Europe closes down.
Not only with regard to flight, migration and refugees, the current atmosphere in Europe is characterized by political and intellectual bigotry and self-imposed isolation.
Hence, „the European Union will either be democratised or it will disintegrate“, to quote the recurring theme of the Democracy in Europe Movement (DiEM25), recently founded by former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis and numerous European politicians, intellectuals and activists. DiEM25 rejects the scandalous treatment of refugees in all European countries, the wide-spread strengthening of new and old nationalism, and the neo-ordo-liberal economic policies, for which there supposedly is no alternative. Instead, DiEM25 promotes the vision of a different Europe: a Europe that defends democracy, justice and human rights, a Europe that puts the needs of the people over the wishes of banks and corporations, and a Europe that is fully aware of the EU’s great historical achievement of bringing peace to a continent that had been haunted by war and destruction for centuries.

Born in Rome in 1976. Lived, studied and worked in the Italian capital until the age of twenty-six. I soon put my love of politics into practice by joining The Democrats of the Left at a very early age. I served as Eur-Laurentino branch secretary and as a DS board member in Rome. Issy-les-Moulineaux Branch Secretary, Federal Communication Secretary, and Member of the PS 92 Federal Office and Council (Socialist party). I was a staff member for the socialist Senator-Mayor of Clamart, in Paris’s inner suburbs. As a PS City Councillor (until March of 2015) I worked in the areas of culture, architecture, and the environment, as well as the city budget.

I am an economist and I have co-founded Attac on 2000. The topic Attac deals with vary: agricultural and trade policies, food sovereignty, financial, tax justice and the various facets of the euro crisis. Since 2010, I co-ordinate the Alliance “Ways out of the crisis“. Since 2014, the Stop TTIP campaign is one of my main concerns. We have helped in building a broad alliance actively in Austria and at a European level, the TTIP negotiations were not completed in 2015 as planned and the resistance grows. I am convinced that we can stop TTIP, CETA and TiSA! In addition to the criticism of TTIP & Co. we broach increasingly the need for fundamental reorganization of the economy and society – of food sovereignty through glocalization to energy democracy and alternative trade mandate. The interest in these alternatives is growing; preparations for the 2nd “Good Life for All“ Congress (2017) are already underway.

Born in the Netherlands, she grew up in Argentina and Italy, studied in France, was raised in five languages, and began her professional life in the United States. She is the author of eight books and the editor or co-editor of three books. Together, her authored books are translated in over twenty languages. She has received many awards and honors, among them multiple doctor honoris causa, the 2013 Principe de Asturias Prize in the Social Sciences, election to the Royal Academy of the Sciences of the Netherlands, and made a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres by the French government.

WERK X
WERK X is a newly founded theater in Vienna that works to show the most exciting and innovative work in progressive theatre and performative arts to the Vienna audience. It has been established in 2014 after the former GARAGE X and the former sociocultural “Stadtlabor Kabelwerk” had been converged to the new theatre.
WERK X aims at providing a space for engaged artistic work beyond the repertoire of the state theatres.
