Tonya Maxene Harding (born November 12, 1970) is an American former figure skating champion, a two-time Olympian, and a two-time Skate America Champion. In 1991, she won the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and placed second in the World Championships. Harding was the second woman, and the first American woman, to complete a triple Axel jump in competition. In 1994, she was banned for life from the U.S. Figure Skating Association and pled guilty to hindering the prosecution following the attack on fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan.
Harding was born in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of LaVona Fay Golden (b. 1940) and her fifth husband, Al Harding (1933–2009). Her father had health problems that sometimes left him unable to work. She claims that her mother physically abused her, a claim her mother admitted to when asked for a response by the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2009. She began skating at age three. She landed her first triple lutz at age 12. Her mother made many of her skating costumes.
Nancy Ann Kerrigan (born October 13, 1969) is an American former figure skater. She is the 1992 Olympic bronze medalist, 1993 US National Champion, 1994 Olympic silver medalist, and a two-time world medalist. She is also noted for her conflict on and off the ice with skating rival Tonya Harding.
Kerrigan was born in Woburn, Massachusetts, to Daniel Kerrigan (1939–2010) and Brenda M. (Schultz) Kerrigan (born 1939). Her ancestry includes English, Irish and German. She has stated: "There's very little Irish in me, just my name" . She began ice skating at age six at the local rink in her hometown of Stoneham, Massachusetts. Her two older brothers, Michael and Mark, played Hockey, however hockey was not considered an appropriate activity for girls, so she took up figure skating instead. She did not start private lessons until age eight and won her first figure skating medal at age nine.
The Kerrigan family was of modest means. Kerrigan's father, a welder, sometimes worked three jobs to fund her skating career; he also drove the ice resurfacer at the local rink in exchange for Nancy's lessons. Kerrigan was coached by Theresa Martin until she was 16, then began working with Evy and Mary Scotvold. after a brief period with Denise Morrissey. The Scotvolds remained her coaches through the rest of her competitive career.
Tonya (Ancient greek: Thoania, Θωανία; Ottoman Turkish: طﻮﻧﻴﻪ, romanized as Tonya) is a town and district of Trabzon Province in the Black Sea region of Turkey. The mayor is Osman Beşel (AKP).
Harding may refer to:
Figure skating is a sport and activity in which individuals, duos, or groups perform on figure skates on ice. It was the first winter sport included in the Olympics, in 1908. The four Olympic disciplines are men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Non-Olympic disciplines include synchronized skating and four skating. From intermediate through senior-level competition, skaters generally perform two programs (short and long) which, depending on the discipline, may include spins, jumps, moves in the field, lifts, throw jumps, death spirals, and other elements or moves.
The blade has a groove on the bottom creating two distinct edges — inside and outside. In figure skating, the skater should glide on one edge of the blade and not on both at the same time, which is referred to as a flat edge. During a spin, skaters use the "sweet spot" of the blade, which is the roundest portion of the blade, just behind the pick and near the middle of the blade. Skates used in single and pair skating have a set of large, jagged teeth called toe picks on the front of the blade. Toe picks are mainly used in the take-off for jumps. Ice dancing blades are an inch shorter in the rear and have smaller toe picks.

They have since used a successful Kickstarter to craft the hall into a curated collection of primary artifacts, videos, and art that recounts the careers of the two famous skaters, the scandal that catapulted them into the national spotlight, and how the media sculpted its narrative of the in...
