The Kansai region (関西地方, Kansai-chihō) or the Kinki region (近畿地方, Kinki-chihō) lies in the southern-central region of Japan's main island Honshū. The region includes the prefectures of Mie, Nara, Wakayama, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyōgo, and Shiga. Depending on who makes the distinction, Fukui, Tokushima and even Tottori Prefecture are also included. While the use of the terms "Kansai" and "Kinki" have changed over history, in most modern contexts the use of the two terms is interchangeable. The urban region of Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto (Keihanshin region) is the second most populated in Japan after the Greater Tokyo Area.
The Kansai region is the cultural and historical heart of Japan with 11% of its land area and 22,757,897 residents as of 2010. The Osaka Plain with the cities of Osaka and Kyoto forms the core of the region, from there the Kansai area stretches west along the Seto Inland Sea towards Kobe and Himeji and east encompassing Lake Biwa, Japan's largest freshwater lake. In the north the region is bordered by the Sea of Japan, to the south by the Kii Peninsula and Pacific Ocean, and to the east by the Ibuki Mountains and Ise Bay. Four of Japan's national parks lie within its borders, in whole or in part. The area also contains six of the seven top prefectures in terms of national treasures. Other geographical features include Amanohashidate in Kyoto Prefecture and Awaji Island in Hyōgo.
National Geographic or NatGeo may refer to:
An international airport is an airport that offers customs and immigration facilities for passengers travelling between countries. International airports are typically larger than domestic airports and often feature longer runways and facilities to accommodate the heavier aircraft commonly used for international and intercontinental travel. International airports often also host domestic flights. Some, such as Frankfurt Airport in Germany are very large; others such as Fa'a'ā International Airport in Tahiti, are quite small.
Buildings, operations and management have become increasingly sophisticated since the mid 20th century, when international airports began to provide infrastructure for international civilian flights. Detailed technical standards have been developed to ensure safety and common coding systems implemented to provide global consistency. The physical structures that serve millions of individual passengers and flights are among the most complex and interconnected in the world. By the second decade of the 21st century, there were over 1,200 international airports and almost two billion international passengers along with 50 million metric tonnes of cargo were passing through them annually.
Kansai International Airport (関西国際空港, Kansai Kokusai Kūkō) (IATA: KIX, ICAO: RJBB) is an international airport located on an artificial island in the middle of Osaka Bay, 38 km (24 mi) southwest of Ōsaka Station, located within three municipalities, including Izumisano (north),Sennan (south), and Tajiri (central), in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. The airport is off the Honshu shore and was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano. The airport serves as an international hub for All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, and Nippon Cargo Airlines, and also serves as a hub for Peach, the first international low-cost carrier in Japan.
It is colloquially known as Kankū (関空) in Japanese.
Kansai opened 4 September 1994 to relieve overcrowding at Osaka International Airport, which is closer to the city of Osaka and now handles only domestic flights. During the 2006 fiscal year, KIX had 116,475 aircraft movements, of which 73,860 were international (31 countries, 71 cities), and 42,615 were domestic (19 cities). The total number of passengers was 16,689,658 of which 11,229,444 were international, and 5,460,214 were domestic, sixth in Japan and second in Osaka area. However, in 2009, airport traffic has fallen by almost 20% in just two years to 13.4 million. In 2010 airport traffic had risen to over 14 million, with international passengers accounting for approximately 10.4 million and domestic passengers accounting for approximately 3.7 million. Freight volume was at 802,162 tonnes total, of which 757,414 t were international (18th in the world), and 44,748 t were domestic. The 4,000 m × 60 m (13,123 ft × 197 ft) second runway was opened on 2 August 2007. As of June 2014, Kansai Airport has become an Asian hub, with 780 weekly flights to Asia and Australasia (including freight 119), 59 weekly flights to Europe and the Middle East (freight 5), and 80 weekly flights to North America (freight 42).
The Kansai dialect (関西弁, 関西方言, Kansai-ben, Kansai hōgen) is a group of Japanese dialects in the Kansai region (Kinki region) of Japan. In Japanese, Kansai-ben is the common name and it is called Kinki dialect (近畿方言, Kinki hōgen) in technical terms. Dialects of Kyoto and Osaka, especially in Edo period, are also called Kamigata dialect (上方言葉, 上方語, Kamigata kotoba, Kamigata-go). Kansai dialect is typified by the speech of Osaka, the major city of Kansai, which is referred to specifically as Osaka-ben. It is characterized as being both more melodic and harsher by speakers of the standard language.Anime characters who speak with Kansai dialects include Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga, Heiji Hattori, Spain, Kero-chan, Mitsune Konno, Shizuru, Kyousuke Kawachi, Aizawa Sakuya, Naru Osaka, Nicholas D. Wolfwood, the cast of Lovely Complex, Gin Ichimaru, and Naruko Shoukichi. Oddly, none of the characters in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya speak with Kansai dialects despite being set in Nishinomiya.
Follow me on Twitter @kyletwentytwo This is a video my brother made during two weeks he spent with me in Osaka (and throughout Kansai), Japan. Much of the filming was done in Osaka, Higashi Osaka, at Todaiji Temple in Nara, in Kyoto, on Shosha Mountain in Hyogo (famous for "The Last Samurai" filming), and on Kintetsu trains! For those of you interested in Japan, I hope you enjoy this - I think my brother did an awesome job making it.

My take on the wonderful and wacky world of the Kansai region of Japan. I wanted to capture the frenetic pace, colorful surroundings of Osaka & contrast that with the calm, serene nature of Kyoto and see if I could marry the two different worlds together into one video. A big thank you to my family for waiting patiently for me when I wanted to get a shot. Grabbed some shots of Kyoto and Osaka with the G6 while I was there this August. The daytime shots are with the kit lens, which actually seems OK, and has good stabilisation. Once the light fades, the 20mm 1.7 comes out, still one of my favourite lenses. Music: Acres All Above by Keith Kenniff https://soundcloud.com/keithkenniff/keith-kenniff-acres-all-above

7D6N in Japan exploring the Kansai region during autumn 2016. It's been amazing, experiencing the Kansai region filled with great blend of culture and time, getting lost wandering the streets, serviced with a warm smile, and indescribable taste of pure Japanese food. It's a great experience to be in a city that is decades ahead of ours, that children can run freely on streets without worry, and the people express their gratitude over a simple thing you did. And I would love to revisit Kansai, because there's just too much yet to explore, and to dive deeper into what Japan has to offer. Thank you, and till we meet again. Japan travel guide to what to do and eat in Miyajima, Hiroshima in a day! Hiroshima is near the bottom of the main island Honshu and a must visit when coming to Hiroshima is the island Itsukushima, more popularly known as Miyajima. It’s one of Japan’s top 3 scenic sights, most famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water. Miyajima island is also a great place for a day trip from the Kansai region like Kyoto and Osaka but I would recommend staying in Hiroshima for a few days to explore Hiroshima city and another day for Miyajima island. I started my trip off at Hiroshima station and took a 25 minute train ride to JR Miyajima-guchi station. From there it’s less than a 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal where you will take a 10 minute ferry ride to go t...
When I came back from San Diego
Checkered lights and rain in the afternoon
Oh, made me miss the imagination I used to have
There's something else
I thought about
The universe
When it's merciful
How should I know
After wringing out my memory
And all that my hands send away
Oh, riffling for a stem to find an answer I knew
There's something else
I thought about
The universe
When it's merciful
Oh, what
What's my blood for?
What shows my dear?
The universe
When it's merciful
Who's light did it come in on?
There's something else
I thought about
The universe
