The Internet Archive is a San Francisco-based nonprofit digital library with the stated mission of "universal access to all knowledge". It provides free public access to collections of digitized materials, including web sites, software applications/games, music, movies/videos, moving images, and nearly three million public-domain books. As of May 2014, its collection topped 15 petabytes. In addition to its archiving function, the Archive is an activist organization, advocating for a free and open Internet.
The Internet Archive allows the public to upload and download digital material to its data cluster, but the bulk of its data is collected automatically by its web crawlers, which work to preserve as much of the public web as possible. Its web archive, The Wayback Machine, contains over 150 billion web captures. The Archive also oversees one of the world's largest book digitization projects.
The Internet is the global system of interconnected mainframe, personal, and wireless computer networks that use the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link billions of devices worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mail, Usenet newsgroups, telephony, and peer-to-peer networks for file sharing.
Although the Internet protocol suite has been used by academia and the military industrial complex since the early 1980s, rapid adoption of its use was driven by events of the late 1980s and 1990s such as more powerful and affordable computers, the advent of fiber optics, the popularization of HTTP and the Web browser, and a push towards opening the technology to commerce. Internet use grew rapidly in the West from the mid-1990s and from the late 1990s in the developing world. In the 20 years since 1995, Internet use has grown 100-times to reach over one third of the world population, leading to its services and technologies being incorporated into virtually every aspect of contemporary life. The impact of the Internet has been so immense that it has been referred to as the "8th continent".
An archive is an accumulation of historical records or the physical place they are located. Archives contain primary source documents that have accumulated over the course of an individual or organization's lifetime, and are kept to show the function of that person or organization. Professional archivists and historians generally understand archives to be records that have been naturally and necessarily generated as a product of regular legal, commercial, administrative or social activities. They have been metaphorically defined as "the secretions of an organism", and are distinguished from documents that have been consciously written or created to communicate a particular message to posterity.
In general, archives consist of records that have been selected for permanent or long-term preservation on grounds of their enduring cultural, historical, or evidentiary value. Archival records are normally unpublished and almost always unique, unlike books or magazines for which many identical copies exist. This means that archives are quite distinct from libraries with regard to their functions and organization, although archival collections can often be found within library buildings.

What’s online doesn’t necessarily last forever. Content on the Internet is revised and deleted all the time. Hyperlinks “rot,” and with them goes history, lost in space. With that in mind, Brewster Kahle set out to develop the Internet Archive, a digital library with the mission of preserving all the information on the World Wide Web, for all who wish to explore. Jeffrey Brown reports.
Have you ever wanted to get that file but its not there anymore :/ well "Archive.org" The Internet Archive had begun to archive and preserve the World Wide Web. The archived content wasn't available until 2001, when it developed the Wayback Machine. Simple to use and efficient for us. Go ahead and give it a try, it sure saved me a ton of time and headache when I was looking for important files. Go to archive.org/web and search for Kodi.tv/download and you will see how many times it has been snapped and crawled, hence giving us the choice to pick whichever kodi version we want and need :) As always, visit https://spartanpixel.net for more tips and help. Internet access is almost as essential as water, power and sewer access for RVers, some would even say it's more essential. Internet is an amenity that is vital in keeping in touch with loved ones, networking with new friends, travel routing, remote banking, entertainment and even running businesses while being mobile. This 24-minute video and our overview article (www.rvmobileinternet.com/overview - kept up to date) is a quick overview of the options. From cellular, public WiFi, satellite and signal enhancing. This is our current overview video, created in April 2016. Our book - The Mobile Internet Handbook - goes into much further detail on each of these options, as well as a whole lot more. The options for keeping online while RVing are substantially different than those available ...

Vintage Computer Festival East 9.1 April 4-6, 2014 Hosted at InfoAge Science History Center, 2201 Marconi Road, Wall Township, NJ 07719 The Internet Archive is a non-profit online library of historic web pages, audio, video, and other media, founded in 1996. Used by millions each day, the site has been the home of many aspects of culture and history. And now it is doing the same for software. Archivist Jason Scott, head of the software collection, walks us through some of the highlights of the collection, plans to provide expansion, and the use of the in-browser emulation system to bring instant access to history.
Cheery anecdotes and jollification before a very loving audience. (Starts with tail end of Mark Graham's introduction.) Includes contributions and song by Lauren Sarno, Ted's longtime dear friend and now wife. Full description of the show at blog.archive.org/2017/06/29/join-us-for-ted-nelsons-birthday-octothorp-80-and-still-sarp/ Unfortunately, the Archive's camera failed, so here's the audio with just a still picture (thanks to Fausten Brae for the picture). (This recording sometimes omits and shortens words-- sorry.) Full introductions by Jason Scott and Mark Graham, before the camera failed, will be at the Archive real soon now.
