The house
A 1960s two-level home built into a rock face in Sydney's eastern suburbs.
Who lives here
Brow artist Sharon Lee Hamilton and son Cody, 10.
What we did
"It had lots of natural light, which I loved, but there was so much glass it was like living in a fishbowl, so I hung sheer silk curtains. Everything was painted white and needed warming up, so I put seagrass wallpaper in the bedroom and installed wooden cabinetry, because there was very little storage. I also had big, comfy cushions made for the sofas. I work hard, and when I come home I want to be able to relax."
Favourite room
"The living room," says Sharon Lee. "The open-plan living/dining/kitchen area is very private and is cocooned by the rock face behind. I cook a lot and Cody and I can interact while he is watching TV. It's where we spend the most time."
The 'hood'
"There are only five houses in this cul-desac. There's a dog park 200 metres away and Cody's school and my salon are only four minutes away."
Future plans
"I want to put a pizza oven near the pool."
Best advice
"When it comes to renovations, like attracts like. So find a good builder because he will use good tradesmen."
