The Leather Nun - Slow Death

The Nuns

On this date in 1980, The Nuns released their self-titled debut album. It contained the singles, "Savage", "World War III" and "Wild", though theye were all re-recorded. The whole album was a re-recording by the band after they had already broken up but they got together to put this record out. Guitarist Alejandro Escovedo had already left the band before the end, later to resurface with Chip and Tony Kinman (ex-Dils) in Rank & File. The San Francisco punk band was one of the opening acts, along with The Avengers, for The Sex Pistols last show (San Francisco, Winterland Ballroom, January 14, 1978). The Nuns have since re-formed and are based in New York City as a goth band.

On this date in 1980, The Skids released their tenth single, "Woman In Winter". It was backed by a live version of "Working For The Yankee Dollar". The A side appeared on their third album, The Absolute Game. The single reached the #49 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The Dunfermline, Scotland post-punk band lasted until 1982, releasing four albums during their existence. Guitarist Stuart Adamson would depart before the end to form his own band, Big Country.

The Boys - To Hell With The Boys and Kamikaze

On this date in 1979, The Boys released their third album, To Hell With The Boys. It contained the singles, "Kamikaze" and "Terminal Love". The "Kamikaze" single was their fourth and was backed by "Bad Day" which was also on To Hell With The Boys. The London punk/power pop band recorded four albums as The Boys plus one under their holiday alter-ego, The Yobs, before disbanding in 1982. They were not newcomers to the scene as Matt Dangerfield and Casino Steel were both with London SS along with Mick Jones (The Clash), Tony James (Generation X) and Brian James(The Damned) before forming The Boys. The Boys have been performing live again.

Soft Cell - Where The Heart Is

On this date in 1982, Soft Cell released their tenth single, Where The Heart Is. It was backed by "It's A Mug's Game". The A side appeared on their third album, The Art Of Falling Apart. The B side did not but it was added as a bonus when the album was re-released on CD. The single reached the #21 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The Leeds, England new wave band disbanded in 1984 but has gotten together again in recent years.
