A quick-thinking police officer who saved the life of a choking baby in Melbourne's west has described it as the highlight of his almost two decade long career.
The distressed parents of a four-week-old boy who had stopped breathing flagged down Sergeant Christopher White and Constable Alice Campbell as they were patrolling the suburb of Deer Park about 9.30pm on Tuesday evening.

First time parents have been reunited with two police officers who helped to save their one month old baby son.
Sergeant White said he realised something was wrong when the father became frantic and yelled out to the officers for help.
The father, carrying the baby who had turned blue in his arms, got into the police car which then headed to the Western General Hospital.

While driving to the hospital, Sergeant White instructed the father on how to carry out CPR and Constable Campbell maintained the child's airway.
As the police car pulled up to the ambulance entry, the boy began breathing and was rushed inside.

The baby is now back to full health.
Sergeant White and Constable Campbell met the family on Thursday in an emotional reunion.
"This result is the highlight of my 18 year career," Sergeant White said.
"This is why I joined Victoria Police, such a beautiful family and a great outcome."
Constable Campbell said the incident had reiterated to her why she joined the police force.
"It was great outcome for everyone and a real eye opener," Ms Campbell said.
