Antarctica (US English i/æntˈɑːrktɪkə/, UK English /ænˈtɑːktɪkə/ or /ænˈtɑːtɪkə/ or /ænˈɑːtɪkə/) is Earth's southernmost continent, containing the geographic South Pole. It is situated in the Antarctic region of the Southern Hemisphere, almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle, and is surrounded by the Southern Ocean. At 14,000,000 square kilometres (5,400,000 square miles), it is the fifth-largest continent in area after Asia, Africa, North America, and South America. For comparison, Antarctica is nearly twice the size of Australia. About 98% of Antarctica is covered by ice that averages 1.9 kilometres (1.2 mi) in thickness, which extends to all but the northernmost reaches of the Antarctic Peninsula.
Antarctica, on average, is the coldest, driest, and windiest continent, and has the highest average elevation of all the continents. Antarctica is considered a desert, with annual precipitation of only 200 mm (8 in) along the coast and far less inland. The temperature in Antarctica has reached −89.2 °C (−128.6 °F), though the average for the third quarter (the coldest part of the year) is −63 °C (−81 °F). There are no permanent human residents, but anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 people reside throughout the year at the research stations scattered across the continent. Organisms native to Antarctica include many types of algae, bacteria, fungi, plants, protista, and certain animals, such as mites, nematodes, penguins, seals and tardigrades. Vegetation, where it occurs, is tundra.
Graham Hancock (/ˈhænkɒk/; born 2 August 1950) is a British writer and journalist. Hancock specialises in unconventional theories involving ancient civilisations, stone monuments or megaliths, altered states of consciousness, ancient myths and astronomical/astrological data from the past. One of the main themes running through many of his books is a posited global connection with a "mother culture" from which he believes all ancient historical civilisations sprang. His work has been rejected by scientists as an example of pseudoarchaeology.
Born in Edinburgh, Hancock spent his formative years in India, where his father worked as a surgeon. Having returned to the UK, he graduated from Durham University in 1973, receiving a First Class Honours degree in sociology. As a journalist, Hancock worked for many British papers, such as The Times, The Sunday Times, The Independent, and The Guardian. He co-edited New Internationalist magazine from 1976 to 1979, and served as the East Africa correspondent of The Economist from 1981 to 1983.

Ancient Siam (also known as Ancient City)(Thai: เมืองโบราณ, Mueang Boran) is a park constructed under the patronage of Lek Viriyaphant and spreading over 200 acres (0.81 km2) in the shape of Thailand.
The founder's original idea was to create a golf course with miniatures of Thailand's historically significant structures spread around the course. During his research he found most structures being severely damaged over time and decided instead of creating new miniatures to save the original structures when possible or re-creating them full size or scaled down.
Ancient Siam is dubbed as the world's largest outdoor museum. Situated close to the Crocodile Farm in Samut Prakan province, the 320-hectare city features 116 structures of Thailand's famous monuments and architectural attractions. The grounds of Ancient Siam correspond roughly to the shape of the Kingdom, with each of the monuments lying at their correct places geographically. Some of the buildings are life-size replicas of existing or former sites, while others are scaled down.

http://mocomi.com/ presents: Antarctica - the highest, driest, emptiest, coldest place on earth. Over 98% of Antarctica is covered by the unbroken polar ice sheet. If the ice sheet melted, the oceans would rise by around 65 meters. The size of the Antarctic ice sheet doubles every winter. The elevation at the south pole is 9300 feet although the bedrock is only a 100 feet above sea level. It is the driest and coldest place on earth. The lowest recorded temperature in history is -128 degrees F. Antarctica is the 5th largest continent with a population of 0. Antarctica is the only continent with no countries. Samples of ice extracted from the ice sheet give scientists valuable information about the earth’s climate from millions of years ago. Antarctica is the only continent with n...

The Arctic pole is located in the Northern Hemisphere within the deep Arctic Ocean, while the Antarctic pole is smack in the middle of the ice-covered Antarctica. Camille Seaman describes how enterprising people and organisms have found ways to reside around both poles despite the frigid temperatures. Lesson by Camille Seaman, animation by Provincia Studio.

This documentary short is a complex presentation of recent U.S. and Russian visits to Antarctica, the Nazis, and Hollow Earth, including its importance in Nazi Germany before and during WW2, and Antarctica's possible escape route off of the Earth for many Nazi's who mysteriously disappeared after the war without a trace. Few know the truth about Antarctica, as it is an expanse of land that has gone unnoticed for centuries. But not by the Nazis...They knew the truth... The Nazis believed there might have been a civilization inside the Earth. This was the belief of Helena Blavatsky, who profoundly influenced the Nazi's philosophy and esotericism. There is an abundance of evidence to suggest that a theory now considered dumb to most people, the hollow Earth, had an unusual cult following in ...
Documentary : Secrets Beneath The Ice In Antarctica HD full Almost three miles of ice buries most of Antarctica, cloaking a continent half again as large as the United States. But when an Antarctic ice shelf the size of Manhattan collapsed in less than a month in 2002, it shocked scientists and raised the alarming possibility that Antarctica may be headed for a meltdown. Even a 10 percent loss of Antarctica's ice would cause catastrophic flooding of coastal cities unlike any seen before in human history. What are the chances of a widespread melt? "Secrets Beneath the Ice" explores whether Antarctica's climate past can offer clues to what may happen. NOVA follows a state-of-the-art expedition that is drilling three-quarters of a mile into the Antarctic seafloor. The drill is recovering r...

Once you have seen Antarctica you have seen one of the world's true wilderness areas and nothing I tell you right now can describe to you the way I am feeling but it gets under your skin and into your blood and it makes me realise why those early explorers no matter how many hard ships they faced travelled so far around the world to see what no man had ever seen before. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► http://goo.gl/HYQdhg Join us. As the fifth largest continent in the world, Antartica is also the most Southern, overlying the "South Pole". Scarcely touched by humans, the frozen land boasts breathtaking scenery, broken by only a handful of scientific bases and a "permanent" population of scientists numbering only a few thousand. Visitors to Antarctica generally must brave rough sea crossings aboard ice-strengthened vessels, but those who do are rewarded with amazing scenery and tremendous and unique wildlife. De...
Travel video about destination Antarctica. Travelling the Arctic by ship has always been one of those special dream destinations, particularly in the Northern Polar Sea area, the icy world around the North Pole where little life exists. Our expedition begins in Longyearbyen on the island of Spitsbergen from where we are going to travel by cruise ship to the remotest locations of the Arctic. Our ship, the Plancius, was originally the oceanographic research ship of the Dutch monarchy. In Zodiacs - robust inflatable boats - we get our first real sense of the Arctic Ocean. We travel alongside the 14th of July Glacier while the boatman skilfully manoeuvres between fragments of floating icebergs. At Ny Ålesund we reach the northernmost permanent settlement in the world. This area was mined un...

Travel video about destination Antartica. Antarctica is situated far from civilization and is one of the last large ecosystems on our planet. Indeed, it is a continent that is still in a primeval state. Seeing its snow covered mountains and beaches covered with wildlife, one becomes even more aware of the amazing beauty of this region yet also the delicate balance of the Antarctic and its wildlife. It is a tranquil natural landscape where thousands of penguin inhabit the bays and hills along with endearing seals living in a habitat of icebergs, glaciers and vast empty spaces of ice. No other continent is as unexplored and undiscovered and for scientists, it continues to possess many enigmas and secrets yet to be revealed. The Antarctic is one of the last paradises on Earth and a marvel of ...
Travel video about destination Antarctic. The Antarctic lies far away from the civilised world and is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, a spectacular wilderness of snow, ice and rock: the last, large eco system on the planet. In Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, we begin our expedition by cruise ship to some of the most remote locations in the Antarctic. The boat makes its way along the coastline of a land of icebergs, glaciers and snow covered islands on the coldest, driest and most deserted continent on Earth. The journey through the Lemaire Channel is one of the most spectacular maritime passages one could ever experience. Everything looks absolutely newly-created. The channel is about fifteen kilometres long and up to a hundred metres wide, with snow covered islands ...

This is a teaser that I put together for a new documentary tv series that I am developing, called "A Woman's Guide To The World". a ‘how to’ documentary tv series for women traveling to dangerous and adventurous locales "A Woman's Guide To The World” is a how-to show for solo female traveling. It is for those who are interested in adventuring off to different locales, but have been too intimidated, worried or scared to do it yet. I'm pitching it as a 10 part TV series. The first episode features Antarctica and the Amazon. This is just a sample teaser, with the raw footage. *Not for professional use.
Canadian filmmaker Apolla Echino was tired of seeing men get to have all the fun in adventure films and is on a one-woman mission to change that around. Her documentary series, A Woman’s Guide To The World, has taken her aboard a tall ship sailing to Antarctica and into the wildest corners of the Amazon jungle. But it’s the latest chapter, a wintertime surf trip across the stunning South Island of New Zealand that has attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers from across the globe. The film charts Apolla's journey from the breathtaking Kaikoura coastline, south to the Catlins and west to the wild and remote Jackson Bay. Apolla even chances upon a freshwater break at the mouth of the Buller River - a rare event that only occurs a dozen times a year. In the freezing New Zealand winter, A...
Argentina, the last country in my 6 months long trip to South America, we have finally come to an end. Argentina is one of the biggest country in South America and it would take more than a month to see them all. This is what a month of traveling looks like in Argentina. Buenos Aires was a great vibrant city! Bariloche is definitely the Switzerland of Argentina! Patagonia? Love everything about it, especially El Chalten and seeing Fitz Roy has always been my life goals. Ushuaia is cold but beautiful. To think that I was so near to Antarctica, and yet only 5000 USD away from going there. Maybe next time! Last but not least Iguazu Falls. There's waterfalls and then there's Iguazu Falls. Damn, this place blows my mind. I thought I have seen enough waterfalls in my life time but Iguazu was s...

Have you ever wondered why you have been sunburnt on a cloudy day? Harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays can still penetrate the earth's atmosphere. To help understand why you can still get burnt in these (and other) situations, we've produced a short video on why UV levels vary. Produced by Clinuvel http://www.clinuvel.com The total dose of UV radiation reaching the earth's surface, and hence the potential damage to human skin and tissues, varies, depending on many factors. The sun's elevation in the sky depends on the time of the day and year. The shorter the distance that photons of UV radiation need to travel though the earth's atmosphere, the greater the intensity of UV on earth. The altitude of a location also effects UV radiation levels, as the higher a location is above sea level, the sh...
