Larkhall (Scots: Larkhauch,Scottish Gaelic: Taigh na h-Uiseig) is a town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland and is around 14 miles (23 km) southeast of Glasgow. It is twinned with Seclin in northern France.
Larkhall sits on high ground between the River Clyde to the East and the Avon Water to the West. Larkhall sits on the edge of the scenic Clyde valley and is a commuter town for Glasgow. Larkhall had a population of 14,951 in the 2011 census, and is a typical west of Scotland industrial town. Traditionally a mining, weaving and textile area, most of Larkhall's traditional industries have now shut, including the Lanarkshire iron and steel works.
The name Larkhall or Laverock 'Ha first appears in journals around 1620. The origins of the name are unknown, although Laverock is the Scots word for skylark. However, there is no evidence that the town is named after the bird. It is more likely that Laverock was a surname. The name for Larkhall was originally a Scots word Laverockhaugh (Laverockha), which meant laverock - skylark and haugh - boggy/wet area.
In 2014 Community Links (South Lanarkshire) conducted an oral history project in Larkhall as part of a challenging sectarianism project funded by Scottish Government. 15 long term Larkhall residents were interviewed about their past lives focusing on themes of schooling, work/industry, religion, recreation, family and community in the period between 1945 - 1990. The oral history interviews produced over 18 hours of audio recordings from local people. Working with a professional film editor, Community Links selected quotes from the audio recordings and then matched these to period images from film libraries above and produced a short film focusing on themes of childhood, youth and schooling. This short film was initially shown in Larkhall Library in early 2015 as part of an exhibition...

Along the way we will be calling at Clydebank, Yoker, Garscadden, Scotstounhill, Jordanhill, Hyndland, Partick, Exhibition Centre, Anderston, Glasgow Central, Argyle Street, Rutherglen, Cambuslang, Newton, Blantyre, Hamilton West, Hamilton Central, Chatelherault, Merryton and Larkhall. Apologies for the lag experienced in the first part of this video. It does improve after a short time. Also, apologies for getting the train the wrong way around so the driver was at the back rather than the front. I didn't notice until half way through recording! You can find the North Clyde extension to...

Evidence of just how high this water can rise when in spate. The new "Salmon Ladders" will stand no chance. But Trout have always made it up this water, including Millheugh Falls/Dam with NO problems and if they can do it so can Salmon. I love this water and its beautiful surroundings, hence why i feel so strongly about groups/people damaging it. Please bare in mind, this area is a protected and conservation area. Site of Special Scientific Interest {{ SSSI }} also a European Special Area for Conservation {{ SAC }} We are so lucky to have this. So please treat with respect and kindness, take your rubbish and empty juice/alcohol/water bottles and cans out of the Glen. Take some pride in our Braes and show visitors just how proud we are of them.
only an excuse

http://joolzguides.com In this London Guide Joolz Guides goes to Smithfield Market where William Wallace was executed and wife selling used to happen! Smithfield wife selling wasn't strictly legal but it was quite a common practice. In Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge the protagonist sells his wife at the beginning of the book. William Wallace was dragged here from London Bridge before being hung drawn and quartered and it's also the famous venue of the peasant's revolt, where Watt Tyler was famously killed.
