiet zu einem Zwischenstopp an den Chinla-River ziehen.
Auf dem Weg zu den Komantschen wird Old Surehand von den Finders-Banditen in eine Falle gelockt, aus der ihn Winnetou allerdings retten kann. Am Chinla-River machen sich die Siedler, unter ihnen die Witwe Ebersbach, der Kantor Hampel, der Falschspieler Richard Forsythe und der zwielichtige Geschäftsmann Bergmann, für eine Übernachtung bereit, als die Flinders-Banditen angreifen. Durch die rechtzeitig eintreffenden Winnetou und Old Surehand kann der Angriff aber abgewehrt werden.
Nachdem der Überfall nicht geklappt hat, lässt sich der Ölprinz etwas Neues einfallen. Er ermordet den Sohn des Häuptlings Mokaschi und macht bei den Indianern dafür die Siedler verantwortlich. Die Indianer kesseln die Siedler am Fluss ein, lassen sich aber überreden, mit ihrem Angriff zu warten, wenn Old Surehand ihnen den wahren Mörder innerhalb eines Tages ausliefert. Der macht sich auf die Verfolgung des Ölprinzen, der inzwischen dem Bankier Duncan das Geld für die gefälschte Ölquelle abgeknöpft hat und ihn mit einer Geröll-Lavine in der Öl-Höhle eingeschlossen hat. Old Surehand kann den Ölprinz nach einer kurzen Verfolgung und einem Kampf stellen und fesseln.
Die Indianer sind mittlerweile ungeduldig geworden und beginnen ihren Angriff auf die Siedler. Die ersten Wagen stehen bereits in Flammen, und Winnetou will Frauen und Kinder auf dem reissenden Fluss mit einem Floss in Sicherheit bringen. Dabei stürzen sie allerdings in das Wasser, und erst durch das Eintreffen von Old Surehand werden sie gerettet. Der mitgebrachte Ölprinz wird an die Indianer ausgeliefert und erhält von ihnen seine gerechte Strafe.

Im Grenzgebiet zwischen New Mexico und Texas treibt die berüchtigte Geier-Bande ihr Unwesen. Als die Banditen die Farm des Bärenjägers Baumann überfallen und seine Familie ermorden, lenken sie den Verdacht auf den Indianerstamm der Schoschonen. Doch Winnetou und Old Surehand kommen der Intrige auf die Schliche. Um ein sinnloses Blutvergießen zu verhindern, müssen die Freunde der Bande, die bereits den nächsten Überfall plant, das Handwerk legen. Für Winnetou und Old Surehand beginnt ein Wettlauf gegen die Zeit.
Im Grenzgebiet von New Mexico und Texas liegt der Llano Estacado - eine Gebirgsregion, die von der berüchtigten Geier-Bande beherrscht wird. Immer wieder rauben die Banditen unter Führung des brutalen Preston (Sieghardt Rupp) die vorbeiziehenden Siedlerfamilien aus und provozieren Auseinandersetzungen mit dem Indianerstamm der Schoschonen. So auch, als sie die Farm des Bärenjägers Baumann (Walter Barnes) überfallen. Als Old Surehand (Stewart Granger), sein kauziger Freund Old Wabble (Paddy Fox) und die junge Diamantenhändler-Tochter Annie (Elke Sommer) auf der Farm eintreffen, finden sie ein Bild der Verwüstung vor - gnadenlos wurde Baumanns Familie von der Geier-Bande ermordet. Dabei hat die Bande die Spuren so geschickt gelegt, dass der Verdacht zunächst auf die Schoschonen fällt.
Die Intrige scheint aufzugehen: Blind vor Trauer und Zorn beschuldigt Baumann, der während des Überfalls mit seinem Freund Winnetou (Pierre Brice) und seinem Sohn Martin (Götz George) auf der Jagd war, den Schoschonenhäuptling Wokadeh (Gojko Mitic) des Mordes. In dieser angespannten Situation können auch Winnetous und Surehands Vermittlungsversuche nicht mehr helfen - der zutiefst gekränkte Wokadeh ist entschlossen, sich an Baumann zu rächen.
Unterdessen gelingt es Winnetou und Surehand, das Intrigenspiel der Ganoven zu entlarven. Dabei finden sie heraus, dass Preston und seine Bande einen Siedlertreck in einen tödlichen Hinterhalt locken wollen. Winnetou, Surehand, Baumann und Wabble reiten auf getrennten Wegen los, um den Plan zu vereiteln und die wahren Mörder von Baumanns Familie zu überführen. Sie hoffen, dadurch auch Wokadeh zu besänftigen. Kurz darauf fallen Annie und Martin der Geier-Bande in die Hände. Baumann und Surehand werden von den Schoschonen gefangen genommen.

Doch Winnetou und Old Surehand kommen der Intrige auf die Schliche. Um ein sinnloses Blutvergießen zu verhindern, müssen die Freunde der Bande, die bereits den nächsten Überfall plant, das Handwerk legen. Für Winnetou und Old Surehand beginnt ein Wettlauf gegen die Zeit.
Im Grenzgebiet von New Mexico und Texas liegt der Llano Estacado - eine Gebirgsregion, die von der berüchtigten Geier-Bande beherrscht wird. Immer wieder rauben die Banditen unter Führung des brutalen Preston (Sieghardt Rupp) die vorbeiziehenden Siedlerfamilien aus und provozieren Auseinandersetzungen mit dem Indianerstamm der Schoschonen. So auch, als sie die Farm des Bärenjägers Baumann (Walter Barnes) überfallen. Als Old Surehand (Stewart Granger), sein kauziger Freund Old Wabble (Paddy Fox) und die junge Diamantenhändler-Tochter Annie (Elke Sommer) auf der Farm eintreffen, finden sie ein Bild der Verwüstung vor - gnadenlos wurde Baumanns Familie von der Geier-Bande ermordet. Dabei hat die Bande die Spuren so geschickt gelegt, dass der Verdacht zunächst auf die Schoschonen fällt.
Die Intrige scheint aufzugehen: Blind vor Trauer und Zorn beschuldigt Baumann, der während des Überfalls mit seinem Freund Winnetou (Pierre Brice) und seinem Sohn Martin (Götz George) auf der Jagd war, den Schoschonenhäuptling Wokadeh (Gojko Mitic) des Mordes. In dieser angespannten Situation können auch Winnetous und Surehands Vermittlungsversuche nicht mehr helfen - der zutiefst gekränkte Wokadeh ist entschlossen, sich an Baumann zu rächen.
Unterdessen gelingt es Winnetou und Surehand, das Intrigenspiel der Ganoven zu entlarven. Dabei finden sie heraus, dass Preston und seine Bande einen Siedlertreck in einen tödlichen Hinterhalt locken wollen. Winnetou, Surehand, Baumann und Wabble reiten auf getrennten Wegen los, um den Plan zu vereiteln und die wahren Mörder von Baumanns Familie zu überführen. Sie hoffen, dadurch auch Wokadeh zu besänftigen. Kurz darauf fallen Annie und Martin der Geier-Bande in die Hände. Baumann und Surehand werden von den Schoschonen gefangen genommen.
