This exasperated mum was left think she couldn’t believe it was butter when her two toddler sons covered themselves head to toe in the spread even getting it in their HAIR.
Jodi Hargraves had left Mason, two, and three-year-old Jaxson in their bedroom at home in South Lyon, Michigan, USA, believing they were watching a film on June 26.
Collecting all the dirty laundry from her bedroom, Jodi was called to the kids when her husband received a phone interview only to be greeted in their lounge by the boys smothered in the oily spread.
Stunned by the sight, Mason has butter all in his hair while Jaxson says the reason they wanted the ingredients was to make pancakes before admitting it was now in his brother’s bedroom.

Back in 2002, when Competitive Eating was still relatively unknown, there was a man named Don "Moses" Lerman who was rampaging through the competitive eating circuit like an absolute loose cannon. At one point he was the Baked Beans, Jalapeno Pepper, Matzoh Balls, Cloud Burger and Butter Eating World Champion. Fast forward to 2011....When the L.A. BEAST was first introduced to Competitive Eating....As a history major in college, the L.A. BEAST did his research on the pioneers of the sport and that is when he first came across Don Lerman. Focusing on YouTube Challenges back in 2012, The L.A. BEAST came across an article of Gross and Disgusting food records that were said to be unbreakable. Don Lerman's BUTTER RECORD of 7 quarter pound sticks of SALTED Butter in 5 minutes was #7 on the list and as of that point, no one had beaten the record in 10 years. (The record was set on February 21, 2002 for Fox's 2 hour special called "Glutton Bowl") Inspired, the L.A. BEAST put 8 sticks of Salted Butter onto a plate, set his timer to 5 minutes and gave it everything he had to try and achieve BUTTER EATING GLORY. On that day however, the BEAST fell short...only gobbling down 5 sticks of butter in 5 minutes, but he vowed to get his revenge.
Today, because he could not think of any other YouTube ideas, The L.A. BEAST has decided to try and tackle the now 15 year Standing BUTTER EATING WORLD RECORD and finally earn that redemption he vowed to get 5 years ago....

INGREDIENTS FOR 2 SERVINGS:
40g dairy-free yogurt
200g floury potatoes, boiled and peeled
80g potato starch
15g dairy-free butter
10 sage leaves, torn
black pepper
salt
STEPS
- Mix the yogurt with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Press the potatoes through a potato ricer, add them to the yogurt mixture, and stir to combine.
- Add the starch and work the ingredients together to create a dough. Form a ball with your hands, and let it rest for 20 min.
- Cut a 40 grams piece of dough from the ball, roll it by hand to form a sausage, and cut it into gnocchi. Keep the gnocchi separated on a piece of greaseproof paper ready to be cooked.
- For the sauce, melt the butter, gently fry the sage in it, and add a little salt and pepper.
- Cook the gnocchi for 1 minute or until they rise to the surface, drain them, combine them with the condiment in the pan - and a little water from the pot if necessary - and stir well.
- Add dairy-free cheese to taste, serve, and enjoy.
SUBSTITUTIONS and TIPS
- The gnocchi can be made with a variety of different flours and starches, but superfine ones work much better. Our favourite choices are potato starch - for easy-to-handle and slightly chewy gnocchi - and fine rice flour, for gnocchi that are a little sticky to the touch, but with no chewiness whatsoever. The fine rice flour we use is the kind that can be found in Asian supermarkets.
- The gnocchi dough can be kept in the fridge for 2 days, wrapped in cling film. To make it easier to handle after it has been in the fridge, take it out 1 hour in advance and work it by hand for about a minute before making the gnocchi, to bring the dough back to its original consistency and elasticity.

“Butter Fingers” explores some of the more unique items you might not want to let slip through your fingers. Let's face it, if you can't relate to dropping at least a handful of the items pictured, then you're either utilizing duct-tape to it's fullest potential or it was you who dropped the grenade. Condolences.
Creating "Butter Fingers" was no easy task and entirely a labor of love for the better part of 2 years. Finding time during evenings and weekends, until all hours of the morning occasionally, holidays etc. until the ground was filled with all the bits and pieces of unlucky items.
Although I was a team of one to formulate the ideas, illustrate, design and animate the visuals, that is only half of the pie. I worked with a pair of extremely talented people, each in their own right. Cyrille Marchesseau composed a stunning score based off of a single "Home Alone" reference I provided and created a soundtrack that opens up a colorful world I wouldn't have been able to arrive at on my own. Wesley Slover brought the items to life with marble hits and soda sprays galore, working from my ambiguous descriptions and requests until they were just the right amount of fun. Once everything was complete, he was also responsible for the crisp final mix that you hear now.
A special thanks to all those who answered my questions and helped solve problems I otherwise would still be stumped by, including Matthew Sienzant, Mike Florio, Chad Tafolla, Ryan Summers, Ben Tucker, Forbes Hill, Michael Dibblee, Justin Demetrician, and my beautiful wife Katie (who put up with more floor crashes than anyone should ever be asked to).

Butter
Butter is a solid dairy product made by churning fresh or fermented cream or milk, to separate the butterfat from the buttermilk. It is generally used as a spread on plain or toasted bread products and a condiment on cooked vegetables, as well as in cooking, such as baking, sauce making, and pan frying. Butter consists of butterfat, milk proteins and water.
Most frequently made from cows' milk, butter can also be manufactured from the milk of other mammals, including sheep, goats, buffalo, and yaks. Salt such as dairy salt, flavorings and preservatives are sometimes added to butter. Rendering butter produces clarified butter or ghee, which is almost entirely butterfat.
Butter is a water-in-oil emulsion resulting from an inversion of the cream; in a water-in-oil emulsion, the milk proteins are the emulsifiers. Butter remains a solid when refrigerated, but softens to a spreadable consistency at room temperature, and melts to a thin liquid consistency at 32–35 °C (90–95 °F). The density of butter is 911 g/L (0.950 lbs per US pint).

BEAST was first introduced to Competitive Eating....As a history major in college, the L.A. BEAST did his research on the pioneers of the sport and that is when he first came across Don Lerman. Focusing on YouTube Challenges back in 2012, The L.A. BEAST came across an article of Gross and Disgusting food records that were said to be unbreakable. Don Lerman's BUTTER RECORD of 7 quarter pound sticks of SALTED Butter in 5 minutes was #7 on the list and as of that point, no one had beaten the record in 10 years. (The record was set on February 21, 2002 for Fox's 2 hour special called "Glutton Bowl") Inspired, the L.A. BEAST put 8 sticks of Salted Butter onto a plate, set his timer to 5 minutes and gave it everything he had to try and achieve BUTTER EATING GLORY. Get a copy of our recipe e-book here http://thevgncnr.co/2kQWuXa INGREDIENTS FOR 2 SERVINGS: 40g dairy-free yogurt 200g floury potatoes, boiled and peeled 80g potato starch 15g dairy-free butter 10 sage leaves, torn black pepper salt STEPS - Mix the yogurt with a pinch of salt and pepper. - Press the potatoes through a potato ricer, add them to the yogurt mixture, and stir to combine. - Add the starch and work the ingredients together to create a dough. Form a ball with your hands, and let it rest for 20 min. - Cut a 40 grams piece of dough from the ball, roll it by hand to form a sausage, and cut it into gnocchi. Keep the gnocchi separated on a piece of greaseproof paper ready to be cooked. - For the sauce, melt the butter, gently fry the sage in it, and add a little salt and pepper. - Cook the gnocchi for 1 minute or until they rise to the surface, drain them, combine them with the condiment in the pan - and a little water from the pot if necessary - and stir well. - Add dairy-free cheese to taste, serve, and enjoy. SUBSTITUTIONS and TIPS - The gnocchi can be made with a variety of different flours and starches, but superfine ones work much better. Our favourite choices are potato starch - for easy-to-handle and slightly chewy gnocchi - and fine rice flour, for gnocchi that are a little sticky to the touch, but with no chewiness whatsoever. The fine rice flour we use is the kind that can be found in Asian supermarkets. - The gnocchi dough can be kept in the fridge for 2 days, wrapped in cling film. To make it easier to handle after it has been in the fridge, take it out 1 hour in advance and work it by hand for about a minute before making the gnocchi, to bring the dough back to its original consistency and elasticity. “Butter Fingers” explores some of the more unique items you might not want to let slip through your fingers. Let's face it, if you can't relate to dropping at least a handful of the items pictured, then you're either utilizing duct-tape to it's fullest potential or it was you who dropped the grenade. Condolences. Creating "Butter Fingers" was no easy task and entirely a labor of love for the better part of 2 years. Finding time during evenings and weekends, until all hours of the morning occasionally, holidays etc. until the ground was filled with all the bits and pieces of unlucky items. Although I was a team of one to formulate the ideas, illustrate, design and animate the visuals, that is only half of the pie. I worked with a pair of extremely talented people, each in their own right. Cyrille Marchesseau composed a stunning score based off of a single "Home Alone" reference I provided and created a soundtrack that opens up a colorful world I wouldn't have been able to arrive at on my own. Wesley Slover brought the items to life with marble hits and soda sprays galore, working from my ambiguous descriptions and requests until they were just the right amount of fun. Once everything was complete, he was also responsible for the crisp final mix that you hear now. A special thanks to all those who answered my questions and helped solve problems I otherwise would still be stumped by, including Matthew Sienzant, Mike Florio, Chad Tafolla, Ryan Summers, Ben Tucker, Forbes Hill, Michael Dibblee, Justin Demetrician, and my beautiful wife Katie (who put up with more floor crashes than anyone should ever be asked to). This butter slime is so big I needed my kids to help! Some people call this clay slime, but either way this slime is huge. Form a ball with your hands, and let it rest for 20 min. - Cut a 40 grams piece of dough from the ball, roll it by hand to form a sausage, and cut it into gnocchi. Let's face it, if you can't relate to dropping at least a handful of the items pictured, then you're either utilizing duct-tape to it's fullest potential or it was you who dropped the grenade. Condolences. Creating "Butter Fingers" was no easy task and entirely a labor of love for the better part of 2 years. Finding time during evenings and weekends, until all hours of the morning occasionally, holidays etc. until the ground was filled with all the bits and pieces of unlucky items. Back in 2002, when Competitive Eating was still relatively unknown, there was a man named Don "Moses" Lerman who was rampaging through the competitive eating circuit like an absolute loose cannon. At one point he was the Baked Beans, Jalapeno Pepper, Matzoh Balls, Cloud Burger and Butter Eating World Champion. Fast forward to 2011....When the L.A. BEAST was first introduced to Competitive Eating....As a history major in college, the L.A. BEAST did his research on the pioneers of the sport and that is when he first came across Don Lerman. Focusing on YouTube Challenges back in 2012, The L.A. BEAST came across an article of Gross and Disgusting food records that were said to be unbreakable. Don Lerman's BUTTER RECORD of 7 quarter pound sticks of SALTED Butter in 5 minutes was #7 on the list and as of that point, no one had beaten the record in 10 years. (The record was set on February 21, 2002 for Fox's 2 hour special called "Glutton Bowl") Inspired, the L.A. BEAST put 8 sticks of Salted Butter onto a plate, set his timer to 5 minutes and gave it everything he had to try and achieve BUTTER EATING GLORY. On that day however, the BEAST fell short...only gobbling down 5 sticks of butter in 5 minutes, but he vowed to get his revenge.
Today, because he could not think of any other YouTube ideas, The L.A. BEAST has decided to try and tackle the now 15 year Standing BUTTER EATING WORLD RECORD and finally earn that redemption he vowed to get 5 years ago....

INGREDIENTS FOR 2 SERVINGS:
40g dairy-free yogurt
200g floury potatoes, boiled and peeled
80g potato starch
15g dairy-free butter
10 sage leaves, torn
black pepper
salt
STEPS
- Mix the yogurt with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Press the potatoes through a potato ricer, add them to the yogurt mixture, and stir to combine.
- Add the starch and work the ingredients together to create a dough. Form a ball with your hands, and let it rest for 20 min.
- Cut a 40 grams piece of dough from the ball, roll it by hand to form a sausage, and cut it into gnocchi. Keep the gnocchi separated on a piece of greaseproof paper ready to be cooked.
- For the sauce, melt the butter, gently fry the sage in it, and add a little salt and pepper.
- Cook the gnocchi for 1 minute or until they rise to the surface, drain them, combine them with the condiment in the pan - and a little water from the pot if necessary - and stir well.
- Add dairy-free cheese to taste, serve, and enjoy.
SUBSTITUTIONS and TIPS
- The gnocchi can be made with a variety of different flours and starches, but superfine ones work much better. Our favourite choices are potato starch - for easy-to-handle and slightly chewy gnocchi - and fine rice flour, for gnocchi that are a little sticky to the touch, but with no chewiness whatsoever. The fine rice flour we use is the kind that can be found in Asian supermarkets.
- The gnocchi dough can be kept in the fridge for 2 days, wrapped in cling film. To make it easier to handle after it has been in the fridge, take it out 1 hour in advance and work it by hand for about a minute before making the gnocchi, to bring the dough back to its original consistency and elasticity.

“Butter Fingers” explores some of the more unique items you might not want to let slip through your fingers. Let's face it, if you can't relate to dropping at least a handful of the items pictured, then you're either utilizing duct-tape to it's fullest potential or it was you who dropped the grenade. Condolences.
Creating "Butter Fingers" was no easy task and entirely a labor of love for the better part of 2 years. Finding time during evenings and weekends, until all hours of the morning occasionally, holidays etc. until the ground was filled with all the bits and pieces of unlucky items.
Although I was a team of one to formulate the ideas, illustrate, design and animate the visuals, that is only half of the pie. I worked with a pair of extremely talented people, each in their own right. Cyrille Marchesseau composed a stunning score based off of a single "Home Alone" reference I provided and created a soundtrack that opens up a colorful world I wouldn't have been able to arrive at on my own. Wesley Slover brought the items to life with marble hits and soda sprays galore, working from my ambiguous descriptions and requests until they were just the right amount of fun. Once everything was complete, he was also responsible for the crisp final mix that you hear now.

"I aspire to be a sushi master of the bread & butter world. The 'Jiro Dreams of Sushi' of bread and butter."
Meet Dan Richer, the James Beard Rising Star chef semi-finalist and owner of Razza Pizza Artiginale in Jersey City, NJ. I remember his laugh the most. There's a quality, a character to it, as if he knows he's laughing at his own joke, poking fun at his own self-awareness. I find it charming, that Dan admits to being crazy. Crazy about ingredients. Crazy about sourcing. Crazy about everything that passes in and out of his kitchen. He is picky and meticulous to say the least. When he starts a new food project, he has to master it. "It's part of being a craftsman," he tells me. Part of his fight against mediocrity. To him, mediocrity serves no one. And maybe that's the mark of a true artisan, someone willing to go those extra lengths. To move towards perfection. Here at Razza's this design is in everything, especially in the bread & butter.
Blink...and you'll miss the dish on Razza's menu. Miss it, and I'll feel truly sorry for you. It's special. Really special. Even now, I can remember spreading the soft, salted butter over the oven-warmed bread. An act of salivation! Every bite is pillowy, the butter uniquely grassy, tangy. The crust alive and darkly caramel. The slippery coat on your lips, triggers a need for more bread, more butter. You marvel that something so simple, so overlooked, could be so satisfying.
To me, it's the most memorable dish on Dan's small menu, which says a lot coming from a restaurant with pizza in its name. And that's ok with Dan. While learning to make a better pizza, he got sucked into the rabbit hole of fermentation. Now, as you'll see, it's become his specialty. The bread & butter is Dan's greatest achievement, showcasing everything about food that's important to him. Enjoy his story.

This butter slime is so big I needed my kids to help! Some people call this clay slime, but either way this slime is huge. All you need for this slime is glue, shaving cream, model magic clay, and liquid starch. This is a slime without borax or detergent. You could borax if you wanted to though. I used about 35 bottles of glue and 16 bags of model magic clay for this butter slime recipe. That's $100 of clay! This slime is way bigger than a $100 slime challenge. Get a copy of our recipe e-book here http://thevgncnr.co/2kQWuXa INGREDIENTS FOR 2 SERVINGS: 40g dairy-free yogurt 200g floury potatoes, boiled and peeled 80g potato starch 15g dairy-free butter 10 sage leaves, torn black pepper salt STEPS - Mix the yogurt with a pinch of salt and pepper. - Press the potatoes through a potato ricer, add them to the yogurt mixture, and stir to combine. - Add the starch and work the ingredients together to create a dough. Form a ball with your hands, and let it rest for 20 min. - Cut a 40 grams piece of dough from the ball, roll it by hand to form a sausage, and cut it into gnocchi. Keep the gnocchi separated on a piece of greaseproof paper ready to be cooked. - For the sauce, melt the butter, gently fry the sage in it, and add a little salt and pepper. - ...

Butter Fingers
“Butter Fingers” explores some of the more unique items you might not want to let slip through your fingers. Let's face it, if you can't relate to dropping at least a handful of the items pictured, then you're either utilizing duct-tape to it's fullest potential or it was you who dropped the grenade. Condolences. Creating "Butter Fingers" was no easy task and entirely a labor of love for the better part of 2 years. Finding time during evenings and weekends, until all hours of the morning occasionally, holidays etc. until the ground was filled with all the bits and pieces of unlucky items. Although I was a team of one to formulate the ideas, illustrate, design and animate the visuals, that is only half of the pie. I worked with a pair of extremely talented people, each in their own right...

This exasperated mum was left think she couldn’t believe it was butter when her two toddler sons covered themselves head to toe in the spread even getting it in their HAIR.
Jodi Hargraves had left Mason, two, and three-year-old Jaxson in their bedroom at home in South Lyon, Michigan, USA, believing they were watching a film on June 26.
Collecting all the dirty laundry from her bedroom, Jodi was called to the kids when her husband received a phone interview only to be greeted in their lounge by the boys smothered in the oily spread.
Stunned by the sight, Mason has butter all in his hair while Jaxson says the reason they wanted the ingredients was to make pancakes before admitting it was now in his brother’s bedroom.

All you need for this slime is glue, shaving cream, model magic clay, and liquid starch. This is a slime without borax or detergent. You could borax if you wanted to though. I used about 35 bottles of glue and 16 bags of model magic clay for this butter slime recipe. That's $100 of clay! This slime is way bigger than a $100 slime challenge. You don't have to make yours this big though. Just use about the same amount of clay and slime. Since butter slime is fluffy slime with clay added my girls had a blast on this giant slime, because they love fluffy slime. This is a super easy butter slime recipe. Back in 2002, when Competitive Eating was still relatively unknown, there was a man named Don "Moses" Lerman who was rampaging through the competitive eating circuit like an absolute loose cannon. At one point he was the Baked Beans, Jalapeno Pepper, Matzoh Balls, Cloud Burger and Butter Eating World Champion. Fast forward to 2011....When the L.A. BEAST was first introduced to Competitive Eating....As a history major in college, the L.A. BEAST did his research on the pioneers of the sport and that is when he first came across Don Lerman. Focusing on YouTube Challenges back in 2012, The L.A. BEAST came across an article of Gross and Disgusting food records that were said to be unbreakable. Don Lerman's BUTTER RECORD of 7 quarter pound sticks of SALTED Butter in 5 minutes was #7 on the list and as of that point, no one had beaten the record in 10 years. (The record was set on February 21, 2002 for Fox's 2 hour special called "Glutton Bowl") Inspired, the L.A. BEAST put 8 sticks of Salted Butter onto a plate, set his timer to 5 minutes and gave it everything he had to try and achieve BUTTER EATING GLORY. On that day however, the BEAST fell short...only gobbling down 5 sticks of butter in 5 minutes, but he vowed to get his revenge.
Today, because he could not think of any other YouTube ideas, The L.A. BEAST has decided to try and tackle the now 15 year Standing BUTTER EATING WORLD RECORD and finally earn that redemption he vowed to get 5 years ago....
8 sticks of Salted Butter contains roughly 6400 calories of straight up fat. Eating just 1 stick of butter will have your body telling you that something isn't right. So if you decide to eat sticks of butter like an absolute boss, make sure you have excellent health insurance and 911 on speed dial.

INGREDIENTS FOR 2 SERVINGS:
40g dairy-free yogurt
200g floury potatoes, boiled and peeled
80g potato starch
15g dairy-free butter
10 sage leaves, torn
black pepper
salt
STEPS
- Mix the yogurt with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Press the potatoes through a potato ricer, add them to the yogurt mixture, and stir to combine.
- Add the starch and work the ingredients together to create a dough. Form a ball with your hands, and let it rest for 20 min.
- Cut a 40 grams piece of dough from the ball, roll it by hand to form a sausage, and cut it into gnocchi. Keep the gnocchi separated on a piece of greaseproof paper ready to be cooked.
- For the sauce, melt the butter, gently fry the sage in it, and add a little salt and pepper.
- Cook the gnocchi for 1 minute or until they rise to the surface, drain them, combine them with the condiment in the pan - and a little water from the pot if necessary - and stir well.
- Add dairy-free cheese to taste, serve, and enjoy.
SUBSTITUTIONS and TIPS
- The gnocchi can be made with a variety of different flours and starches, but superfine ones work much better. Our favourite choices are potato starch - for easy-to-handle and slightly chewy gnocchi - and fine rice flour, for gnocchi that are a little sticky to the touch, but with no chewiness whatsoever. The fine rice flour we use is the kind that can be found in Asian supermarkets.
- The gnocchi dough can be kept in the fridge for 2 days, wrapped in cling film. To make it easier to handle after it has been in the fridge, take it out 1 hour in advance and work it by hand for about a minute before making the gnocchi, to bring the dough back to its original consistency and elasticity.

“Butter Fingers” explores some of the more unique items you might not want to let slip through your fingers. Let's face it, if you can't relate to dropping at least a handful of the items pictured, then you're either utilizing duct-tape to it's fullest potential or it was you who dropped the grenade. Condolences.
Creating "Butter Fingers" was no easy task and entirely a labor of love for the better part of 2 years. Finding time during evenings and weekends, until all hours of the morning occasionally, holidays etc. until the ground was filled with all the bits and pieces of unlucky items.
Although I was a team of one to formulate the ideas, illustrate, design and animate the visuals, that is only half of the pie. I worked with a pair of extremely talented people, each in their own right. Cyrille Marchesseau composed a stunning score based off of a single "Home Alone" reference I provided and created a soundtrack that opens up a colorful world I wouldn't have been able to arrive at on my own. Wesley Slover brought the items to life with marble hits and soda sprays galore, working from my ambiguous descriptions and requests until they were just the right amount of fun. Once everything was complete, he was also responsible for the crisp final mix that you hear now.
A special thanks to all those who answered my questions and helped solve problems I otherwise would still be stumped by, including Matthew Sienzant, Mike Florio, Chad Tafolla, Ryan Summers, Ben Tucker, Forbes Hill, Michael Dibblee, Justin Demetrician, and my beautiful wife Katie (who put up with more floor crashes than anyone should ever be asked to).

Meet Dan Richer, the James Beard Rising Star chef semi-finalist and owner of Razza Pizza Artiginale in Jersey City, NJ. I remember his laugh the most. There's a quality, a character to it, as if he knows he's laughing at his own joke, poking fun at his own self-awareness. I find it charming, that Dan admits to being crazy. Crazy about ingredients. Crazy about sourcing. Crazy about everything that passes in and out of his kitchen. He is picky and meticulous to say the least. When he starts a new food project, he has to master it. "It's part of being a craftsman," he tells me. Part of his fight against mediocrity. To him, mediocrity serves no one. And maybe that's the mark of a true artisan, someone willing to go those extra lengths. To move towards perfection. Here at Razza's this design is in everything, especially in the bread & butter.
Blink...and you'll miss the dish on Razza's menu. Miss it, and I'll feel truly sorry for you. It's special. Really special. Even now, I can remember spreading the soft, salted butter over the oven-warmed bread. An act of salivation! Every bite is pillowy, the butter uniquely grassy, tangy. The crust alive and darkly caramel. The slippery coat on your lips, triggers a need for more bread, more butter. You marvel that something so simple, so overlooked, could be so satisfying.
To me, it's the most memorable dish on Dan's small menu, which says a lot coming from a restaurant with pizza in its name. And that's ok with Dan. While learning to make a better pizza, he got sucked into the rabbit hole of fermentation. Now, as you'll see, it's become his specialty. The bread & butter is Dan's greatest achievement, showcasing everything about food that's important to him. Enjoy his story.

Our dear friend and valued member of the food community Jennifer Perillo lost her husband of 18 years to a sudden heart attack. She asked that in honor of those we love, to make a Creamy Peanut Butter Pie and share it to those we love. This pie was also a favorite of her husband, Mikey.
