Sheffield can be proud of the hundreds of activities that make up Sheffield Environment Weeks, which has run for many years. They range from talks on a range of subjects, to projects like urban agriculture and wildlife conservation. In 2016 it won the category ´Small Group, Big Impact´ in the Sheffield ´Make a Difference´ Awards. If you want to volunteer see the timetable on the website.

Eyre Street Café, 121 Eyre St. S1 4QW
A reminder that Foodhall Café offers food that would have been thrown away, surplus donated by retailers, on a "Pay-as-you-feel" basis. It is run by volunteers and encourages community engagement between the general public including students, homeless people, mental health groups, isolated people, people with addiction problems and people who need to access food.
You can help, whether by just visiting to eat and socialise, or maybe food preparation, or even playing the house piano.
The cafe opens Thursdays to Saturdays, there are also art workshops and reading groups, and some nights it becomes a DIY venue for fundraiser gigs.

A reminder that the The Real Junk Food Project has various excellent volunteer-run projects, using food which would otherwise go to waste. The following operate on the basis of pay-as-you-feel:
Steeple Corner Café (Victoria Centre, 37 Stafford Rd., Norfolk Park S2 2SE) open 4 days a week and free wi-fi!
Citrus Café (New from 10th July 2017, at Zest Centre, 18 Upperthorpe, S6 3NA) open 6 days a week.
Shareouse Market (49 Carlisle Street, S4 7LJ) open Tuesday–Saturday 12-2pm as a pay-as-you-feel store.
They also run Fuel For School, an educational programme helping primary schools to take direct environmental action and make a positive change in the local community, and they run catering for conferences, parties, weddings and events from 5 – 350 people, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.

This commercially sponsored music festival in the centre of Sheffield gets more popular every time. The lineup of music is massive, with 73 acts this year. The programme of bands in surrounding pubs and venues includes some free entry.

MOBO award-winning hip hop artist, writer, poet and educator Akala returns to Sheffield to tell the history of hip hop. Akala provides a passionate overview of the oral traditions, musical, cultural and political movements that have contributed to the evolution of MCing so far. Followed by an open Q & A (questions and answers session) facilitated by Hassun El Zafar.

For some people, a housing crisis means not getting planning permission for a loft conversion. For others it means, quite simply, losing their home. "Dispossession: The Great Social Housing Swindle" is a documentary directed by Paul Sng (Sleaford Mods – Invisible Britain) and narrated by Maxine Peake.
It explores the catastrophic failures that have led to a chronic shortage of social housing in Britain. The film focuses on the neglect, demolition and regeneration of council estates across the UK and investigates how the state works with the private sector to demolish council estates to build on the land they stand on, making properties that are unaffordable to the majority of people. Dispossession is the story of people fighting for their communities, of people who know the difference between a house and a home, and who believe that housing is a human right, not an expensive luxury.
After the screening there will be a Question & Answer session with Paul Sng (Director), Dr Lisa McKenzie (author of Getting By) and more.

Access Space opens its doors on Wednesdays for you to bring in broken items and they will help you to learn how to repair them. This includes computer/electrical stuff, even clothing, furniture, etc. Our current capitalist system produces inferior products designed to go wrong and need replacing, with the cost paid by us and the environment. #FightForYourRightToRepair is the new movement promoting the end to this ’built-in obsolence’ and unrepairable goods.
Access Space

Help stop a family becoming homeless. For years a Sheffield family have asked for repairs and have got nothing back except bullying and harassment from the landlord. Now they have been given 4 weeks notice to vacate, which will leave them on the street. Why? Because rather than fixing the place up for the family, the landlord wants to get richer tenants in. But when the landlord comes knocking on July 27th he’ll face the full force of ACORN and a mobilised community coming to the family’s defence. ACORN have done it in other towns, now it’s Sheffield’s turn. Not only will the action help stop a family from becoming homeless, it will send a message to rogue landlords in Sheffield that they have a union to contend with.

Hosted by ACORN Sheffield - Renters’ Union and anti-poverty organising. The system is rigged in the favour of the few with money and influence. We have to take action.
