On this date in 1982, Gene Loves Jezebel released their debut record, an EP called Shaving My Neck. Aside from the title track, it included "Sun And Insanity", "Machismo" and "Glad To Be Alive". None of the tracks appeared on their debut album, Promise, though all were added to the album when it was re-released on CD. The Porthcawl, Wales post punk/goth band is still together but as two separate bands. Twin brothers Jay and Michael Ashton are feuding and own rights to the band's name in different countries so...the band lives on...times two.

On this date in 1982, Peter Godwin released his third single, "Images Of Heaven". The B side was "Spoken Images". The A side appeared on his first EP, Dance Emotions, a six song debut. The B side was left off. In the U.S., the single was released as a 12 inch with different additional songs. The A side was coupled with "Torch Song For The Heroine" and two different versions of "Emotional Disguise" (one with vocals, one without). All three of these songs (only the vocal version of "Emotional Disguise") were included on Dance Emotions in some shape or form (the EP consisted of, for the most part, extended or re-mixed versions of his songs). The German born new wave singer has not released much since 1983.

In May of 1982, The Sound released their third single, "Hot House". It was backed by a live track called "New Dark Age". Neither track appeared on an album, though the studio version of the B side did appear on their second album, From The Lion's Mouth. When re-released on CD, the A side was added as a bonus to that album. The London post-punk band had originally been called The Outsiders. They disbanded in 1988 after releasing six albums and several singles and EP's. Lead singer and songwriter Adrian Borland committed suicide in 1999.

On this date in 1981, Chrome released their fifth album, Blood On The Moon. There were no singles released from the album. Chrome was a San Francisco post punk band consisting of Helios Creed and Damon Edge. They split in 1983 but Damon kept the band's name and continued to record with other musicians under that name until his death in 1995. After that, Helios reclaimed the name and has recorded under Chrome ever since.

On this date in 1980, Jayne County released their first album under their new name, Rock 'N' Roll Resurrection. It was a live recording. The New York City punk band had begun life as The Electric Chairs and later Wayne County and The Electric Chairs when Wayne's notoriety became even bigger than the band. The Georgian born transvestite would become Jayne County in 1980. There has always been debate as to whether his natural equipment was surgically altered.

She had previously been recorded as a member of London punk/powerpop band, the Drug Addix, where she was known as Mandy Doubt. Later, she became a member of The Pogues. The former Stiff Records recording artist from Croydon, England recorded on and off after 1983. She died in a boating accident on December 18, 2000.

On this date in 1977, Cock Sparrer released their debut single, "Runnin' Riot". It was backed by "Sister Suzie". Neither song appeared on an album. As a matter of fact, the band, in its original incarnation, only released two singles before breaking up in 1978. They re-formed in 1982 after some of their songs found their way into Oi! compilations and started recording and playing again. The London punk/Oi! band has been on and off since. Despite the fact that they had not released an album prior to their original breakup, they did have a self-titled album planned that included both tracks on their debut single. It wasn't released until years later.

On this date in 1976, The 101'ers released their one and only single (while still a band). The A side was "Keys To Your Heart". The B side was "Five Star Rock 'N' Roll Patrol". The group did not release an album while together but a posthumous album called Elgin Avenue Breakdown was released in 1981. It included the A side but not the B side. That would be added when the album was re-released on CD. Their lead singer was Woody Mellor. Ring a bell? How about Joe Strummer? Yes, Woody Mellor was the name that The Clash frontman went by while in The 101'ers. This debut single would be re-released in 1981 as would a second single from the archives, "Sweet Revenge".

On this date in 1982, Colin Newman released his second solo album, Provisionally Entitled The Singing Fish. There were twelve songs, all called "Fish" and sequentially numbered. None of the "Fish" were released as singles. The guitarist and vocalist for punk/post punk band Wire did not slow down when the band was put on hiatus. He released a series of solo albums before rejoining the band when it became active again. Colin Newman's solo work was more experimental than Wire's sound.

There was also a 4 song EP that added "Just A Memory" and "Ghost Train" to the U.K. version. The A side was the only song initially on an album. It appeared on his fourth album, Get Happy!! All the other songs except "Wednesday Week" were added as bonus tracks to Get Happy!! when it was re-released on CD. "Wednesday Week" was added as a bonus to his third album, Armed Forces. The single reached the #36 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The London punk/new wave singer is still active.

On this date in 1981, Bow Wow Wow released their fourth single, "Chihuahua". It was backed by "Golly! Golly! Go Buddy!". Both tracks appeared on their debut album, See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang Yeah! City All Over, Go Ape Crazy! The London new wave band formed when Leigh Gorman, Matthew Ashman and Dave Barbarossa were steered away from Adam and The Ants. Add Annabella Lwin and you have Bow Wow Wow. They were managed by ex-Sex Pistols' manager Malcolm McLaren. They disbanded in 1983.

On this date in 1981, Girls At Our Best! released their third single, "Go For Gold". It was backed by "I'm Beautiful Now". The B side appeared on their debut album, Pleasure, but the A side was not included until the album was re-released on CD. The single reached the #4 spot on the U.K. indie singles chart. The Leeds, England four-piece post punk band disbanded in 1981 with one album...and, despite their name, only one female (Judy Evans). The other members of the band were male.
