Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is a metropolitan area consisting of the metropolis of Mumbai and its satellite towns in Maharashtra. Developing over a period of about 20 years, it consists of seven municipal corporations and fifteen smaller municipal councils. The entire area is overseen by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), a Maharashtra State Government organisation in charge of town planning, development, transportation and housing in the region. The MMRDA was formed to address the challenges in planning and development of integrated infrastructure for the metropolitan region. The areas outside of Brihan Mumbai (Greater Mumbai) and Navi Mumbai have lacked organised development. Navi Mumbai, developed as one of the largest planned cities in the world, was promoted by a Maharashtra Government-owned company, City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO). The region has had problems related to haphazard and illegal development as a result of rapid urbanisation. Villages along the NH3 in Bhiwandi Taluka are examples of haphazard developments in the MMR, with some of the largest warehousing areas in India. Government agencies such as the Town Planner and Collector of Thane have had challenges in addressing unorganised development.
Devendra Fadnavis (Marathi: देवेंद्र फडणवीस, born 22 July 1970) is the 18th and current Chief Minister of Maharashtra state in India. A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the RSS, Fadnavis represents the Nagpur South West constituency in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. At the age of 44, he became the second youngest Chief Minister of Maharashtra, following Sharad Pawar who at the age of 38 became youngest Chief Minister. He also served as president of the Maharashtra state unit of the BJP, now succeeded by Raosaheb Dadarao Danve
Fadnavis was born in Nagpur into a Marathi Brahmin family with strong links to the RSS and BJP/Jana Sangh. Devendra's mother, Sarita Fadnavis, is a home-maker and a former director of Vidarbha Housing Credit Society. Fadnavis was only seventeen years of age when his father died of cancer in 1987. Gangadhar Rao had been a two-time member of Maharashtra Legislative Council from Nagpur (first with Jan Sangh, later Janata Party, and then with BJP).

The seven islands that came to constitute Mumbai were home to communities of fishing colonies. For centuries, the islands were under the control of successive indigenous empires before being ceded to the Portuguese and subsequently to the British East India Company when in 1661 King Charles II married the Portuguese Catherine of Braganza, and as part of her dowry Charles received the ports of Tangier and seven islands of Bombay. During the mid-18th century, Bombay was reshaped by the Hornby Vellard project, which undertook reclamation of the area between the seven islands from the sea. Along with construction of major roads and railways, the reclamation project, completed in 1845, transformed Bombay into a major seaport on the Arabian Sea. Bombay in the 19th century was characterized by economic and educational development. During the early 20th century it became a strong base for the Indian independence movement. Upon India's independence in 1947 the city was incorporated into Bombay State. In 1960, following the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, a new state of Maharashtra was created with Bombay as the capital.

In sleepy hamlets, fishing villages and traditional gaothans in Bhayander and Vasai-Virar on the outskirts of Mumbai, a wave of resentment is spreading among local residents. The trigger for the resentment is the draft regional plan issued by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which envisages urbanisation in no-development zones, hazardous industries in green zone belts and multi-storey buildings around traditional gaothan villages. The total investment is a whopping Rs 1.14 lakh crore for road, rail and infrastructure projects over the next two decades. Mumbai Marine Drive Marine Drive is a 3.5-kilometre-long boulevard in South Mumbai in the city of Mumbai. It is a 'C'-shaped six-lane concrete road along the coast, which is a natural bay. The road links Nariman Point to Babulnath and Malabar Hill. Marine Drive is situated over reclaimed land facing west-south-west. A promenade lies parallel to this road. Marine Drive is also known as the Queen's Necklace because, if viewed at night from an elevated point anywhere along the drive, the street lights resemble a string of pearls in a necklace. Mademoiselle remembers too well
How once she was belle of the ball
Now the past she sadly recalls.
Mademoiselle lived in grand hotels
Ordered clothes by Chanel and Dior
Millionaires queued at her door.
Oh, she pleased them and teased them
She hooked them and squeezed them
Until like their empires they'd fall
She very soon learned
That the more love she spurned
The more power she yearned
Until she was belle of the ball.
Oh, Mademoiselle, such a soft machiavel
Would play bagatelle with the hearts of young men as
they fell
Mademoiselle would hide in her shell
Could then turn cast a spell on any girl
That got in her way.
She would crave all attention
Men would flock to her side
Woe betide any man who ignored
For she'd feign such affection
Then break down their pretension
When she'd won she would turn away.
Turn away, thoroughly bored.
Mademoiselle, long ago said farewell
To any love left to sell, for the sake of being belle
of the ball
Mademoiselle knows there's no way to quell
Her own private hell, just a shell,
With no heart left at all.
Poor old Mademoiselle.
