On this date in 1982, Iggy Pop released his thirteenth solo single, "Run Like A Villain". It was backed by "Platonic". Both tracks appeared on his sixth studio solo album, Zombie Birdhouse. The Muskegon, Michigan punk legend who fronted The Stooges has recently re-formed The Stooges.

Stockholm Monsters - Happy Ever After

In August of 1982, Stockholm Monsters released their second single, "Happy Ever After". It was backed by "Soft Babies". Neither track appeared on their debut album, Alma Mater, released in 1984. The Manchester, England post-punk band recorded on Factory Records along with Joy Division, New Order, A Certain Ratio and The Durutti Column among others. They disbanded in 1987.

Crass - Christ-The Album

In August of 1982, Crass released their fourth album, Christ-The Album. The album was a double album containing one record with 15 studio tracks and the other with 25 songs of mostly live material with a few studio demos. The studio side did contain the single, "Rival Tribal Rebel Revel". The album reached the #1 spot on the U.K. albums chart. The punk band from Essex, England broke up in 1984.

Trio

In August of 1982, Trio released their first album in the U.K. It was appropriately titled Trio. The album had been released in 1981 in their native Germany. It did not contain their most well-known single, "Da Da Da I Don't Love You, You Don't Love Me Aha Aha Aha", despite the single's release in 1982, because the album had actually been recorded a year ealier. When re-released on CD, the song was added as a bonus track. Yes...both the English and German versions of the song. The Niedersachsen, Germany new wave band called it quits in 1985 after four albums and numerous singles.

INXS - Stay Young

On this date in 1981, INXS released their fourth Australian single, "Stay Young". It was backed by an instrumental called "Lacavocal". The A side appeared on their second album, Underneath The Colors. The B side was a non-LP track. The single reached the #21 spot on the Australian singles chart. The Perth, Australia new wave band came to a sudden halt when lead singer Michael Hutchence died on November 22, 1997, apparently due to hanging by his own hands. They have recently found a new singer and have recorded and performed.

The Gun Club - Fire Of Love

On this date in 1981, The Gun Club released their debut album, Fire Of Love. It contained the single, "Sex Beat". The Los Angeles punk band went through numerous personnel changes. At various points in their career, they had Patricia Morrison (ex-The Bags, later Sisters Of Mercy and The Damned), Rob Graves (ex-The Bags, future 45 Grave), Terry Graham (ex-The Bags) and Kid Congo Powers (future The Cramps). Jeffrey Lee Pierce was the glue. The band officially ended when Pierce died of a brain hemorrhage on March 31, 1996

The Ruts - Something That I Said

On this date in 1979, The Ruts released their third single, "Something That I Said". The B side was "Give Youth A Chance". The A side appeared on their debut album, The Crack. The B side was a non-LP track that was added as a bonus track when the album was re-released on CD. The London punk/post punk band lasted two albums (the second, a semi-compilation) before the overdose death of singer Malcolm Owen. They tried to carry on under a new name, Ruts DC, with very limited success.They disbanded in 1983.

On this date in 1979, Glaxo Babies released their second 7-inch,a single fronted by "Christine Keeler". It was backed by "Nova Bossanova". Neither track appeared on either of their two albums. The Bristol, England post punk band disbanded in 1981. Dan Catsis joined The Pop Group and, later, Maximum Joy with another former Glaxo Babies member, Charlie Llewelyn. They disbanded in 1981 but not before being forced to change their name by pharmaceutical giant Glaxo. They became Gl*xo Babies. They reformed in 1985 and did some limited recording.

On this date in 1977, The Dead Boys released their debut album, Young, Loud And Snotty. They also released their debut single on this date. The A side was "Sonic Reducer". It was backed by "Down In Flames". Both tracks appeared on the album. The punk band, who originated in Cleveland from the ashes of Rocket From The Tombs, made a name for themselves in New York and were signed after several appearances at CBGB's. They disbanded in 1979 after two albums but reunited to record a live album a few months later before saying goodbye again. A few years after the band broke up, lead singer Stiv Bators launched The Lords Of The New Church.

On this date in 1982, Pere Ubu released their fifth studio album, Song Of The Bailing Man. There were no singles released from the album (this was typical of the band). The Cleveland avant-garde/proto punk band formed when Rocket From The Tombs disbanded. Dave Thomas and Peter Laughner formed Pere Ubu while fellow Rocket From The Tombs band members, Cheetah Chrome and Johnny Blitz, formed The Dead Boys. Pere Ubu continues to release music.

Silicon Teens - Memphis Tennessee

On this date in 1979, Silicon Teens released their debut single, "Memphis Tennessee". It was backed by "Let's Dance". Both tracks appeared on their debut album, Music For Parties. The group was the idea of Mute Records creator Daniel Miller and was not a real group. Studio musicians were brought in to play on the records. A group of teenage actors were hired to do the press interviews (though a real musician, Frank Tovey of Fad Gadget, was hired to "play" the lead singer). The "fictional" U.K. mod revivalist group was over by year's end with one album and four singles. Daniel Miller, by the way, was the lead singer of The Normal ("Warm Leatherette").

The Germs - What We Do Is Secret

On this date in 1981, The Germs released their first 12 inch EP (after two 7 inch singles and one album), What We Do Is Secret. It was a compilation of out of print tracks, demo tracks and live tracks and included the single, "Lexicon Devil". This was a posthumous release as singer Darby Crash had died nine months before. The Los Angeles punk band was fronted by Darby Crash, who committed suicide on December 7, 1980 of a planned drug overdose. That was the end of the band. They have re-formed to do shows recently with a new lineup.

GG Allin - Gimme Some Head

On this date in 1981, G.G. Allin released his third single, "Gimme Some Head". It was backed by "Dead Or Alive". His backing group for this single was the MC2 (Wayne Kramer and Dennis Thomspon of The MC5). Neither track appeared on an album. The Boston punk/hardcore artist was born Jesus Christ Allin and was famous for his outrageous stage antics. He once promised to commit suicide onstage but that did not happen. Instead, he died of an overdose in 1993, well away from the stage.

The Cure - Happily Ever After

It was a combination of The Cure's second and third albums, Seventeen Seconds and Faith, both only available in the U.S. as imports at the time. This compilation included the singles "A Forest" (#31 U.K.) and "Primary" (#43 U.K.). The album did not catch on well enough to chart. The Sussex, England post punk/goth/new wave band continues on with Robert Smith at the helm.

On this date in 1980, XTC released their ninth single, "Generals And Majors". It was offered as a double seven inch package. The other three tracks were "Don't Lose Your Temper", "Smokeless Zone" and "Somnambulist". The A side was on their fourth album, Black Sea. The other three tracks were non-LP tracks that were added as bonus tracks to the album when it was re-released on CD. The single reached the #32 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The Swindon, England post punk/new wave band called it quits in 2006 when Colin Moulding expressed a desire to call it quits. Andy Partridge didn't feel that it would be XTC without the both of them.

On this date in 1980, The Buzzcocks released their eleventh single, "Are Everything". It was backed by "Why She's A Girl From The Chainstore". Neither of the tracks appeared on an album but both were added as bonus tracks to their third album, A Different Kind Of Tension, when it was re-released on CD. The single reached the #61 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The Manchester, England punk band disbanded originally in 1981 but re-formed in 1989. Of the original lineup, only Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle remain.

Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A" We Are Devo!

On this date in 1978, Devo released their debut full length album, Q: Are We Not Men? A" We Are Devo!. It contained the singles, "Come back Jonee" (#60 U.K.), "Jocko Homo" (#62 U.K.), "Mongoloid" and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" (#41 U.K.), though this last track was different than the single version. The album reached the #78 spot on the U.S. albums chart and the #12 spot on the U.K. albums chart. The Akron, Ohio punk/new wave band went on hiatus in the early 90's as the band members were involved in separate projects. They resumed recording and performing in 1996.

The B side appeared on his debut album, Ou Est La Maison De Fromage? John Cooper Clarke was a punk poet from Manchester, U.K., whose poems would often, but not always, be set to background music. He opened for such bands as Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols, Joy Division and The Fall.

On this date in 1982, Stiff Little Fingers released their twelfth single, "Bits Of Kids". It was backed by "Stands To Reason". Both tracks appeared on their fourth album, Now Then... The Belfast, Northern Ireland punk band broke up in 1982 after four studio albums, one live album and numerous singles. They re-formed in 1987. Jake Burns and Ali McMordie, from their original lineup, are still there.
