Elmer

Elmer is an American and Canadian given name that originated as a surname, a medieval variant of the given name Aylmer, derived from Old English æþel (noble) and mær (famous). It was adopted as a given name in the United States, "in honor of the popularity of the brothers Ebenezer and Jonathan Elmer, leading supporters of the American Revolution." The name has fallen out of popular use in the last few decades and it is uncommon to find Elmers born after World War II.

David McKee

David McKee (born 2 January 1935) is a British writer and illustrator, chiefly of children's books and animations. He has used the pseudonym Violet Easton. He is frequently referenced as David (John) McKee.

For his contribution as a children's illustrator he was UK nominee for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2006.

Biography

McKee was born and brought up in Tavistock, South Devon, England. After attending the local grammar school he studied at Plymouth College of Art. While still at college, he started selling one-off cartoons, particularly to the national press. On leaving college he continued this to support himself while painting, drawing regularly for, among others, Punch, Reader's Digest, and The Times Educational Supplement.

The first book that he sold was of a story he had told at college, Two Can Toucan. It is about a South American bird who can carry two cans of paint on its enormous bill. This was published by Abelard-Schuman in 1964; a 1985 edition with new illustrations by McKee was re-issued in 2001 by Andersen Press.

Gloc-9

Aristotle Pollisco (born 18 October 1977), known by his stage name Gloc-9, is an Awit Award-winning Filipino rapper. His fast-flowing vocal style has made him one of the most successful hip-hop artists in the Philippines. He was described by fellow Filipino rapper Francis Magalona as "a blacksmith of words and letters, and a true Filipino poet."

He has collaborated on almost a dozen songs with other OPM artists; “Lando” with the late Francis M, “Upuan” with Jaezelle, “Bagsakan” with Parokya ni Edgar , “Baon” with Gab Chee Kee of Parokya ni Edgar and Francis M, and “Sari-Saring Kwento” with Noel Cabangon and Champ Lui Pio. His songs mostly tackle social issues such as social injustices, poverty and patriotism. He began his musical career with the gangsta rap group Death Threat.

Gloc-9 is notably one of the few artists in the Philippine music scene who has won an award in every album he created.

US federal immigration agents have arrested nearly 200 people in the Los Angeles area in southern California during a five-day raid, claiming that most of them had criminal convictions.
