Body of missing Melbourne woman's boyfriend found

Sophie Dowsley and her Canadian boyfriend Gregory Tiffin set off for a day hike to a dangerous Canadian waterfall on July 8.

Search crews told CTV Vancouver News that Mr Tiffin's body had been retrieved from the waters of Statlu Falls by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police dive team.

His body was found on July 18. It is believed Mr Tiffin fell into the falls.

The search for Ms Dowsley will resume on Thursday morning (Canadian time), and the Canadian police  will be supported by search and rescue crews.

The police began their search on July 12 after the couple, who live in Vancouver, were reported missing.

On Wednesday the couple's black SUV was found near Statlu Lake, about 75 kilometres north-west of Harrison Hot Springs.

Ms Dowsley's sunglasses were found near the waterfall, as were some of Mr Tiffin's personal belongings.

"All search resources remain engaged as we continue to look for the missing woman," Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesman Corporal Mike Rail told Fairfax Media.

"RCMP remain in close contact with the victim's and missing woman's families."

The tragic news comes as Ms Dowsley's family have flown to Canada to help with the search.

Her father Peter Dowsley told CTV Vancouver News that the family were living a nightmare.

"They've gone to a very dangerous place and they haven't come out," he said. "It's the worst possible nightmare you can imagine."

Kent Harrison Search and Rescue's Neil Brewer told CBC News British Columbia the waterfall had a history of fatalities.

"It's not an easy place to get into," he said.

"And I can't emphasise this enough: it has some extremely dangerous spots, with a very dramatic and very dangerous waterfall that exits from Statlu Lake."

Mr Brewer said he knows of three fatalities that have happened on this same area of rock.
