Elodia is the sixth album by German duet Lacrimosa.
Elodia is a concept album and a rock opera, divided into three acts. The first act describes a love that is slowly being overwhelmed; the second act describes the act of separation itself, while the third act begins with a requiem, "Sanctus", before ending on a note of hope.
Elodia was an important point in the development of Lacrimosa's music into more classical areas, with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Rosenberg Ensemble and the Hamburg State Opera contributing to the orchestral side. "Sanctus" is a particular example of this, as it is based on the Christian liturgy of the same name, and dominated by the choral vocals of the Rosenberg Ensemble. It is not entirely an orchestral work, as it includes a section of Tilo Wolff's vocals and a guitar solo; it did, however, pave the way for the track "Kyrie" on Lacrimosa's eighth album Echos, which was entirely a classical work.
The song "The Turning Point" starts with Anne Nurmi saying a small poem in Finnish. The poem is "Poutaiset pilvet haihtuvat. Katoan nopeasti tuulten mukana, kuin tämä uni, jossa en enää sinua tavoita", and roughly translates to "The white clouds are fading. I disappear quickly with the winds, as this dream, in which I no longer reach you".
The German Terrorverlag magazine wrote a positive review that lauded the sentimental lyrics and Anne Nurmi's expressive vocals. Especially "Turning Point" is seen as a review of Nurmi's inner self. The author concluded that the album was definitely a great step in the band's evolution and awarded the album ten out of ten points.
Elodia stayed in the German album charts for ten weeks, peaking at position 12.

Story behind the song
Hello/Lacrimosa (or "Chello," as it has affectionately been called in the studio) is a musical experiment bridging 18th-century spiritualism and 21st-century secularism. Imagine Mozart and Adele in the same room in an intense co-write session, quill and pen in hand, respectively. Picturing this hypothetical hangout helped to spark the creative combination of the two.

As you can hear, both tunes' divergent traits presented challenges. One wallows in a wide, painstakingly minor 12/8 time and the other drives a poignant bi-polar major/minor common time. One draws its power from the fullness of a grand chorus and orchestra, the other from the isolation of a lone voice and piano. One conforms to age-old counterpart canon and musical theory, while the other is conveyed via verse/chorus pop song parlance. However, they share the same fundamental feeling -- "Lacrimosa" (meaning "weeping" or "tearful") mournfully bemoans spiritual death, while "Hello" gripes about relationship regrets. Different centuries. Different realms. Same emotion. Perhaps we aren't as far from our predecessors as we think we are.
You'll hear towards the end of the tune an attempt by both motifs to meet in the middle as the two textured melodies intertwine. In their respective stories both plead for reconciliation. Neither seemed to find it apart, but together they sing of a second chance.
The sounds you hear were created by 100 tracks of acoustic and electric cello, an instrument that has been emoting for centuries – an apt candidate for the task of tying together "Hellocrimosa" (our alternate affectionate title).
This video was filmed at one of our favorite locations: Tuacahn Amphitheatre, utilizing different patterns and settings of giant mirrors, diffused light, and some very cold fog. How is the camera not reflected in the mirrors? Simple. Magic!

Karl Böhm
Karl August Leopold Böhm (28 August 1894 in Graz – 14 August 1981 in Salzburg) was an Austrian conductor. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century.
Life and career
Education
The son of a lawyer, Karl Böhm studied law and earned a doctorate in this subject before entering the music conservatory in his home town of Graz, Austria. (His father was originally a Sudeten German from Egerland, Bohemia, while his mother was from Alsace.) He later enrolled at the Vienna Conservatory, where he studied under Eusebius Mandyczewski, a friend of Johannes Brahms.
Munich, Darmstadt, Hamburg
In 1917 Karl Böhm became a rehearsal assistant in his home town, in 1919 the assistant director of music, and in 1920 the senior director of music. On the recommendation of Karl Muck, Bruno Walter engaged him at Munich's Bavarian State Opera in 1921. An early assignment here was Mozart's Entführung, with a cast including Maria Ivogun, Paul Bender and Richard Tauber [Source: Karl Böhm, Ich erinnere mich genau, Zurich, 1968]. In 1927 he was appointed as chief musical director in Darmstadt. From 1931 to 1934 he fulfilled the same function at the Hamburg opera company and was appointed professor.

D minor
D minor is a minor scale based on D, consisting of the pitches D, E, F, G, A, B♭, and C. In the harmonic minor, the C is raised to C♯. Its key signature has one flat (see below: Scales and keys).
Its relative major is F major, and its parallel major is D major. D minor is one of the two flat-signature keys whose melodic and harmonic scale variations require the addition of a written sharp; the other is G minor.
Of Domenico Scarlatti's 555 keyboard sonatas, 151 are in minor keys, and with 32 sonatas, D minor is the most often chosen minor key. Nigel Tufnel, one of the members of the musical spoof megagroup Spinal Tap speaks of "a musical trilogy I'm working on in D minor which is the saddest of all keys, I find. People weep instantly when they hear it, and I don't know why."
J. S. Bach's entire The Art of Fugue is in D minor. According to Alfred Einstein, the history of tuning has led D minor to be associated with counterpoint and chromaticism (for example, the chromatic fourth), and cites Mozart's chromatic fugue in D minor. Mozart's Requiem is also written primarily in D minor, as is the aria "Der Hölle Rache". Of the two piano concertos that Mozart wrote in a minor key, one of them is in D minor, No. 20, K. 466. Sibelius's Violin Concerto is in D minor, as is Schumann's. The tonality of D minor held special significance for Helene and Alban Berg.

Lacrimosa is part of the Dies Irae sequence in the Requiem mass. Its text comes from the 18th and 19th stanzas of the sequence. Many composers, including Mozart, Berlioz, and Verdi have set the text as a discrete movement of the Requiem.

Elodia is the sixth album by German duet Lacrimosa.
Elodia is a concept album and a rock opera, divided into three acts. The first act describes a love that is slowly being overwhelmed; the second act describes the act of separation itself, while the third act begins with a requiem, "Sanctus", before ending on a note of hope.
Elodia was an important point in the development of Lacrimosa's music into more classical areas, with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Rosenberg Ensemble and the Hamburg State Opera contributing to the orchestral side. "Sanctus" is a particular example of this, as it is based on the Christian liturgy of the same name, and dominated by the choral vocals of the Rosenberg Ensemble. It is not entirely an orchestral work, as it includes a section of Tilo Wolff's vocals and a guitar solo; it did, however, pave the way for the track "Kyrie" on Lacrimosa's eighth album Echos, which was entirely a classical work.
The song "The Turning Point" starts with Anne Nurmi saying a small poem in Finnish. The poem is "Poutaiset pilvet haihtuvat. Katoan nopeasti tuulten mukana, kuin tämä uni, jossa en enää sinua tavoita", and roughly translates to "The white clouds are fading. I disappear quickly with the winds, as this dream, in which I no longer reach you".
The German Terrorverlag magazine wrote a positive review that lauded the sentimental lyrics and Anne Nurmi's expressive vocals. Especially "Turning Point" is seen as a review of Nurmi's inner self. The author concluded that the album was definitely a great step in the band's evolution and awarded the album ten out of ten points.
Elodia stayed in the German album charts for ten weeks, peaking at position 12.

Story behind the song
Hello/Lacrimosa (or "Chello," as it has affectionately been called in the studio) is a musical experiment bridging 18th-century spiritualism and 21st-century secularism. Imagine Mozart and Adele in the same room in an intense co-write session, quill and pen in hand, respectively. Picturing this hypothetical hangout helped to spark the creative combination of the two.

As you can hear, both tunes' divergent traits presented challenges. One wallows in a wide, painstakingly minor 12/8 time and the other drives a poignant bi-polar major/minor common time. One draws its power from the fullness of a grand chorus and orchestra, the other from the isolation of a lone voice and piano. One conforms to age-old counterpart canon and musical theory, while the other is conveyed via verse/chorus pop song parlance. However, they share the same fundamental feeling -- "Lacrimosa" (meaning "weeping" or "tearful") mournfully bemoans spiritual death, while "Hello" gripes about relationship regrets. Different centuries. Different realms. Same emotion. Perhaps we aren't as far from our predecessors as we think we are.
You'll hear towards the end of the tune an attempt by both motifs to meet in the middle as the two textured melodies intertwine. In their respective stories both plead for reconciliation. Neither seemed to find it apart, but together they sing of a second chance.
The sounds you hear were created by 100 tracks of acoustic and electric cello, an instrument that has been emoting for centuries – an apt candidate for the task of tying together "Hellocrimosa" (our alternate affectionate title).
This video was filmed at one of our favorite locations: Tuacahn Amphitheatre, utilizing different patterns and settings of giant mirrors, diffused light, and some very cold fog. How is the camera not reflected in the mirrors? Simple. Magic!
