Maigret Bibliography

"I now prefer Claret to Burgundy and I prefer Inspector Maigret to Arsene Lupin". (T.S. Eliot's response to the question "the two most important changes in his life?", in The Fiftieth Anniversary Report of the Harvard Class of 1910.)

Main list

The 75 novels and 28 stories (total=103) are listed together in this bibliography; novels in red, stories in green. They are listed in the order in which they were written, using the numbering of Jean Forest's Les Archives Maigret (1994), grouped under the original French title, and arranged alphabetically within the year. (The four "precursors of Maigret" novels are not included in this list.)
The French title shown is that of the first edition, based on Trudee Young's "George Simenon: A Checklist of his 'Maigret' and other mystery novels..." (Scarecrow Press, 1976). The [bracketed T-number] is the number under which the book is first listed in her bibliography.

Title Index (French & Engish)

The title index combines both French and English titles, the French shown italicized. English titles are alphabetized ignoring initial "The" and "A,"; French titles are alphabetized ignoring initial "L'", "La", "Le", and "Les".
Collection titles in the index are bracketed (and don't link), and the Maigrets they contain are shown below them, linkable to the main list. Short stories in the index list are followed by (ss).
