Burton-upon-Stather is a village and civil parish in North Lincolnshire, England. The village is situated 5 miles (8 km) north from Scunthorpe, 5 miles north-west from Frodingham, and is near the east bank of the River Trent. The civil parish consists of Burton-upon-Stather and the hamlets of Normanby and Thealby; its population at 2001 was 2,737.
The term Stather is of Danish origin and implies a landing-stage.
Up to 1914, the river landing was used as a calling place by steamers between Gainsborough and Hull.
A large slipway of concrete and wood to the north of Burton upon Stather was built in 1944 by the 79th Armoured Division (United Kingdom). It was used for testing and training with amphibious Duplex Drive tanks during the Second World War.
In 2009 a voluntary group was set up to protect, restore and provide access to the old Tank Ramp on the River Trent.
Burton-upon-Stather Grade I listed Anglican parish church is dedicated to St Andrew. It was initially built in 1160, and had a tower added in 1230. The church was restored and altered in 1865, and restored again in 1889; remaining features are Perpendicular. There are monuments saved and removed from Owston resited within the church: an effigy of a knight with sword brought from Boston, a cannonball from the Battle of Solebay, and many monuments of the Sheffield family.
A primary school or elementary school is a school in which children receive primary or elementary education from the ages of about five to eleven, coming before secondary school and after preschool. It is the first stage of compulsory education in most parts of the world, and is normally available without charge, but may be offered in a fee-paying independent school. The term grade school is sometimes used in the US though this term may refer to both primary education and secondary education.
The term primary school is derived from the French école primaire, which was first used in 1802.
In the United States, "primary school" may refer to a school with grades Kindergarten through second grade (K-2). In these municipalities, the "elementary school" includes grade three through five. The terms first school or infant school may also be used in North America though these, strictly speaking, refer to different educational programs.

A wonderful ring of eight bells situated in North-West Lincolnshire. These scenes were filmed on a typical practice night. Originally, there was only an 8cwt ring of three bells in this tower, two of which dated from the 16th century, and the other dating from 1620(ish). These three bells were recast by John Taylors in Loughborough in 1920, and now form No. 5-7 of the ring of eight. At the same time, three additional bells were added to make up a ring of 6, wich was then hung in a wooden, low-side eight bell frame. For 18 years Burton-upon-Stather enjoyed the sound of a 12cwt ring of 6, but in 1938, two trebles were added to the ring, thus completing this tower's ring of eight. The trebles are also Taylors products, and are dedicated to the memory of Canon Francis Amcotts Jarvis and his wi...

The ruins of Thornton Abbey and Gatehouse, North Lincolnshire (England, UK). Thornton Abbey was a medieval abbey located close to the small North Lincolnshire village of Thornton Curtis. It was founded as a priory in 1139 and raised to the status of Abbey in 1148. It was a house for Augustinian or black canons, who lived a communal life under the Rule of St Augustine but also undertook pastoral duties outside of the Abbey. The abbey was closed in 1539 by Henry VIII as part of the dissolution. The site is currently in the care of English Heritage and is open to the public.
