That's it for me - one of, if not the best week in the history of Australian combat sports with Jeff Horn last week and Whittaker today.

You can read our first Whittaker take here, and we'll have more from the press conference shortly.

Whittaker revealed after the fight that he had an existing knee injury, which was aggrevated by a kick from Romero in the early exchanges - but he fought through it and came out on top. What a performance.

Unbelievable. We will have a Bisping v Whittaker bout to unify the belts at some point in the future - the Englishman stormed into the ring at the fight's conclusion, calling the Aussie a 'motherf---er' amongst other things.

WHITTAKER WINS!!

48-47 across the board!!!!

And now we wait for the judges. The only way Whittaker hasn't won this is if the second was scored a 10-8 round. Romero was dominant, but not THAT dominant...

We've gone the distance!!!

Romero barely holds on, but Whittaker has done enough. This is surely, SURELY 48-47 to the Australian.

Romero goes for a big hook, Whittaker ducks underneath - then the Cuban slips and the Aussie takes control! They're on the mat with just over a minute to go!

Three minutes to go as Whittaker evades a takedown attempt. Both men have given this everything!

I have 38-38 so far, as does most of my social media feed - huge five minutes here, the biggest in the history of Australian MMA.

Big shot from Bobby Knuckles!!!

He has the Cuban on the ropes, who is saved by the round ending. Absolutely Whittaker's round. Five minutes from history, folks.

Whittaker just misses with a left uppercut - jeez if that had caught him, that was goodnight. Great countering from Rob since being wrestled to the mat in the early exchanges of the round and he's fought back really well to probably take this one as well.

Excellent takedown defence from Whittaker as Romero grabs him following a kick from the Aussie, but can't wrestle him into a controlling position. The Cuban going back to what worked in the second round and Whittaker needs to get out of this ASAP.

That's Whittaker's round!

Much, much better from the Aussie. No grappling to speak of, just striking and given the closeness of the first round, it's absolutely 29-28 to someone right now. Just not sure who.

Great third so far for Whittaker. He's got the Cuban trading strikes with him rather than it turning into a wrestling match as it did in the second. This has been three minutes of pure striking so far and the Aussie has had the better of it.

Big front kick from Whittaker and then a left, right - he's all over him for a few seconds as Romero is down to his knees temporarily. Very positive start to the third for The Reaper.

Two rounds down, three to go!

More wrestling in the corner as time expires. Another round is Romero's and Whittaker has it all to do - although I could be wrong, as I often am.

They're back on their feet now, great work from Whittaker but Romero still has control - they stand against the side of the cage before finally, the Aussie spins back around and manages to break out of his opponent's grasp.
