In music:
Mass Appeal is a two-character play by Bill C. Davis. The comedy-drama focuses on the conflict between a complacent Roman Catholic pastor and the idealistic young deacon who is assigned to his affluent, suburban parish.
Father Tim Farley is highly popular with his parishioners due to his charm, wit, easy-going manner, and entertaining (but unchallenging) sermons. One Sunday, seminarian Mark Dolson interrupts Farley's sermon to challenge his stance on the ordination of women. The pastor is outraged yet intrigued by the young man, and asks to have him assigned to work with him.
Dolson is a firebrand eager to change the Church. He enjoys attacking Farley's "song and dance theology" and questioning why he drinks so much. Dolson feels it's his job to shake parishioners out of their complacency. Farley likes Dolson, but sees that he'll never succeed as a priest if all he does is irritate people and make enemies. Each man has something to teach the other about how to perform his priestly duties.
Gang Starr was an influential East Coast hip hop duo that consisted of the late MC Guru and the DJ/producer DJ Premier.
The group was founded in Boston, Massachusetts by Keith Elam (then known as Keithy E. The Guru) and DJ 1, 2 B-Down (also known as Mike Dee) with various producers, such as Donald D, J.V. Johnson or DJ Mark the 45 King helping out, their earliest recordings was in 1986 where they made various demos. In 1987 and 1988, Gang Starr released three 12" vinyl singles on Wild Pitch Records.
In 1989, the group split and the only member willing to continue under the name Gang Starr was Guru. He soon got in touch with Houston native DJ Premier (then known as Waxmaster C) who sent him a beat tape, which Guru liked. He invited DJ Premier to join Gang Starr and in that same year they released their first single "Words I Manifest" along with the album No More Mr. Nice Guy (1989). In 1990, the group was signed to the Chrysalis record label by then A&R director Duff Marlowe, a former DJ and Los Angeles Times rap music critic. The London-based label offered Guru and Premier unlimited artistic license and major-label distribution worldwide, a platform the group used to become one of the most influential hip hop acts of that decade. During their career Gang Starr helped pioneer the New York City hardcore hip hop sound. The entire Gang Starr catalog, especially Step in the Arena (1990), Daily Operation (1992), Hard to Earn (1994) and Moment of Truth (1998) are well respected among underground rap fans and critics. Gang Starr provided a track, Battle, for the sound track of the 2002 movie 8 Mile. Their track "Jazz Thing" was featured on the soundtrack to Spike Lee's film Mo' Better Blues.

In law, an appeal is the process in which cases are reviewed, where parties request a formal change to an official decision. Appeals function both as a process for error correction as well as a process of clarifying and interpreting law. Although appellate courts have existed for thousands of years, common law countries did not incorporate an affirmative right to appeal into their jurisprudence until the nineteenth century.
Appellate courts and other systems of error correction have existed for millennia. During the first dynasty of Babylon, Hammurabi and his governors served as the highest appellate courts of the land.Ancient Roman law employed a complex hierarchy of appellate courts, where some appeals would be heard by the emperor. Additionally, appellate courts have existed in Japan since at least the Kamakura Shogunate (1185–1333 CE). During this time, the Shogunate established hikitsuke, a high appellate court to aid the state in adjudicating lawsuits. In the Eighteenth century, William Blackstone observed in his Commentaries on the Laws of England that appeals existed as a form of error correction in the common law during the reign of Edward III of England.

With Grammy Awards already under his belt already, Rahki is one of Top Dawg Entertainment's most trusted producers. The Minneapolis-born producer was the man behind "i," one of K-Dot's biggest singles, for which he sampled a '70s Isley Brother's track, "That Lady." Besides making beats for other members of TDE such as Ab-Soul, Rahki has produced for Eminem, 50 Cent, Travis $cott and more. Rahki's ear for samples is so good, MASS APPEAL had to put him to the test in our latest episode of Rhythm Roulette. We met up with Rahki at Ameoba Music in L.A. where he tied on the blindfold and picked three records from the shop's clearance section. His picks were random as hell, including a chorus recording, orchestral music, and one album whose cover gave him "Illuminati type of vibes." It seems th...
"I pray God don't never take this shit from me," says Blac Youngsta, the Memphis rapper whose infectious personality threatened to upstage Lil Yachty in their recent music video "Hip Hopper." Signed to Yo Gotti's CMG imprint, Youngsta recently founded his own Heavy Camp label. "I'm blessed! I'm happy, bro! It scare me at times. Sometimes I just get scared. Like, I know I ain't got Jay Z money and Gotti money. But Bruh—I'm good. I'm satisfied. I'm happy with where my life taking me." During a recent visit to MASS APPEAL HQ, Youngsta took time out for an Open Space interview—and soon turned the video chat into a prayer meeting. "God thank you for everything you done for me," Blac Youngsta said, he head bowed down low. "Thank you for watching over me when I go in these clubs, watching over m...
On the latest episode of Rhythm Roulette, Daringer braves the bins at NYC’s Academy Records to blindly pull three records at random and test his production skills. Best known for his work with Buffalo MCs–and recent Shady Records signees–Westside Gunn and Conway, Griselda Records’ in-house producer didn’t flinch when faced with the folk and disco selects. Instead, he calmly sparked one and, with blunt in hand plus a special guest MC in the booth, cut another wavy gem. You read that right. After Banner pulled a few GEMS out of the bins—Chicago's VII, Gladys Knight & the Pips' About Love and the Meters' Cabbage Alley—and broke out the sage, we should have known right then and there that Banner was going to cook up some marvelous shit. Fresh after an interview with us and dropping his new album, 'More Than Anything,' Bay area producer-slash-rapper P-Lo pulled up to A1 Records in New York for today's "Rhythm Roulette." He submitted to our tradition of blindfold record digging and sample-based beat making with good humor, ending up with some Imperials, some Aretha Franklin, and some Iranian music. After passing on the Iranian stuff as "too zeeky," P settled with thoughtful head-nodding on Aretha's powerful "Song For You." He threw the sample in reverse, pitched it up and went in. With hollow drums and skittering snares, a couple vocal percussive chops, and some bouncy ratchet keys, he flips the tune into true "collar popping music." At the end, he gives himself a shout. We give him a shout, too. Salute! Subscribe to Mass...

I'm the one that's out of step, I guess I'm the freak,
Living in a nation where the chic all look like junkies.
I find your skin & bones funky.
I want a girl with something in the trunky.
But if dimensions ain't flat,
The narrow hips & minds declare you 'fat'.
Skip a meal for the ideal of the skindustry.
Think they're visionaries but I call them all assassins,
With the judgements they're passin',
Tell a girl of 13 what she has to fit her ass in.
Silicone on a stick
Ain't nothing next to natural and thick.
You take the stem I'll take the bloom.
Outside that Torrid dressing room,
That's where you'll find me chillin',
So take Kate Moss 'cause I want Kate Dillon.
The 'F' in F-A-T reads 'PH' to me!
I said the 'F' in F-A-T reads 'PH' to me!
Skinny Minny get the fuck out' my face!
You look like you're about to waste away to nothin'.
I want a girl with some stuffin',
A couple extra pads of butter on that muffin.
It ain't a fetish, it's taste,
For those with hips and waist and body graced.
And 'Mr. Perfect' with your insecurities,
You point and tease but, nigga please, you're all 'bout jookin'!
Big Mama's got something cookin'.
Won't admit it but you'd hit it when your boys ain't lookin',
But in the end it's your loss,
Allowing shepherd's flock to be the boss.
Your true desires, they shine through,
When others' eyes are not on you.
So you can fake and you can front,
You can take Liv Tyler 'cause it's Mia that I want.
The 'F' in F-A-T reads 'PH' to me!
I said the 'F' in F-A-T reads 'PH' to me!
Deny the beauty that I see.
That's less for them and more for me.
To your stick-figure-standard I remain defiant,
So keep your Vicki's Secret while I peep Lane Bryant.
The 'F' in F-A-T reads 'PH' to me!
I said the 'F' in F-A-T reads 'PH' to me!
So when I take you out you'd better eat-it-up, eat-it-up.
When I get you home I'm gonna beat-it-up, beat-it-up.
'Cause on that body I wanna pounce
And there'd better be alot-ee 'cause skeletons don't bounce.
I want my bed frame to shake,
So put away that salad, have a steak!
Don't play the game, don't try to hide.
Turn tears of shame to tears of pride.
It's all in the eye of the beholder,
So put away your Barbie Doll, a real man didn't mold her.
The 'F' in F-A-T reads 'PH' to me!
I said the 'F' in F-A-T reads 'PH' to me!
Reads "PH" to me!
