MACD, short for moving average convergence/divergence, is a trading indicator used in technical analysis of stock prices, created by Gerald Appel in the late 1970s. It is supposed to reveal changes in the strength, direction, momentum, and duration of a trend in a stock's price.
The MACD indicator (or "oscillator") is a collection of three time series calculated from historical price data, most often the closing price. These three series are: the MACD series proper, the "signal" or "average" series, and the "divergence" series which is the difference between the two. The MACD series is the difference between a "fast" (short period) exponential moving average (EMA), and a "slow" (longer period) EMA of the price series. The average series is an EMA of the MACD series itself.
The MACD indicator thus depends on three time parameters, namely the time constants of the three EMAs. The notation "MACD(a,b,c)" usually denotes the indicator where the MACD series is the difference of EMAs with characteristic times a and b, and the average series is an EMA of the MACD series with characteristic time c. These parameters are usually measured in days. The most commonly used values are 12, 26, and 9 days, that is, MACD(12,26,9). As true with most of the technical indicators, MACD also finds its period settings from the old days when technical analysis used to be mainly based on the daily charts. The reason was the lack of the modern trading platforms which show the changing prices every moment. As the working week used to be 6-days, the period settings of (12, 26, 9) represent 2 weeks, 1 month and one and a half week. Now when the trading weeks have only 5 days, possibilities of changing the period settings cannot be overruled. However, it is always better to stick to the period settings which are used by the majority of traders as the buying and selling decisions based on the standard settings further push the prices in that direction.

The man behind the I Heart NY logo, the Brooklyn Lager identity, that iconic Dylan image, a founder of the revolutionary Pushpin studio and the author of several books about how to think creatively, Milton Glaser is the quintessential American designer. Irreverent, intellectual and self assured, Glaser’s work has helped define and redefine design from the 50s on. You’ve worn the T-Shirt, drank the beer, listened to the bands, read the books – now watch this exclusive interview filmed in his studio by author and friend of OFFSET Steve Heller. Showreel from award winning designer/director Stephen Mac Devitt. These are a selection of clips from work produced at RTÉ and personal projects. It's a mix of work, some stop motion, some live action, some pure graphics. I directed/designed all of the pieces (bar the last music video directed by Greg Cororcan) and was responsible for concept to execution. 3D was provided by various sources. Music by Emiliana Torrini - Jungle Drum Thanks for the views, I'll be uploading the various pieces of work with some background info over the next few weeks.
I was asked by OFFSET, an international design conference in Dublin Ireland, to create the opening sequence for an interview with Milton Glazer. The initial idea I had was quickly dumped once we saw the rushes of the interview. Originally having planned to animate and use his work heavily in the opening sequence, the lack of him talking about it or it being a retrospective and it more of a piece on design in general and his thoughts, so the concept changed with it. I now took a few pieces as a starting point and use them as a more abstract launch pad, plus the strong shape and type from his logo. Creating a title on one of the godfathers of design, to be watched by designers at an international design conference - no pressure... Married with the excellent music by Gerry Horan I'm very h...
Stop Motion title sequence for an Irish language cookery programme for RTÉ Television. With a very short deadline and an equally short budget it was made for spending a few days taking thousands of photos with lots of fruit and veg. We kept it as true to the photos as possible with just two shots being altered in post. Highly Commended - IDI Awards 2007 Concept and Direction - Stephen Mac Devitt Photography - Lorraine Sherry
A combination of timelapse and stop motion over one great weekend in Ballinlough castle at the Body & Soul festival. A mere taster of what's in store... The resulting 5000 photos of bands, performances and a cast of hundreds of lunatics, freaks, fools & families have been condensed into a two and a half minutes for your viewing pleasure.. Enjoy. Music by Holy Fuck - 'Lovely Allen' (they rocked)
Title sequence for RTÉ Young People's where two teams of 10-12 year olds battle it out. Took apart a toaster for this one (smashy smashy) and used the various elements for our environment where we pay homage to old school computer games and neon. The various stages represent the mental, physical and problem solving challenges that await the teams. Commended - IDI 2009 Awards Concept & Direction - Stephen Mac Devitt Post Production - the Farm (Now Noho) Music - Vampire Weekend 'A-Punk'

Uyuni, Bolivia. 14th of February 2012 Having arrived at the largest salt flats in the world only to find there was no electricity in the town hence no petrol and therefor no leaving for the next two days, we found ourselves with some time to kill. We all knew the Salar photos that people take, so we thought why shoot some photos when we could shoot a film.. And so, over a few beers and a pizza, CTRL sAlt Delete was born - our Valentines Day love story full of action, love, damels in distress, death and dinosaurs. And of course of salt. Lots of salt.
