Adam Savage walks through two spectacular examples of profound scientific discoveries that came from simple, creative methods anyone could have followed -- Eratosthenes' calculation of the Earth's circumference around 200 BC and Hippolyte Fizeau's measurement of the speed of light in 1849.
More than a billion years ago, two black holes in a distant galaxy locked into a spiral, falling inexorably toward each other, and collided. "All that energy was pumped into the fabric of time and space itself," says theoretical physicist Allan Adams, "making the universe explode in roiling waves of gravity." About 25 years ago, a group of scientists built a giant laser detector called LIGO to search for these kinds of waves, which had been predicted but never observed. In this mind-bending talk, Adams breaks down what happened when, in September 2015, LIGO detected an unthinkably small anomaly, leading to one of the most exciting discoveries in the history of physics. Sean’s talk focuses on his claim that sports are becoming the primary way American men learn critical lessons about work, determination, failure, and accountability, leading him to challenge listeners to rethink the true value they assign to sports. Sean Adams, a former NCAA All-American athlete, turned his love of sports into a life working with others through the medium of sports. Each afternoon he hosts the top-rated show “The Adams Theory” on the Longhorn Flagship Station and ESPN affiliate – AM 1300 The Zone. He is also a television analyst for football and track and field for ESPN and The Longhorn Network. This talk was given at a TEDx event usin...

The 2011 San Diego Comic Con Spotlight on Ashley Wood. IDW publisher Ted Adams interviews Ashley about his career. Sorry for the shaky camera. In January 2014 Kathryn Schulz published an article in Vulture called "The Five Best Punctuation Marks in Literature." Link: http://www.vulture.com/2014/01/best-punctuation-marks-literature-nabokov-eliot-dickens-levi.html It got me thinking about what the five best "punctuation marks" in film might look like. I wanted to assemble a video essay with a rapidfire list of nominees of great moments of editing-as-punctuation in film. But as I started putting it together, the project grew into a twofold piece: an analysis of and response to Schulz's article as well as an attempt to spur new insights about editing by examining it through the metaphor of punctuation. So, here it is: 20 minutes long, clips from 100 films (101 if you count that Woody Allen quotes Duck Soup in Hannah and her Siste...
