Think Céline Dion Is Stylish Now? Check Out Her ’80s and Early-’90s Looks
Before she donned Vetements and gave a standing ovation at Giambattista Valli’s couture show, Céline Dion wore statement-making shoulder pads. It was the late ’80s and the woman who taught us “The Power of Love” was already a fashion icon in the making. A couple of weeks ago, artist Hey Reilly gave the pre-Grammy-winning Dion her due fashion cred with some pretty major throwback Instagram images. All three of the shots were collaged with the Céline Paris logo, and in one photo the singer is dressed in a corseted stonewash denim dress. The look is as awesomely ’80s as it gets.
That’s not the only gem in the diva’s sartorial archives either. There are shocking pink blazers, patchwork jeans, tutu skirts, and giant hoop earrings paired with a bolo tie. As Dion started to gain fame during the late ’80s and early ’90s, her style evolved. It became more streamlined and sophisticated, but she never lost her signature sense of quirky cool. Remember the backwards suit and fedora hat from the 1999 Oscars red carpet? The Canadian songstress has certainly come a long way since then, but it’s clear that she owes much of her fashion savvy to experimentation in the early years. Above, take a look at some highlights from Ms. Dion’s throwback wardrobe. Our hearts go on for her big-shoulder moments of the past.
