We started out trip around Peru from the capital, Lima, the main entry point for foreigners arriving in Peru. From Lima, we went to Trujillo, Huanchaco, Chiclayo, Arequipa, Chivay, Canyon de Colca, Puno, Lago Titicaca, Cusco, Valle Sagrado, Aguas Caliente and, of course, Machu Pichu. On the way, we visited many archaeological sites and learnt about the ancient civilizations that made pre-Columbian Peru.
After departing Lima, we headed to the North Coast. In Trujillo we stayed at the Hotel Colonial, which you can see on this video. From Trujillo we visited the cities of Huanchaco and Chiclayo, and the archaeological sites of Huaca de la Luna, Huaca del Sol, Chan Chan and the tomb of the Lord of Sipán, including their museums.
Após passar algumas semanas apenas em Lima estudando espanhol e conhecendo o que a capital peruana tem a oferecer, nós partimos para explorar o país. Começando pela região Norte, fomos até Trujillo, Chiclayo, Huanchaco, Huacas del Sol e de la Luna, Chan Chan e o sítio arqueológico da Tumba do Lorde Sipán. Depois, descemos pelo Sul do Perú e terminamos nossa jornada no interior, em Machu Pichu.

Un nuevo huaico azotó el centro de Trujillo, en La Libertad, tras la reactivación de la quebrada San Idelfonso. Canal N transmitió imágenes en vivo en el instante de la inundación de la ciudad. Lodo, piedras y desechos recorrieron las principales calles de la ciudad.

Trujillo is known as the Peruvian Capital of Culture. This Spanish colonial city in the northern desert of Peru is a vibrant place, with colorful architecture and proud Latino traditions.
The surrounding desert coast is dotted with the ancient ruins of lost civilizations. Some 2,000 years ago, long before the first Incas arrived, the Moche people and later the Chimú, managed to cultivate the arid Moche Valley and build thriving cities such as Chan Chan, made entirely from adobe bricks.
These pre-Columbian civilizations also created the mighty Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Moon, wove reed boats for fishing, dug canals for irrigation and designed refined jewelry and pottery.
The museum in the coastal site of El Brujo contains a tattooed mummy of a warrior leader or priestess, who was dubbed the Lady of Cao. Find out more about these ancient cultures in Trujillo’s Archaeological Museum. Then, admire the region’s pure-bred Paso Horses during a Marinera show with costumed dancers. End your stay with a visit to the Cathedral and Freedom Monument on Plaza de Armas in the city’s picturesque Historic Centre.

Las aguas de la quebrada El León se volvieron a desbordar en el balneario de Huanchaco. Aproximadamente a las 3 pm. se activó y empezó a bajar por el sector Loma Linda, pero con muy poca intensidad.
La primera alerta la dio la Municipalidad Distrital de Huanchaco a través de su cuenta de Facebook, en donde informó por última vez que el agua discurría por el paradero 45 en el centro poblado El Milagro.
Las principales calles quedaron anegadas y algunas otras bajo el lodo.

República del Perú ), is a country in western South America. It is bordered in the north by Ecuador and Colombia, in the east by Brazil, in the southeast by Bolivia, in the south by Chile, and in the west by the Pacific Ocean. Peru is an extremely biodiverse country with habitats ranging from the arid plains of the Pacific coastal region in the west to the peaks of the Andes mountains vertically extending from the north to the southeast of the country to the tropical Amazon Basin rainforest in the east with the Amazon river.
Peruvian territory was home to ancient cultures spanning from the Norte Chico civilization in Caral, one of the oldest in the world, to the Inca Empire, the largest state in Pre-Columbian America. The Spanish Empire conquered the region in the 16th century and established a Viceroyalty with its capital in Lima, which included most of its South American colonies. Ideas of political autonomy later spread throughout Spanish America and Peru gained its independence, which was formally proclaimed in 1821. After the battle of Ayacucho, three years after proclamation, Peru ensured its independence. After achieving independence, the country remained in recession and kept a low military profile until an economic rise based on the extraction of raw and maritime materials struck the country, which ended shortly before the war of the Pacific. Subsequently, the country has undergone changes in government from oligarchic to democratic systems. Peru has gone through periods of political unrest and internal conflict as well as periods of stability and economic upswing.

Magical Peru #2: Arriving in Trujillo
We started out trip around Peru from the capital, Lima, the main entry point for foreigners arriving in Peru. From Lima, we went to Trujillo, Huanchaco, Chiclayo, Arequipa, Chivay, Canyon de Colca, Puno, Lago Titicaca, Cusco, Valle Sagrado, Aguas Caliente and, of course, Machu Pichu. On the way, we visited many archaeological sites and learnt about the ancient civilizations that made pre-Columbian Peru. After departing Lima, we headed to the North Coast. In Trujillo we stayed at the Hotel Colonial, which you can see on this video. From Trujillo we visited the cities of Huanchaco and Chiclayo, and the archaeological sites of Huaca de la Luna, Huaca del Sol, Chan Chan and the tomb of the Lord of Sipán, including their museums. Las aguas de la quebrada El León se volvieron a desbordar en el balneario de Huanchaco. Aproximadamente a las 3 pm. se activó y empezó a bajar por el sector Loma Linda, pero con muy poca intensidad. La primera alerta la dio la Municipalidad Distrital de Huanchaco a través de su cuenta de Facebook, en donde informó por última vez que el agua discurría por el paradero 45 en el centro poblado El Milagro. Las principales calles quedaron anegadas y algunas otras bajo el lodo.

Depois, descemos pelo Sul do Perú e terminamos nossa jornada no interior, em Machu Pichu.

Peru – a land of extremes and intrigue – principally known for being home to the most important archaeological site in all of the Americas, offers in reality so much more. Its landscapes range from high Andean peaks, to sultry Amazon rainforests, from high altitude deserts and wild windswept coasts. Of course its great to travel with the Incas from Cusco to the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu, but its also possible to get off the beaten track, to explore remote ruins of the cloud warriors in the north, or afro-Peruvian beats along the pacific coast. Most of all it’s a diverse country that offers something for everyone. But for many, a trip to Peru will begin in Cusco.
As the ancient Inca capital, and the political power base in colonial times, Cusco has its fair share of sites. Sitting in a narrow valley surrounded by pine-covered hills, it’s a stunning place with enough cathedrals, churches, museums, galleries, cafes and shops to keep the modern traveller entertained for a week. Of course with one of the world’s foremost tourist attractions lying just up the road, most of the time Cusco is busy with locals and travellers alike, but don’t let that put you off; like many other similar locations, Cusco is popular for a reason… it’s simply a beautiful place to hang out.
As the traditional thoroughfare between Cusco and Machu Picchu, the lush agricultural Sacred Valley is littered with impressive Inca ruins. Probably the most famous are the sites of Pisac – where the famous terraces rise over a thousand feet from the valley floor to the mountaintop – and at Ullataytambo. Here again the site overs a great insight into the life of the Inca nation and some great views of the Sacred Valley. There are also some pretty towns and villages to explore; you can hike, horse ride, mountain bike or even paraglide; and you can stay in some pretty special accommodation.
But of course most people travelling this way have one goal in mind, and that’s to reach the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Pichu. There are many ways to get to the sacred Inca site: you can trek along the Inca Trail, or walk staying at beautiful mountain lodges, or you can horse ride, pretty much all the way there. Wild Frontiers offers a horse riding trip through the region.
There are plenty of trains to take you to Machu Picchu, but this is the most special. The Hiram Bingham service, operated by the Belmond Orient Express, offers a great way to climb through the Andean foothills to Machu Picchu, presenting great views – either from your seat of the observation car – delicious dining and champagne! Alighting at Aguas Calientes, buses then take us the last part of the journey to the actual site itself.
Although the exact purpose and function of Machu Picchu is still a matter of conjecture, there’s no denying that for the Incas this awe-inspiring ancient city must have been a very important ceremonial site. The quality of the buildings, of the intricate terracing, and the lofty position of the citadel itself, all point towards a hugely important cultural centre. Interestingly, it was never revealed to the Spanish invaders, and was only discovered in the early 20th century when American historian, Hiram Bingham, chanced upon it while searching for the lost city of Vilcabamba. Today it undoubtedly forms the highlight for most peoples’ trips to Peru.
For many that is tourism in Peru; but not for us at Wild Frontiers. For us this vast country offers much more. For a start there is the beautiful Lake Titicaca to check out, a giant inland sea, peppered by idyllic rural islands. (Use images from Bolivia) There is the picturesque town of Araquipa, back-dropped by the stunning El Misti volcano, and access point to the spectacular Colca Canyon, where you are pretty much guaranteed to see the mighty Andean condor fly. There are the quite extraordinary Nazca lines to fly above and Peru is one of the best places to visit the Amazon rainforest, where you are likely to stumble upon all manner of exotic animals. And in the country’s rarely visited northern highlands were we run one of our most successful group tours to visit, among other places, the fortress of Kuelap, and the home of the ancient cloud warriors of Chachopyas, and the newly discovered Gocta Falls.
And lastly of course there are the Peruvians themselves, whose colourful culture dates back into the mists of time, and who are as hospitable and friendly as any on the continent.
(245 or 246) For most tourism to Peru will revolve around three places, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and here at Macchu Pichu. But my advice is to remember, as amazing as those places are there’s a lot more travelling in Peru than just that. Come and see for yourself.

This Neo-Classic building was completed in 1938 and stands on the foundation of the former Pizzarro Palace. In the palace gardens is the house in which Pizzarro was killed. Lima, the City of Kings, became the capital of the largest region in Spanish South America and was where the viceroys of the Spanish crown resided. During colonial times this city was the largest, most populated, finest and most cultivated city on the continent. Some of the most beautiful colonial buildings in South America are to be found in Lima’s old town along with carved balconies of Moorish origin. Huaraz is the 3,050 metre high capital of the Departamento Ancash in the White Mountain range, the Cordillera Blanca. Several natural catastrophes destroyed the majority of the old houses and many people were killed. In 1824 Simon Bolivar built his headquarters there prior to his bloody struggle for Peru’s independence. The valley oasis of Nazca which played an important role during the early history of Peru is a desolate area in the south of the country. A small airport is the starting point of a journey to one of the world’s greatest mysteries, the enigma of Nazca culture: images of humans, animals and geometric forms scattered over an area of 1,000 km² like the pages of some fantastic historical and astronomical book, created by the Nazca between 500 B.C. and 500 A.D.The 8,300 km² Lake Titicaca is located at an altitudeof 4,000 m in the Andes Mountains on the border that divides Peru and Bolivia. In the Andes, the plaintive wail of the flute and beat of the drum accompany songs depicting indigenous life while dancers masked as devils and spirits are a marriage of pagan and Christian beliefs. In the jungle, ceremonial music and dance are a window into tribal life. And along the coast, a blend of elegant Spanish sounds and vibrant African rhythms reflect the Conquest and later slave labour of the New World.

Trekking is a great way to see the country. The most widely known route is the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Other popular routes include Cordillera Blanca - Huaraz, Colca Canyon - Arequipa, Ausangate Trek, Salkantay trek (also spelt Salkcantay), Choquequirao trek and Inka Jungle trek to Machu Picchu - an adrenaline trip to Machu Picchu.
Trek prices can vary considerably between companies, as can their respective porters' working conditions (no pack animals are allowed, hence equipment is carried by human porters). Although there is a minimum porter wage (PEN42/day, about USD15) and maximum load porters can carry (25kg/55 lb), not all companies keep to their claims!
Peru offers a big variety of adrenaline sport such as rafting, kayaking, biking, zip line, horseback riding, surfing, ATV, motocross, paragliding, canopy, canoing, sandboarding, etc.

The rich, consisting mostly of a Hispanic (or "Criollo") elite, live in the cities. Nevertheless, most Peruvians are great nationalists and love their country with pride (largely stemming from Peru's history as the hub of both the Inca empire and Spain's South American empire). Also, many Peruvians separate the state of Peru and its government in their minds. Many of them distrust their government and police, and people are used to fighting corruption and embezzlement scandals, as in many countries.
The Peruvian economy is healthy and quite strong, however inequality is still common. It is indebted and dependent on industrial nations, especially China, Russia and United States. The US foreign policy decisions in recent years has contributed to a widely held negative view about the US government in Peru, but not against individual citizens.
The word gringo is used commonly but is not generally intended as offensive. The original meaning encompassed all white people who do not speak Spanish. Many people use the word gringo exclusively for Americans or American look-alikes. It's not uncommon for blonde people to be called gringo. Peruvians do not hesitate to greet you with "¡Hola, gringo!".
Generally, people are very friendly, peaceful and helpful. When in trouble, you mostly can rely on getting help. But as with any setting, it is always good to watch out for yourself and try to avoid bad situations. If you get into an argument, it is a good idea to remain amicable, but firm. Most of the time, you can find a compromise that satisfies everyone.

Peru is one of our favorite countries to visit in the world. Audrey is half Peruvian and we have family in Lima so we're always looking for an excuse to come back. You won't find a more underrated cuisine in the world than Peruvian food.

So we're off the train and this marks the start of the Inca Trail.
So I guess we should explain that we aren't doing the traditional Inca trail. Normally you can do a four day walk or a 10 day walk. We're actually only doing a two day walk. We're not really lazy it is just kind of how it happened. Come on we are. Maybe, maybe just a little bit. We crave our comfort. So basically we're going to be hiking for a full day and then we're going to get to our Aguas Calientes and stay in a hotel. We're not staying in tents. And then the following day we'll be touring Machu Picchu with a guide and like learning the history of the place. So I guess really it is only one day walking the Inca Trail but we're going to say two to feel a little better about ourselves.
So within five minutes of walking we've already reached our first Inca site.
Machu Picchu! Machu Picchu! We made it. How are you feeling? I know. After that long hike. It is amazing. And we're so lucky to have views like this because apparently it was raining for three days before we did this hike. I know. And we have sunshine and blue skies and the lost city is waiting for us. Just over there.

We're going to be trying some traditional food from Cusco.
So we are taking a really fun overnight trip from Puno today to visit Lake Titicaca. Yeah, we're going to visit several islands and do a homestay overnight. Yeah, and we'll get to meet the different communities that live here because we have Aymara people and Quechua people.
Many travelers to Peru tend to skip over Lima as they rush off to more scenic destinations, but we’re of the opinion that the capital has a lot to offer. As one of the largest cities in South America, Lima can be a little chaotic and crowded, but it is also full of surprises, especially in terms of culinary experiences and historic attractions. In this travel video guide, we’re going to take you on a tour of the city and show you 30 things to do in Lima, Peru. Now let’s get started!
After spending some time in Lima, we flew into Iquitos for the final leg of our Peruvian adventure. The landscape changed from arid deserts to mountains and finally to jungle as our flight crossed the country, and once we arrived, the first thing we did was hop into a tuk-tuk to take us into the city.
So we have made it to Iquitos.
Hello from the shores of the Amazon river. This is a pretty cool place to be wouldn't you say? Yeah, this is a bucketlist item for us definitely. So we are currently cruising down the Amazon with Rainforest Cruises. We're going to be spending four days and three nights aboard the Delfin number one.

Las aguas de la quebrada El León se volvieron a desbordar en el balneario de Huanchaco. Aproximadamente a las 3 pm. se activó y empezó a bajar por el sector Loma Linda, pero con muy poca intensidad. La primera alerta la dio la Municipalidad Distrital de Huanchaco a través de su cuenta de Facebook, en donde informó por última vez que el agua discurría por el paradero 45 en el centro poblado El Milagro. Las principales calles quedaron anegadas y algunas otras bajo el lodo.

Las aguas de la quebrada El León se volvieron a desbordar en el balneario de Huanchaco. Aproximadamente a las 3 pm. se activó y empezó a bajar por el sector Loma Linda, pero con muy poca intensidad.
La primera alerta la dio la Municipalidad Distrital de Huanchaco a través de su cuenta de Facebook, en donde informó por última vez que el agua discurría por el paradero 45 en el centro poblado El Milagro.
Las principales calles quedaron anegadas y algunas otras bajo el lodo.
