Kanada, Mitte des 19. Circus of Horrors is a 1960 British horror film directed by Sidney Hayers. It stars Anton Diffring, Yvonne Monlaur, Erika Remberg, Kenneth Griffith, Jane Hylton, Conrad Phillips, Yvonne Romain and Donald Pleasence.
Film critic David Pirie considered it to be the third entry in Anglo-Amalgamated's "Sadian trilogy" in his book A Heritage of Horror (1971), because the films focus on sadism, cruelty and violence (with sexual undertones) as opposed to the supernatural horror of the Hammer films in the same era. The previous films in the trilogy were Horrors of the Black Museum and Peeping Tom, both in 1959. It was released in the United States by American International Pictures as a double feature with The Angry Red Planet.

Orson Welles stepped in to direct the opening of this movie when Sidney Hayers was taken ill on location. It represents Welles' only work in widescreen, apart from the equally patchy David and Goliath. But this is a nicely staged scene!

The Southern Star (French title: L'Étoile du sud) is a Technicolor 1969 British-French comedy crime film directed by Sidney Hayers and starring George Segal, Ursula Andress and Orson Welles.[1] In French West Africa in 1912, an extremely valuable diamond is stolen. It was based on the novel The Vanished Diamond (French title L'Étoile du sud) by Jules Verne. The film's opening scenes were anonymously directed by Orson Welles - the last time he would direct scenes in another director's film.
Plot
Fortune hunter Dan Rockland (George Segal) comes to West Africa pretending to be a geologist. He is actually employed by Kramer (Harry Andrews), whose business is diamonds, and when Kramer's workers discover a huge uncut gem, Rockland is sent to retrieve it.
He and his African guide Matakit (Johnny Sekka) have opposition to contend with, first from Capt. Karl Ludwig (Ian Hendry), who is Kramer's security chief, and another is the diabolical Plankett (Orson Welles), who resents Rockland's interest in a woman named Erica (Ursula Andress).
The jewel is brought to Kramer and named The Southern Star, but at a party to celebrate the find, a power blackout leads to chaos. The diamond is gone. Matakit flees on a pet ostrich. Rockland sets out after him, with Erica coming along. Ludwig and his thugs are also in hot pursuit.
Plankett gets to Matakit first and takes him prisoner, setting a trap that leads to a shootout. In the end, just when it appears the diamond is safe, more ostriches show up and one of them just might have it.

Deadly Strangers is a creepy tale of a dangerous hospital patient who escapes from a locked psychiatric ward, leaving a grisly trail of violent deaths and assaults across the English countryside as the escaped patient bids to evade the pursuing authorities. Hayley Mills, the late Simon Ward and the veteran American actor Sterling Hayden make up the principal cast members of this rarely seen 'twist in the tale' chiller.

Sidney Hayers
Sidney Hayers (24 August 1921 – 8 February 2000) was a British film and television director, writer and producer.
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Hayers began his career as a film editor. Among the films he directed are Circus of Horrors (1960), the occult thriller Night of the Eagle (1962), a musical Three Hats for Lisa (1965) and The Trap (1966).
In British TV, his credits included The Persuaders! and The New Avengers; he later directed several American TV shows, including episodes of Magnum, P.I., The A-Team, Knight Rider, T. J. Hooker, Baywatch and The Famous Five.
Hayers died of cancer in 2000 in Altea, Spain, survived by his wife, the actress Erika Remberg. He had two children, Susan and Robert from his first marriage, to Patricia.

The Shadows
The Shadows are a British instrumental rock group, and Cliff Richard's backing band, with 69 UK chart singles from the 1950s to the 2000s, 35 credited to the Shadows and 34 to Cliff Richard and the Shadows. The group, who were in the forefront of the UK beat-group boom, were the first backing band to emerge as stars. As pioneers of the four-member instrumental format, the band consisted of lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar and drums. Their range covers pop, rock, surf rock and ballads with a jazz influence.
The core members are Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and Brian Bennett. The sound was produced by Fender and Burns guitars, amplifiers by Vox and echo units Meazzi Echomatic tape and Binson magnetic disc. The Shadows, with Cliff Richard, dominated British popular music in the late 1950s and early 1960s in the years before the Beatles. Although they lost ground in the late sixties, the band had a second success from the late seventies.
The Shadows are the third most successful act in the UK singles chart, behind Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard. The Shadows and Cliff Richard & the Shadows each have had four No.1 selling EPs.

Cliff Richard
Sir Cliff Richard OBE (born Harry Rodger Webb, 14 October 1940) is a British pop singer, musician, performer, actor and philanthropist. Richard has sold more than 250 million records worldwide. He has total sales of over 21 million singles in the UK and is the third-top-selling artist in UK Singles Chart history, behind the Beatles and Elvis Presley.
With his backing group the Shadows, Richard, originally positioned as a rebellious rock and roll singer in the style of Little Richard and Elvis Presley, dominated the British popular music scene in the pre-Beatles period of the late 1950s and early 1960s. His 1958 hit single "Move It" is often described as Britain's first authentic rock and roll song, and John Lennon once claimed that "before Cliff and the Shadows, there had been nothing worth listening to in British music." Increased focus on his Christian faith and subsequent softening of his music later led to a more middle of the road pop image, sometimes venturing into contemporary Christian music.

Orson Welles
George Orson Welles (/ˈwɛlz/; May 6, 1915 – October 10, 1985) was an American actor, director, writer, and producer who worked in theatre, radio, and film. He is remembered for his innovative work in all three: in theatre, most notably Caesar (1937), a Broadway adaptation of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar; in radio, the 1938 broadcast "The War of the Worlds", one of the most famous in the history of radio; and in film, Citizen Kane (1941), consistently ranked as one of the all-time greatest films.
Welles directed a number of high-profile stage productions for the Federal Theatre Project in his early twenties, including an innovative adaptation of Macbeth with an entirely African American cast, and the political musical The Cradle Will Rock. In 1937 he and John Houseman founded the Mercury Theatre, an independent repertory theatre company that presented an acclaimed series of productions on Broadway through 1941. Welles found national and international fame as the director and narrator of a 1938 radio adaptation of H. G. Wells' novel The War of the Worlds performed for his radio anthology series The Mercury Theatre on the Air. It reportedly caused widespread panic when listeners thought that an invasion by extraterrestrial beings was occurring. Although some contemporary sources claim these reports of panic were mostly false and overstated, they rocketed Welles to notoriety.

Ian Hendry
Ian Mackendrick Hendry (13 January 1931 – 24 December 1984) was an English film, television and stage actor best known for his parts in British TV series of the 1960s and 1970s, including the original The Avengers and The Lotus Eaters, as well as for his roles in films such as The Hill, (1965), Repulsion (1965), and Get Carter. Peers recognised him as exceptionally gifted, but he never fulfilled the promise of his early career, in large part due to a severe alcohol problem. Hendry, who was still able to turn in an impressive performance in his declining years, died aged 53.
Early years
Hendry was born in Ipswich, Suffolk on 13 January 1931. His father, James Hendry was born in 1901 in Glasgow. James obtained a degree in Chemistry from Glasgow University before moving to Ipswich in 1924 to take up a graduate position with R & W Paul Ltd. (now BOCM Pauls Ltd). His mother, Enid (née Rushton) was born in Durham in 1906. Shortly after her birth, Enid moved to Ipswich with her parents, George and Edith Rushton. George Rushton was an artist of some considerable talent and was Head of the Ipswich Art School from 1906-1929.

However, the local area is also being terrorized by an escaped mental patient, whose path seems to cross that of the two fleeing strangers. A great UK thriller that is never shown anywhere these days and is not available on dvd in English language. There are other prints on Youtube, but from a sub-standard vhs, so this new version looks better than anything else. This is a DIY restoration of the film, done from purely digital sources,with the best quality print available, cleaned up and re-titled for British viewers. Enjoy. Directed by Sidney Hayers. -

A song from the movie - Circus of Horrors Circus of Horrors is a 1960 British horror film directed by Sidney Hayers. It stars Anton Diffring, Yvonne Monlaur, Erika Remberg, Kenneth Griffith, Jane Hylton, Conrad Phillips, Yvonne Romain and Donald Pleasence. Film critic David Pirie considered it to be the third entry in Anglo-Amalgamated's "Sadian trilogy" in his book A Heritage of Horror (1971), because the films focus on sadism, cruelty and violence (with sexual undertones) as opposed to the supernatural horror of the Hammer films in the same era. The previous films in the trilogy were Horrors of the Black Museum and Peeping Tom, both in 1959. It was released in the United States by American International Pictures as a double feature with The Angry Red Planet.

British soundtrack composer Ron Goodwin, who during his long and distinguished musical career provided the soundtracks for over 70 films -- most notably the Margaret Rutherford 'miss marple' signature tune - produced a suitably haunting and atmospheric soundtrack for this 1974 Sidney Hayers directed British thriller. Deadly Strangers is a creepy tale of a dangerous hospital patient who escapes from a locked psychiatric ward, leaving a grisly trail of violent deaths and assaults across the English countryside as the escaped patient bids to evade the pursuing authorities. Hayley Mills, the late Simon Ward and the veteran American actor Sterling Hayden make up the principal cast members of this rarely seen 'twist in the tale' chiller.

Circus of Horrors is a 1960 British horror film directed by Sidney Hayers. It stars Anton Diffring, Yvonne Monlaur, Erika Remberg, Kenneth Griffith, Jane Hylton, Conrad Phillips, Yvonne Romain and Donald Pleasence.
Film critic David Pirie considered it to be the third entry in Anglo-Amalgamated's "Sadian trilogy" in his book A Heritage of Horror (1971), because the films focus on sadism, cruelty and violence (with sexual undertones) as opposed to the supernatural horror of the Hammer films in the same era. The previous films in the trilogy were Horrors of the Black Museum and Peeping Tom, both in 1959. It was released in the United States by American International Pictures as a double feature with The Angry Red Planet.

The film's opening scenes were anonymously directed by Orson Welles - the last time he would direct scenes in another director's film.
Plot
Fortune hunter Dan Rockland (George Segal) comes to West Africa pretending to be a geologist. He is actually employed by Kramer (Harry Andrews), whose business is diamonds, and when Kramer's workers discover a huge uncut gem, Rockland is sent to retrieve it.
He and his African guide Matakit (Johnny Sekka) have opposition to contend with, first from Capt. Karl Ludwig (Ian Hendry), who is Kramer's security chief, and another is the diabolical Plankett (Orson Welles), who resents Rockland's interest in a woman named Erica (Ursula Andress).
The jewel is brought to Kramer and named The Southern Star, but at a party to celebrate the find, a power blackout leads to chaos. The diamond is gone. Matakit flees on a pet ostrich. Rockland sets out after him, with Erica coming along. Ludwig and his thugs are also in hot pursuit.
Plankett gets to Matakit first and takes him prisoner, setting a trap that leads to a shootout. In the end, just when it appears the diamond is safe, more ostriches show up and one of them just might have it.

Simon Ward and Hayley Mills meet up by chance and end up on the run from the police after a fight with some biker thugs ends up with one of the bikers possibly dead.
However, the local area is also being terrorized by an escaped mental patient, whose path seems to cross that of the two fleeing strangers.
A great UK thriller that is never shown anywhere these days and is not available on dvd in English language. There are other prints on Youtube, but from a sub-standard vhs, so this new version looks better than anything else.
This is a DIY restoration of the film, done from purely digital sources,with the best quality print available, cleaned up and re-titled for British viewers.

A song from the movie - Circus of Horrors Circus of Horrors is a 1960 British horror film directed by Sidney Hayers. It stars Anton Diffring, Yvonne Monlaur, Erika Remberg, Kenneth Griffith, Jane Hylton, Conrad Phillips, Yvonne Romain and Donald Pleasence. Film critic David Pirie considered it to be the third entry in Anglo-Amalgamated's "Sadian trilogy" in his book A Heritage of Horror (1971), because the films focus on sadism, cruelty and violence (with sexual undertones) as opposed to the supernatural horror of the Hammer films in the same era. The previous films in the trilogy were Horrors of the Black Museum and Peeping Tom, both in 1959. It was released in the United States by American International Pictures as a double feature with The Angry Red Planet.

Deadly Strangers (1974) Ron Goodwin
British soundtrack composer Ron Goodwin, who during his long and distinguished musical career provided the soundtracks for over 70 films -- most notably the Margaret Rutherford 'miss marple' signature tune - produced a suitably haunting and atmospheric soundtrack for this 1974 Sidney Hayers directed British thriller. Deadly Strangers is a creepy tale of a dangerous hospital patient who escapes from a locked psychiatric ward, leaving a grisly trail of violent deaths and assaults across the English countryside as the escaped patient bids to evade the pursuing authorities. Hayley Mills, the late Simon Ward and the veteran American actor Sterling Hayden make up the principal cast members of this rarely seen 'twist in the tale' chiller.

Circus of Horrors is a 1960 British horror film directed by Sidney Hayers. It stars Anton Diffring, Yvonne Monlaur, Erika Remberg, Kenneth Griffith, Jane Hylton, Conrad Phillips, Yvonne Romain and Donald Pleasence.
Film critic David Pirie considered it to be the third entry in Anglo-Amalgamated's "Sadian trilogy" in his book A Heritage of Horror (1971), because the films focus on sadism, cruelty and violence (with sexual undertones) as opposed to the supernatural horror of the Hammer films in the same era. The previous films in the trilogy were Horrors of the Black Museum and Peeping Tom, both in 1959. It was released in the United States by American International Pictures as a double feature with The Angry Red Planet.

Fortune hunter Dan Rockland (George Segal) comes to West Africa pretending to be a geologist. He is actually employed by Kramer (Harry Andrews), whose business is diamonds, and when Kramer's workers discover a huge uncut gem, Rockland is sent to retrieve it.
He and his African guide Matakit (Johnny Sekka) have opposition to contend with, first from Capt. Karl Ludwig (Ian Hendry), who is Kramer's security chief, and another is the diabolical Plankett (Orson Welles), who resents Rockland's interest in a woman named Erica (Ursula Andress).
The jewel is brought to Kramer and named The Southern Star, but at a party to celebrate the find, a power blackout leads to chaos. The diamond is gone. Matakit flees on a pet ostrich. Rockland sets out after him, with Erica coming along. Ludwig and his thugs are also in hot pursuit.
Plankett gets to Matakit first and takes him prisoner, setting a trap that leads to a shootout. In the end, just when it appears the diamond is safe, more ostriches show up and one of them just might have it.

Judge Fulton sends Brett and Danny to the aid of Jenny Lindley, whose supposedly long dead brother Mark has suddenly reappeared to wrest possession of the family estate from her. The judge believes that Mark is an impostor and his suspicions seem considerable when somebody tries to kill Jenny. Whilst Mark has an alibi, a hit-man has been involved, who, in turn, is shot dead. The Persuaders find a diary, belonging to a former employee of the Lindley family, which provides the answer to the mystery but by this time Jenny has gone to see Mark and Brett and Danny fear that she may be in danger.
