Portrush (from Irish: Port Rois, meaning "promontory port") is a small seaside resort town in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, on the County Londonderry border. The main part of the old town, including the railway station as well as most hotels, restaurants and bars, is built on a mile–long peninsula, Ramore Head, pointing north-northwest. It had a population of 6,372 people as measured by the 2001 Census. In the off-season, Portrush is a dormitory town for the nearby campus of the University of Ulster at Coleraine. It neighbours the resort of Portstewart.
The town is well known for its three sandy beaches, the West Strand, East Strand and White Rocks, as well as the Royal Portrush Golf Club, the only golf club outside of mainland Great Britain which has hosted the Open Championship.
It was the base for the Katie Hannan (this life boat was damaged in 2008, after running aground during a rescue at Rathlin Island, Now based as a training boat for the RNLI), a Severn class lifeboat and Ken and Mary, a D–class inshore lifeboat of the RNLI. Lifeboats have operated out of Portrush Harbour since 1860.
Northern Ireland (Irish: Tuaisceart Éireann [ˈt̪ˠuəʃcəɾˠt̪ˠ ˈeːɾʲən̪ˠ]; Ulster Scots: Norlin Airlann) is a constituent unit of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the northeast of the island of Ireland. It is variously described as a country, province, region, or "part" of the United Kingdom, amongst other terms. Northern Ireland shares a border to the south and west with the Republic of Ireland. In 2011, its population was 1,810,863, constituting about 30% of the island's total population and about 3% of the UK's population. Established by the Northern Ireland Act 1998 as part of the Good Friday Agreement, the Northern Ireland Assembly holds responsibility for a range of devolved policy matters, while other areas are reserved for the British government. Northern Ireland co-operates with the Republic of Ireland in some areas, and the Agreement granted the Republic the ability to "put forward views and proposals" with "determined efforts to resolve disagreements between the two governments".
The points of the compass are points on a compass, specifically on the compass rose, marking divisions of the four cardinal directions: North, South, East, West. The number of points may be only the 4 cardinal points, or the 8 principal points adding the intercardinal (or ordinal) directions northeast (NE), southeast (SE), southwest (SW), and northwest (NW). In meteorological usage further intermediate points are added to give the sixteen points of a wind compass. Finally, at the most complete in European tradition, are found the full thirty-two points of the mariner's compass. In ancient China 24 points of the compass were used.
In the mariner's exercise of boxing the compass, all thirty-two points of the compass are named in clockwise order. The names of intermediate points are formed by the initials of the cardinal directions and their intermediate ordinal directions, and are very handy to refer to a heading (or course or azimuth) in a general or colloquial fashion, without having to resort to computing or recalling degrees. For most applications, the minor points have been superseded by degrees measured clockwise from North.
The North West 200 is a motorcycle race meeting held each May in Northern Ireland. The course is a street circuit, made up of public roads running between the towns of Portstewart, Coleraine and Portrush (the Triangle) is one of the fastest in the world, with speeds in excess of 200 mph (320 km/h). In practice for the 2012 event Martin Jessopp was clocked at 208 mph (335 km/h). It is one of around fifteen events run on public roads between April and October throughout the island of Ireland. It is the largest annual sporting event in Ireland, with the race weekend attracting over 150,000 visitors from all over the world.
Originally intended to be held somewhere in the north west of Ireland and organised by the City of Derry & District Motor Club, the initial event was moved to the north coast but the name was never changed. Since 1964 the event has been organised by the Coleraine and District Motor Club. In 2010 the meeting featured daytime practice on the Thursday for the first time.

This is a short edit from Sunday 2 December 2012, filmed at Whiterocks and West Strand in Portrush on the north coast of Ireland. I was out testing a few things on a reccie shoot for an up and coming edit that I am working on so I put this edit together so that the footage didn't go to waste. music by the Cat Empire : www.thecatempire.com
Filmed and Edited by Niall Savage. niallsavage@hotmail.com Shot over two evenings in October. A mix of 60fps and normal speed footage on Sony EX1. Track: Getting Nowhere by Magnetic Man feat. John Legend.
Another test video on Vimeo! I've been trying to figure out how to get slow motion out of my Canon XH-A1. What i have done in this video is shoot in 50i (pal), 60i for ntsc at at least 120th shutter speed. The footage has been brought into After Effects and conformed to 25fps (pal) by right clicking on the imported footage file and selecting interpret footage/MAIN. Drop the footage into the timeline and time stretch by 200%. Switch off all the frame/motion blending in the render settings and your good to go. The footage is pure raw off my xha1 with sgpro 35mm adapter using 50mm and 28mm lenses apart from the slow motion and a couple of post zoom effects
A Wee beach shoot to test and see what it will look like video was just for Fun
I got lucky with this one. It was raining down really heavily on the morning of this shoot but the skies cleared in the evening making for perfect shooting conditions. The area is the North Coast of Northern Ireland around the towns of Ballintoy and Portrush. I used my Canon XH-A1 with SGPRO adapter and 28, 50, and 135mm Canon FD lenses.
