The Iraqi people (Arabic: العراقيون ʿIrāqīyūn, Kurdish: گهلی عیراق Îraqîyan, Aramaic: ܥܡܐ ܥܝܪܩܝܐ ʿIrāqāyā, Turkish: Iraklılar) are the citizens of the modern country of Iraq.
Arabs have been the majority in Mesopotamia since the Sassanid Empire (224-637 AD).Arabic was spoken by the majority in the Iraqi Kingdom of Araba in the 1st and 2nd centuries, and by Arabs in Al-Hirah from the 3rd century.Arabs were common in Mesopotamia at the time of the Seleucids (3rd century BC). The first Arab kingdom outside of Arabia was established in Iraq's Al-Hirah in the 3rd century. Arabic was a minority language in northern Iraq in the 8th century BC, from the 8th century following the Muslim conquest of Persia it became the dominant language of Iraqi Muslims, due to Arabic being the language of the Qur'an and the Caliphate.
Kurdish Iraqi citizens live in the mountainous Zagros region of northeast Iraq to the east of the upper Tigris. Modern genetic studies indicate that Iraqi Arabs and Kurds are distantly related. Arabic and Kurdish are Iraq's national languages.

In 2014, Islamic State militants swept into Western Iraq's Anbar Province, overrunning Iraqi security forces, enslaving minorities, and causing thousands to flee for their lives. The jihadist group captured Iraq’s largest city, Mosul, and the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah, where hundreds of US troops died fighting the Islamic State’s predecessor. Now, two years later, the Iraqi security forces, with help from Iranian-supported Shiite militias and US military advisors and warplanes, are fighting to take back towns and cities in Anbar, one battle at a time. But it’s a difficult task: Anbar has been the crucible of Iraq’s insurgency, and is the country’s Sunni heartland — long marginalized by and hostile to the Shiite-led government in Baghdad. VICE News embedded with Iraq’s Golden Di...

Over the past decade, tens of thousands of Iraqis have fled their country to resettle in Sweden. Iraqi-born Swedes are today one of the largest ethnic minority groups living in Sweden. In 2007, Swedish immigration authorities ruled there was no longer an armed conflict in Iraq and that it was therefore acceptable to send Iraqi citizens back to their country. A number of Iraqi refugees were deported amid protests, criticism from human rights groups and concern expressed by the United Nations. This film tells the story of Iraqi immigrants in Sweden, highlighting issues of integration, multiculturalism as well as an emerging right-wing backlash against immigration.

If someone saved your life during a war, would you go back into a danger zone many years later to help that man? Do you still keep my pictures in your frame?
Cause I still shut down with the sound of your name.
Do you still wanna talk to me like you used to?
Cause I could understand if you don't
I Wont... Call unless you call me first
Do you still keep my letters in your drawer
Cause I still have yours but I don't read them anymore
Do you still wanna kiss me like you used to
Cause I could understand if you don't
Do you still hold me close to your heart
Cause I still need you even though we are apart
Do you still wanna hole me like you used to?
